Formation of fatty acids in photochemical conversions of saturated hydrocarbons

    Get PDF
Abiogenic synthesis of fatty acids was studied in photochemical conversions of saturated hydrocarbons. It was shown that, in a hydrocarbon water CaCO3 suspension, the action of 254 nm UV rays caused the formation of fatty acids with a maximum number of carbon atoms in the chain not exceeding that in the initial hydrocarbon. Synthesis of acetic, propionic, butyric, valeric, caproic, enanthic and caprylic (in the case of octane) acids occurs in heptane water CaCO3 and octane water CaCO3 systems

We present infrared spectra of Gd2 BaNiO5, which is isostructural to a prototype S=1 Haldane compound Y2 BaNiO 5 containing Ni2⊃+ chains, in the spectral range 2 meV-0.55 eV. Unlike Y2 BaNiO5, the studied compound contains magnetic rare-earth sublattices and orders antiferromagnetically at TN =58 K. Detailed information on optical phonons is given. Temperature dependences of frequencies and half widths for the two lowest-frequency phonons polarized along the Ni-chain direction evidence the interaction of these lattice vibrations with magnetic excitations. With the help of lattice-dynamics calculations, we find relative displacement vectors of ions for all the phonon modes and use them to discuss the mechanism of phonon-magnon interaction. The optical spectra exhibit a broad absorption continuum for radiation polarized along the chains, probably of magnetic origin, gradually decreasing with lowering temperature. A new mode at about 30 cm⊃-1 polarized along the chains (a axis) emerges below ∼150 K. A midinfrared absorption peak at 1306 cm⊃-1 (0.16 eV) is observed and found to sharpen and shift significantly at TN. We argue that it can be attributed to a phonon-assisted magnetic absorption and discuss its nature in the framework of the Lorenzana-Sawatzky-Eder model. © 2010 The American Physical Society

We report a rare case of successful surgical management (simultaneous esophagectomy and upper lobectomy with resection of the main and intermediate bronchi) of synchronous multiple primary cancer of the thoracic esophagus and central cancer of the right lung.    The role of morphological characteristics in differential diagnosis between synchronous neoplasia and metastasis has been described. This clinical case demonstrates successful one-stage surgical management of this disease provided a correct assessment of the extent of cancer involvement and the patient’s functional status.

Preparation for future teacher professional activity using a system for assessing the formation of competences

© 2019, Kazan Federal University. All rights reserved. The system of teacher professional training is currently focused on changing approaches to the organization of the practical component. A competence approach involves the evaluation of educational outcomes from the perspective of competence development. The purpose of this article is to determine the levels of competence formation among student teachers to identify the main competence components of further professional development. The study involved the assessment of 132 reports on master’s work following the results of pedagogical practice. The analysis enabled the identification of the problem areas in competence formation. The article presents the system of competency assessment developed by the authors during the undergraduates’ teaching practice. It offers recommendations for improving the basic professional educational programs, for changes both in the structure of the module itself and in the order of mastering the modules

The Peculiarities of Iris Murdoch’s artistic method (based on her novel “The Black Prince”)

For the purpose of defining Iris Murdoch’s artistic method a complex investigation of the problems and style of her famous novel “The Black Prince” was made. Special attention was given to the philosophical problems of Good and Evil, Contingency and Necessity in human life, absurdity, choice, aloofness, to the philosophical aspect of the novel, which is revealed with the help of the flash-back technique. The problems raised in the novel, its sensitive main character absorbed in psychoanalysis and looking for the sense of existence, naturalistic details & the postscripts, revealing different subjective points of view on the same events, prove that the novel should be regarded as existentialist
