Applications of Zigzag Persistence to Topological Data Analysis

The theory of zigzag persistence is a substantial extension of persistent homology, and its development has enabled the investigation of several unexplored avenues in the area of topological data analysis. A helyi szociálpolitika működése = The functioning of local social policy

A kutatás során arra kerestük a választ a törvényi szabályozás és helyi szociális rendeletek elemzésével, hogy a szabályozás szintjén milyen tényezők eredményeznek „jó”, a társadalmi befogadást elősegítő szociálpolitikai gyakorlatokat, és milyen okokra vezethető vissza a „rossz”, kirekesztő gyakorlatok kialakulása. A jogszabályalkotás hibáinak kijavítása önmagában nem oldja meg az iparággá terebélyesedett segélyezési rendszer strukturális problémáit, mégis úgy véljük: a segélyezés megvalósulási folyamata egy-egy elemének részletekbe menő elemzésével közelebb juthatunk a mögöttesen megbúvó makrostrukturális meghatározottságok megértéséhez. Mindezek feltárásához vizsgáltuk, hogy helytálló-e a feltételezésünk, miszerint már a törvényi szintű szabályozás megalapozza a helyi gyakorlatokban tetten érhető kirekesztő jelenségeket. Ennek érdekében 1993-tól, a szociális törvény megalkotásától kezdve 2007 végéig a különböző törvénymódosítások összehasonlító elemzésével írtuk le a segélyezési rendszer változásait. Majd 66 helyi rendelet és 25 önkormányzati esettanulmány több szempontú vizsgálatával bizonyítottuk: ha egyes negatív megoldásokra lehetőséget teremt a törvényi szintű szabályozás, akkor az önkormányzatok egy része bizony él is vele. Végül a környezettanulmány, mint eszköz működését írtuk le egyrészt, mert ez a segélyezési rendszer működésének meghatározó eleme, másrészt, mert a kiszolgáltatottság és az intézményesült önkény szimbólumának is tekinthető. | This research project intended to reveal, based on the analysis of the so called social act and some local social regulations, which factors result in „good”, inclusive solutions and which practices lead to „bed”, exclusionary outcomes. Although the correction of the contradictions of the regulations in it self would not solve the structural problems of the social assistance industry, we presumed, the detailed analysis of this element of the social assistance system could promote to understand the macro-structural determinants of the system. According to the hypothesis of the research project the jurisdiction lays the basis for the local exclusionary practices. To prove this assumption the comparative analysis of the social act was accomplished from the first version of the Act in 1993 till the end of 2007. Then it was proved by the complex analysis of 66 local social regulations and 25 case studies, if the Act creates the conditions for the exclusionary practices, a group of the local self-governments would make the „best” of the opportunities. Finally the functioning of the so called home visit (környezettanulmány), the symbol of the institutionalised arbitrariness was presented as a decisive instrument of the social assistance system

Determination of ignition points of liquid fuels under pressure

Two series of experiments were tried, in order to determine the ignition point at any desired pressure, the first series at constant and the second at varying pressure. The results differ greatly and indicate that testing under pressure, in the investigation of liquid fuels, can be done best in the laboratory and that the determination of the ignition points in an open vessel furnishes no certain indication of the behavior of the fuel in the engine
