Capture Velocity for a Magneto-Optical Trap in a Broad Range of Light Intensity

In a recent paper, we have used the dark-spot Zeeman tuned slowing technique [Phys. Rev. A 62, 013404-1, (2000)] to measure the capture velocity as a function of laser intensity for a sodium magneto optical trap. Due to technical limitation we explored only the low light intensity regime, from 0 to 27 mW/cm^2. Now we complement that work measuring the capture velocity in a broader range of light intensities (from 0 to 400 mW/cm^2). New features, observed in this range, are important to understant the escape velocity behavior, which has been intensively used in the interpretation of cold collisions. In particular, we show in this brief report that the capture velocity has a maximum as function of the trap laser intensity, which would imply a minimum in the trap loss rates.Comment: 2 pages, 2 figure

Improved sample preparation for GC-MS-SIM analysis of ethyl carbamate in wine.

AbstractAn improved sample preparation procedure for analysis of carcinogenic ethyl carbamate (EC) in wine by GC–MS–SIM is proposed. Differences over AOAC reference procedure were: (1) use of EC-d5 as internal standard instead of less similar propyl carbamate; (2) extraction by diethyl ether instead of more toxic dichloromethane, and (3) concentration by vacuum automated parallel evaporation instead of more time and work consuming rotary evaporation. Mean recovery was 104.4%, intraday precision was 6.7% (3.4μgL−1) and 1.7% (88.5μgL−1), regression coefficient was 0.999 in the linear working range of 3–89μgL−1, and limits of detection and quantification were 0.4 and 1.2μgL−1. Applicability was demonstrated by analysis (in triplicate) of 5 wine samples. EC concentration ranged from 5.2±0.2 to 29.4±1.5μgL−1. The analytical method is selective, accurate, repeatable, linear, and has similar method performance as the reference method along with the several mentioned advantages

Revelam, no entanto, alternativas de exercer pequenas rupturas neste padrão ao criarem, a partir da apropriação de outros saberes e outras significações pelas próprias experiências, um novo patamar de expectativas e possibilidades em suas vidas.<br>This article is the result of a study accomplished with three female heads of family living in a popular neighborhood in a town of the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. When investigating how gender meanings are constructed in the life trajectory of those women, we sought to reflect how those meanings locate the subjects in the plot of social and gender relations. Considering the historical, social and cultural construction of gender, the naturalization of the linking between sex and gender - so frequent in psychology - and the resulting regulation in the constitution of female and male subjectivities deriving from it can be questioned. The results point to the existence of permanencies such as the strong presence of sexual moral and the high value attributed by them to motherhood. They reveal, however, alternatives for carrying out small ruptures in that pattern when creating, from the appropriation of other knowledges and other significations for their own experiences, a new platform of expectations and possibilities in their lives
