Parametric analysis of thick plates subjected to earthquake excitations
Plates are structural elements commonly used in the building industry. A plate is considered to be a thin plate if the ratio of the plate thickness to the smaller span length is less than 1/20; it is considered to be a thick plate if this ratio is larger than 1/20. The purpose of this paper is to study shear locking-free analysis of thick plates using Mindlin’s theory and to determine the effects of the thickness/span ratio, the aspect ratio and the boundary conditions on the linear responses of thick plates subjected to earthquake excitations. Finite element formulation of the equations of the thick plate theory is derived by using second order displacement shape functions. A computer program using finite element method is coded in C++ to analyze the plates clamped or simply supported along all four edges. In the analysis, 17-noded finite element is used. Graphs and tables are presented that should help engineers in the design of thick plates subjected to earthquake excitations

belirlenmesi gerekir. Bu işlemin planlanmasında sonlu eleman modeli üzerinde
simülasyonlar yapılması, gerçeğe en yakın patlatmalı yıkım tasarımının
yapılmasında fayda sağlamaktadır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda, patlayıcı kullanılarak
yıkılması planlanan yapıların yapısal davranışının analizini yapabilmek ve
yıkılma mekanizmasının mümkün olduğunca gerçeğe yakın tahmin edilebilmesini
sağlayabilmek için bir simülasyon programı hazırlanmıştır. Bu simülasyon
programında, tipik bir betonarme binanın patlatmalı yıkım tasarımı gerçekleştirilmiştir
Design and analysis of a parallel mechanism for kinematically redundant hybrid planar laser cutting machine
Conventional planar laser cutting machines cannot achieve high accelerations, because the required precision values cannot be achieved due to the high inertial loads. Machines configured as kinematically redundant mechanisms are able to reach 5-6 g acceleration levels since they include a parallel mechanism with a smaller workspace which is exposed to smaller inertial loads. The study presented in this paper focuses on the design of a parallel planar mechanism to be integrated to the main axes of conventional planar laser cutting machines to achieve higher accelerations of the laser head up to 6 g. Parallel mechanism’s conceptual design and dynamic balancing studies are provided along with the joint clearance effect on precision due to having more joint structures.Republic of Turkey Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology & Coşkunöz Metal Form (Project code: 01668.STZ.2012-2
Implementation of Parallel K-Means Algorithm to Estimate Adhesion Failure in Warm Mix Asphalt
Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) and Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) are prepared at lower temperatures, making it more susceptible to moisture damage, which eventually leads to stripping due to the adhesion failure. Moreover, the assessment of the adhesion failure depends on the expertise of the investigator’s subjective visual assessment skills. Nowadays, image processing has gained popularity to address the inaccuracy of visual assessment. To attain high accuracy from image processing algorithms, the loss of pixels plays an essential role. In high-quality image samples, processing takes more execution time due to the greater resolution of the image. Therefore, the execution time of the image processing algorithm is also an essential aspect of quality. This manuscript proposes a parallel k means for image processing (PKIP) algorithm using multiprocessing and distributed computing to assess the adhesion failure in WMA and HMA samples subjected to three different moisture sensitivity tests (dry, one, and three freeze-thaw cycles) and fractured by indirect tensile test. For the proposed experiment, the number of clusters was chosen as ten (k = 10) based on k value and cost of k means function was computed to analyse the adhesion failure. The results showed that the PKIP algorithm decreases the execution time up to 30% to 46% if compared with the sequential k means algorithm when implemented using multiprocessing and distributed computing. In terms of results concerning adhesion failure, the WMA specimens subjected to a higher degree of moisture effect showed relatively lower adhesion failure compared to the Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) samples when subjected to different levels of moisture sensitivity
On kinematically redundant planar laser cutting machines
Conventional planar laser cutting machines with Cartesian XY motion systems cannot achieve high acceleration values while preserving the desired precision values due to high inertial forces. Recently some foreign companies have integrated redundant manipulators to the conventional planar laser cutting machines and hence obtained kinematically redundant hybrid mechanisms in order to achieve high acceleration values for the laser cutting head. This study reviews high acceleration laser cutting machines that appear in previous studies and in the market. Various types of mechanisms that can be used in laser cutting applications, the hybrid machines hence obtained and the measures for increasing precision are investigated. Also the kinematically redundant robot controllers are investigated for optimization of the manipulator motion in order to minimize the process time.İzmir Yüksek Teknoloji Enstitüsü ve Coşkunöz Metal Form Endüstri ve Ticaret A.Ş
Estimating Electric Energy Consumption in Turkey Using Artificial Neural Networks Optimized with Jaya Algorithm
This study’s primary objective was to use a Jaya algorithm to train an artificial neural network (ANN) model such that it can estimate Turkey’s future electric energy consumption (EEC). Employing gross domestic product (GDP), population, import, and export data as independent variables, the proposed method was examined. In order to show accuracy of proposed method, ANN-Jaya was compared with ANN models trained with two other high-performing optimization methods, namely the artificial bee colony (ABC) method and the teaching–learning-based optimization (TLBO) method. The ANN-Jaya model converges to a lower error
on the test dataset than the ANN-ABC and ANN-TLBO models. Thus, using the ANN-Jaya model, Turkey's EEC was projected out to 2023 under two different scenarios. The results were compared with projections by TEIAS (Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation) and other
related studies in the literature. The results show that EEC can be accurately modeled using ANN-Jaya, and that this optimization method is advantageous for predicting future electricity consumptio
Nowe algorytmy optymalizacji i ich zastosowanie do płaskiej kratownicy
In this study, two new algorithms named Rao-1 and Rao-2 are presented for the optimization of 2D truss structures. The main purpose of the optimization algorithms, used in this study, is to minimize the total weight of the truss structure. When carrying out this purpose, the allowable displacement and stress are taken into account as the constraints. The design variables are the cross-sectional areas of the steel truss bar elements. To calculate the structural response, the finite element analysis is coded in MATLAB. The optimal results obtained in this study are compared with those given in the literature in order to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed algorithms.Przedstawiono nowe algorytmy o nazwach Rao-1 i Rao-2 do optymalizacji płaskiej kratownicy. Investigating multi-objective time, cost, and risk problems using the Grey Wolf Optimization algorithm
Safety plays a crucial role in construction projects. Safety risks encompass potential hazards such as work accidents, injuries, and security. Consequently, it is important to effectively manage these risks with equal emphasis on time and cost considerations during the project planning phase. Within the scope of this research, the grid and archive-based Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) algorithm was employed to investigate multi-objective time-cost-risk problems. By employing the GWO, multiple Pareto solutions were provided to the decisionmaker, facilitating improved decision-making. It was determined that the GWO algorithm yields better results in time-cost-risk problems compared to the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Differential Evolution (DE) algorithms
