This thesis investigates the effect of monetary policy on financial stability and part of the real side of the Jordanian economy over the time period 1976-2009. It uses a number of empirical methodologies including: a Vector Autoregressive (VAR) to investigate the relationship between monetary policy and financial stability in Jordan; A Logit model and Markov switching model to study the currency crisis in Jordan; and an Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) to estimate an investment function for the Jordanian economy. Findings of the VAR models confirmed the relationship between monetary policy and financial stability in Jordan. However, a number of indictors were found to have a significant effect on the currency crisis in Jordan. These indictors included the real exchange rate, money supply-reserves ratio, and growth rate of domestic credit. On the other hand, a stable long-run investment function exists. Real income and real credit were found to have a positive impact on real investment. However, the user cost of capital has had a negative impact on real investment

Combating the Misrepresentation of Women in Quran Translations: Translational Interventions

    Get PDF
The discourse concerning Islam, and in particular the translation of the Quran, has had a profound impact on Western views of Muslim women. Most Quran translations are stained with mistranslations, resulting from translators adopting the literal approach for religious reasons that we will explore. This has an impact on many aspects of meaning, but especially the representation of women. It should be noted that this article is not influenced by the views of feminist groups who focus on seeking new interpretations of the Quran. Instead, it pinpoints the genuine interpretation lost in translation. This article endeavors to identify the translational mistakes, and their influence on the image of women, through a comparison with the original text in terms of linguistic and paralinguistic features found in the Quran. The article adopts the interpretive approach in the form of a multiple-case study to clarify the mistranslated cases and to provide genuine interpretation as understood within the original context, without either addition or omission. The article concludes that many Quran translations instantiate a fertile ground, contributing to the creation of a negative image of Muslim women in the eyes of the West. This is attributed to the translator’s lack of knowledge of Quranic scholarship, i.e., the paralinguistic issues and the excessive use of the literal approach that fails to capture the intended meaning of the original text

The aim of this study is to reveal the typical effect of Advanced Regulator controlling the survey of critical thinking skill in the National Study of Civic Education and Tenth Grade Students in the development of Jordan. The study population consisted of all tenth grade students in schools which included at least two divisions. However, this included the grade in the education directorate which is the banner of the southern shrine. The study sample consisted of 120 students from students in school communities. They included 40 male students and 80 female students, which were spread over four study group. Two of the four divisions in each school were taught the Advanced orderly pattern, while the other two divisions were taught the Achtbaraltvkir critic preset. This arbitration process procedure was carried out to test the equality of the groups. After a dimensional treatment, the collected data were statistically analyzed using statistical software (SPSS) and statistical processor Pearson correlation coefficient. The forgoing analysis were done to test the stability of the expense, as well as the calculated circles and standard deviations, in order to make comparisons. Furthermore, the results of the two-way analysis of variance ((2x2) Two-way ANOVA) was also extracted. The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α> 0.05) in the skill of critical thinking development, due to the pattern of teaching or the interaction between style and gender. There were statistically significant differences at the same level of significance attributed to gender (male and female) and in favor of female students. The study concluded with recommendations in their entirety focus attention on the need for modern teaching patterns, as well as critical thinking skill to give a greater share in the area of curriculum

Ph.D. University of Kansas, Educational Policy and Administration 1992The focus of this study is on the goals, implementation, and outcomes of Jordan's 1987 National Conference for Educational Reform (NCER). Its purpose is to describe and evaluate the large scale attempts at educational reform in Jordan. Evidence gathered so far suggests that techniques used in the NCER are a plausible and useful vehicle to develop effective schools; however, the implementation of such reform might not be as beneficial as Jordanian policymakers think, due to political and economic constraints, and the reformers lack of understanding schools as organizations. The study heavily emphasizes the National Conference principles since its purpose is to measure the influence of such principles on school effectiveness in Jordan. Also, the study attempts to answer the following questions about the reform recommended by the 1987 National Conference: (1) What are the recommendations of the 1987 NCER? (2) What changes occurred in schools, teachers, administrators, curriculum, and governance because of this reform movement? (3) Did, or will, this reform create the condition it sought to create? (4) What is left to be done? (5) What are the obstacles facing the National Conference reform ? (6) What other obstacles might be faced in the future while in the process of this reform? (7) How can these obstacles be avoided? Based on information gathered through the literature, observations, and interviews, the researcher believes that the NCER failed to deal effectively with most of the issues concerning real improvement in Jordan's educational system. Also, the researcher believes that the idea of pioneer schools exists only on paper and the name represents nothing more than a prestigious label. Moreover, pioneer school administrators do not know if there is any significant relation in what they do and student achievement. The study provides recommendations to revise the National Conference reform plan. These recommendations deal with pioneer schools, evaluation and supervision, national assessment and statewide testing, instruction, system evaluation, the 1988-1998 plan, and curriculum improvement. Finally, the researcher expects that this work will encourage, stimulate, and strengthen scholarly research on school improvement and educational reform

More than 85% (13 out of 15) of the interviewed contractors indicated that they do not have marketing departments or divisions in their companies. Only 13% of contracting companies (2 out of 15) have a separate marketing division with a few staff and little budget.
