    Experiences of obesity among Saudi Arabian women contemplating bariatric surgery: An interpretative phenomenological analysis

Copyright @ 2013 The Authors.This study explored experiences of obesity, its perceived causes and motives for surgery, as described by seven Saudi women contemplating bariatric surgery. The women experienced cultural restrictions on their physical and social activities. Obesity embodied these restrictions, attracting stigma and moral failure. Traditional clothing, foods, hospitality norms and limited outdoor female activities were regarded as barriers to weight loss. Bariatric surgery was chosen to protect health and to access normative female roles. Some were encouraged by relatives who had undergone surgery. Opting for surgery reflected both participants’ sense of powerlessness to self-manage weight and the social acceptability, within their family context, of this biomedical approach

    Masalah utama dalam penelitian ini yaitu bagaimana menerapkan model pembelajaran Active Learning tipe Giving Question and Getting Answers. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa besar hasil belajar Fisika siswa yang diajar dengan menerapkan model active learning type GQGA, Apakah hasil belajar Fisika siswa kelas VIII1 SMP Negeri 2 Sungguminasasetelah diajar dengan model active learning type GQGA ada peningkatannya atau tidak. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pra eksperimendengan menggunakan desain One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design dengan melibatkan dua variabel yaitu variable bebas (pembelajaran Fisika dengan Model pembelajaran aktif tipe giving question and getting answer) dan variable terikat (hasil belajar fisika). Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Sungguminasa, sebanyak 4 kelas dengan jumlah siswa 194 siswa. Adapun sampel penelitian diambil dengan memilih kelas secara langsung yaitu kelas VIII1 dengan jumlah siswa sebanyak 48 orang. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk penelitian ini adalah tes tertulis, dengan soal pilihan ganda sebanyak 30 nomor. Hasil analisis deskriptif menunjukkan bahwa skor rata-rata hasil belajar Fisika siswa kelas VIII1 SMP Muhammadiyah 13 Makassar yang diajar dengan model active learning type GQGA berada dalam kategori tinggi.Dari hasil analisis N-Gain menunjukkan bahwa hasil belajar Fisika siswa kelas VIII1 SMPN 2 Sungguminasa terdapat peningkatan setelah diajar dengan model active learning type GQGA.Kata Kunci:Penelitian pra eksperimen, model active learning type GQGA, hasil belajar Fisika.Main problem in this research that is how to apply model study of Active Learning type of Giving Question and Getting Answers. Instrument used for this research is tes written, with double helix problem counted 30 number. Result of descriptive analysis indicate that mean score result of learning Physics class student of VIII1Junior High School Muhammadiyah 13 taught Makassar with model of activelearningtype GQGA stay in high category.     Metal Organic Frameworks as Promising High Surface Area Material for Work Function Gas Sensors

    AbstractFloating gate FET (FGFET) gas sensors based on work function readout allows usage of a wide range of materials to be included as sensing materials. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a new group of porous materials with extreme high inner surface area that have already shown high potential for applications in gas storage and separation, catalysis and sensing. In this work, MOFs are investigated for the first time with work function readout for gas sensing applications. The results demonstrate the high potential of MOFs for use as gas receptor materials in field- effect based gas sensors

    A hybrid approach to recognising activities of daily living from object use in the home environment

    Accurate recognition of Activities of Daily Living (ADL) plays an important role in providing assistance and support to the elderly and cognitively impaired. Current knowledge-driven and ontology-based techniques model object concepts from assumptions and everyday common knowledge of object use for routine activities. Modelling activities from such information can lead to incorrect recognition of particular routine activities resulting in possible failure to detect abnormal activity trends. In cases where such prior knowledge are not available, such techniques become virtually unemployable. A significant step in the recognition of activities is the accurate discovery of the object usage for specific routine activities. This paper presents a hybrid framework for automatic consumption of sensor data and associating object usage to routine activities using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modelling. This process enables the recognition of simple activities of daily living from object usage and interactions in the home environment. The evaluation of the proposed framework on the Kasteren and Ordonez datasets show that it yields better results compared to existing techniques

    Dalam proses pengajaran guru memiliki kewajiban, salah satunya adalah menarik minat belajar peserta didik dengan menyajikan pembelajaran yang dapat mengantarkan peserta didik mencapai hasil belajar yang memenuhi standar ketuntasan minimal (KKM). Pembelajaran fisika di SMP bertujuan untuk mengembangkan kemampuan siswa memahami konsep, hukum serta teori berdasarkan fakta di alam yang akrab dengan kehidupan sehari-hari. Salah satu konsep yang dekat dengan kehidupan peserta didik adalah konsep objek IPA dan penagamatannya. Tujuan penelitian yang ingin dicapai disesuaikan dengan rumusan masalah yang telah disusun. Tujuan tersebut antara lain: untuk mengetahui gambaran hasil belajar pada peserta didik kelas VIIA SMP Negeri 1 Tutallu sebelum diterapkan pembelajaran lembar kerja peserta didik, untuk mengetahui gambaran hasil belajar pada peserta didik kelas VIIA SMP Negeri 1 Tutallu setelah diterapkan lembar kerja peserta didik, dan untuk mengetahui bahwa penerapan pembelajaran berbantuan multimedia berbasis inkuiri terbimbing pada peserta didik kelas VIIA SMP Negeri 1 Tutallu dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar peserta didik terhadap pelajaran fisika. Penelitian ini merupakan penilitian pra eksperimen dengan batasan one group pre test-post test design. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIIA sebanyak 20 siswa. Tahap penelitian meliputi pretest, perlakuan, dan posttest. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan lembar kerja peserta didik terhadap hasil belajar peserta didik meningkat dalam kategori sedang. Peningkatan hasil belajar peserta didik dilihat dari selisih antara pre test dan post test.Kata kunci : hasil belajar, lembar kerja peserta didikIn the process of teaching teachers have obligations , one of which is the students' learning interests by presenting lessons that can deliver students achieve learning outcomes that meet the minimum standards of completeness ( KKM ) . Learning physics in SMP aims to develop students' ability to understand the concepts , laws and theories based on natural facts are familiar with everyday life . One concept that is close to the student life is the concept of Objek IPA dan Peangamatannya. The research objective to be achieved with a customized formulation of the problem that has been compiled . These Objectives include: to reveal the results of learning in class VIIA SMP Negeri 1 Tutallu before implementation of student worksheet, to reveal the results of learning in class VIIA SMP Negeri 1 Tutallu after implementation of student worksheet, and to know that the implementation of student worksheet in class VIIA SMP Negeri 1 Tutallu can improve student learning outcomes to teach physics . The research pre experiment is a limitation experiment with one group pre test-post test design. Subjects were as many as 20 students of class VIIA students. Phase of the study includes a pretest, treatment, and posttest. The results showed that the implementation student worksheet based toward improved student learning outcomes in the medium category.     Combining Flexible Queries and Knowledge Anchors to facilitate the exploration of Knowledge Graphs

    Semantic web and information extraction technologies are enabling the creation of vast information and knowledge repositories, particularly in the form of knowledge graphs comprising entities and the relationships between them. Users are often unfamiliar with the complex structure and vast content of such graphs. Hence, users need to be assisted by tools that support interactive exploration and flexible querying. In this paper we draw on recent work in flexible querying for graph-structured data and identifying good anchors for knowledge graph exploration in order to demonstrate how users can be supported in incrementally querying, exploring and learning from large complex knowledge graphs. We demonstrate our techniques through a case study in the domain of lifelong learning and career guidance

    What are the attributes of good pharmacy faculty (lecturers)? An international comparison of the views of pharmacy undergraduate students from universities in Australia and Wales, UK

    This study aimed to investigate what La Trobe pharmacy students (Australia) considered to be the attributes of a good lecturer (faculty member) and to compare the findings to pharmacy undergraduates at Cardiff University, Wales, UK. A 22 item questionnaire, developed at Cardiff, was administered to students at La Trobe University. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, and Mann-Whitney U Test or Kruskal-Wallis Test were used to compare groups. Ethics approval was obtained. Pharmacy students believed good lecturers (faculty) provided clear instruction and assessment criteria, were enthusiastic, inspired students to do their best, motivated students to learn, were accessible for support and started the teaching sessions on time. They also provided timely feedback and illustrated the relevance of material to pharmacy. Australian and UK pharmacy undergraduates in this study shared the same opinions on most aspects of the positive attributes of faculty (lecturers)
