    Predictive neutrino mass textures with origin of flavor symmetries

    We investigate origins of predictive one-zero neutrino mass textures in a systematic way. Here we search Abelian continuous(discrete) global symmetries, and non-Abelian discrete symmetries, and show how to realize these neutrino masses.     Non-Abelian Discrete Symmetries in Particle Physics

    We review pedagogically non-Abelian discrete groups, which play an important role in the particle physics. We show group-theoretical aspects for many concrete groups, such as representations, their tensor products. We explain how to derive, conjugacy classes, characters, representations, and tensor products for these groups (with a finite number). We discussed them explicitly for SNS_N, ANA_N, TT', DND_N, QNQ_N, Σ(2N2)\Sigma(2N^2), Δ(3N2)\Delta(3N^2), T7T_7, Σ(3N3)\Sigma(3N^3) and Δ(6N2)\Delta(6N^2), which have been applied for model building in the particle physics. We also present typical flavor models by using A4A_4, S4S_4, and Δ(54)\Delta (54) groups. Breaking patterns of discrete groups and decompositions of multiplets are important for applications of the non-Abelian discrete symmetry. We discuss these breaking patterns of the non-Abelian discrete group, which are a powerful tool for model buildings.     Evidence of mature adipocyte proliferation regulated by proliferin

    Despite much research, whether mature adipocytes proliferate remains controversial. Here, we examined 5-bromo-2′-deoxyuridine (BrdU)-labelling of mature adipocytes. Although BrdU incorporation into subcutaneous adipocytes was less than that in visceral adipocytes, pioglitazone (Pio) treatment increased BrdU incorporation in subcutaneous, but not visceral, adipocytes in rats. Fully differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes exhibited an increase in cell number and BrdU incorporation with time, with this increase enhanced by Pio treatment. We therefore screened for genes that encode growth factors regulated by Pio, and selected proliferin (PLF). Both gene silencing of PLF by small interfering RNA and treatment with anti-PLF antibody suppressed proliferation in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. In adipocytes isolated from Pio-treated rats, the tissue-specific pattern of PLF expression was similar to that of BrdU incorporation. Administration of an anti-PLF antibody to mice reduced BrdU incorporation into adipocytes. Mature adipocytes thus have the ability to replicate, and this proliferation is positively regulated by PLF

    Little SUSY hierarchy in mixed modulus-anomaly mediation

    Motivated by the KKLT string compactification involving a supersymmetry-breaking uplifting potential, we examine 4D effective supergravity with a generic form of uplifting potential, focusing on the possibility that the resulting mixed modulus-anomaly mediated soft terms realize the little hierarchy between the Higgs boson masses mHm_H and the sparticle masses mSUSYm_{SUSY}. It is noted that for some type of uplifting potential, the anomaly-mediated contribution to mH2m_H^2 at MGUTM_{GUT} can cancel the subsequent renormalization group evolution of mH2m_H^2 down to TeV scale, thereby the model can naturally realize the little hierarchy mH2mSUSY2/8π2m_H^2\sim m_{SUSY}^2/8\pi^2 which is desirable for the lightest Higgs boson mass to satisfy the experimental bound. In such models, the other Higgs mass parameters μ\mu and BB can have the desirable size μBmH\mu \sim B \sim m_H without severe fine-tuning of parameters, although the gravitino is much heavier than the Higgs boson. Those models for the little hierarchy avoid naturally the dangerous SUSY flavor and CP violations, and predict nearly degenerate low energy gaugino masses, pure Higgsino LSP, and also a specific relation between the stop and gaugino masses.Comment: revtex4, 16 page
