Dual circularly polarized broadside beam antenna based on metasurfaces
Design details of a Ku band metasurface (MTS) antenna with dual circularly polarized (CP) broadside radiation is shown in this work. By means of the surface impedance tensor modulation, synchronized propagation of two transversal magnetic (TM) and transverse electric (TE) surface waves (SWs) is ensured in the structure, which contribute to the radiation in broadside direction by the generation of a CP leaky wave. The structure is implemented by elliptical subwavelength metallic elements with a cross-shaped aperture in the center, printed on top of a thin substrate with high permittivity (AD1000 with a thickness of λ0/17). For the experimental validation, the MTS prototype has been excited employing an orthomode transducer composed by a metallic stepped septum inside an air-filled waveguide. Two orthogonal TE11 modes excited with ±90° phase shift in the feed couple with the TM and TE SWs supported by the MTS and generate RHCP or LHCP broadside beam. Experimental results are compared with the simulation predictions. Finally, conclusions are drawn
Automatic business process model extension to repair constraint violations
Consider an artifact-centric business process model, containing both a data model and a process model. When executing the process, it may happen that some of the data constraints from the data model are violated. Bearing this in mind, we propose an approach to automatically generate an extension to the original business process model that, when executed after a constraint violation, repairs the contents of the data leaving it in a new consistent state.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
Modes in silver-iodide-lined hollow metallic waveguides mapped by terahertz near-field time-domain microscopy
Thin dielectric layers inside hollow metallic waveguides are used to improve the waveguide transmission characteristics as the dominant waveguide mode changes into the hybrid HE11 mode. We investigate the effect of 1 μm thick silver iodide (AgI) coatings on the fundamental modes in cylindrical waveguides at terahertz (THz) frequencies, in the regime of the dielectric layer being thinner than the optimal thickness hopt(2 THz) ̃ 20 μm. In the region of 1-3.2 THz, the lowest-order modes are similar in profile to the TE11 and TM11 modes, as determined by the timeresolved near-field measurements and verified numerically. Higher-order modes are detected experimentally as mode mixtures due to the multimode propagation. Numerical electromagnetic modeling is applied to resolve the mode structure ambiguity, allowing us to correlate experimentally detected patterns with a superposition of the TM11 and the higher-order mode, TE12. Mode profiles determined here indicate that in the regime of ultrathin dielectric (h c 0.1γeff ), the dielectric layer does not transform the dominant mode into the low-loss HE11 mode. Experimental mode patterns similar to the HE11 and the TE01 modes nevertheless can be formed due to mode beating. The results indicate that the Ag/AgI waveguides can be used for guiding THz waves in the TE01 mode or the TE12 mode with high discrimination against other modes. © 2012 Optical Society of America
Practical update management in ontology-based data access
Ontology-based Data Access (OBDA) is gaining importance both scientifically and practically. However, little attention has been paid so far to the problem of updating OBDA systems. This is an essential issue if we want to be able to cope with modifications of data both at the ontology and at the source level, while maintaining the independence of the data sources. In this paper, we propose mechanisms to properly handle updates in this context. We show that updating data both at the ontology and source level is first-order rewritable. We also provide a practical implementation of such updating mechanisms based on non-recursive Datalog.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
Transformation Techniques for OCL Constraints
Constraints play a key role in the definition of conceptual schemas. In the UML, constraints are usually specified by means of invariants written in the OCL. However, due to the high expressiveness of the OCL, the designer has different syntactic alternatives to express each constraint. The techniques presented in this paper assist the designer during the definition of the constraints by means of generating equivalent alternatives for the initially defined ones. Moreover, in the context of the MDA, transformations between these different alternatives are required as part of the PIM-to-PIM, PIM-to-PSM or PIM-to-code transformations of the original conceptual schema. 1
Semantic-Based Mappings
Data translation consists of the task of moving data from a source database to a target database. This task is usually performed by developing mappings, i.e., executable transformations from the source to the target schema. However, it is often the case that a richer description of the target database semantics is available under the form of a con- ceptual schema. We investigate how the mapping process changes when such a rich conceptualization of the target database is available. As a major contribution, we develop a translation algorithm that automati- cally rewrites a mapping from the source database schema to the target conceptual schema into an equivalent mapping from the source schema to the underlying target database schema. Experiments show that our ap- proach scales nicely to complex conceptual schemas and large databases
Silicon integrated subharmonic mixer on a photonic-crystal platform
This paper presents a planar silicon integrated subharmonic mixer on top of a photonic-crystal platform. The local oscillator (LO) power is injected through a 2D photoniccrystal (PC) slab to a resonant cavity that effectively couples the signal to a planar bow-tie antenna. The same antenna, which is printed on the top of the PC cavity, contains an antiparallel Schottky diode pair which performs the down-conversion. The proposed design is a simple, easy to integrate, low cost, low profile device. Moreover, the described fabrication process is compatible with active components integration. The performance
of the design has been experimentally demonstrated showing good agreement with the simulation and is comparable with the stateof-the-art of planar mixers. The work presented here is based on concepts and technologies from electronics and photonics domains and may be a good starting point for the creation of new devices, allowing the integration and upgrading of existing techniques from both worlds. This work was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, TEC2016-76997-C3-1-R and PID2019-109984RB-C43
