Valley separation in graphene by polarized light
We show that the optical excitation of graphene with polarized light leads to
the pure valley current where carriers in the valleys counterflow. The current
in each valley originates from asymmetry of optical transitions and electron
scattering by impurities owing to the warping of electron energy spectrum. The
valley current has strong polarization dependence, its direction is opposite
for normally incident beams of orthogonal linear polarizations. In undoped
graphene on a substrate with high susceptibility, electron-electron scattering
leads to an additional contribution to the valley current that can dominate.Comment: 4+ pages, 2 figure
Ultrastructure of meristem and root cap of pea seedlings under spaceflight conditions
Data of electron microscopic analysis of meristem and root cap of pea seedlings grown aboard the Salyut-6 orbital research station in the Oazis apparatus and in the laboratory are presented. The main morphological and anatomical characteristics of the test and control plants are shown to be similar. At the same time, some differences are found in the structural and functional organization of the experimental cells as compared to the controls. They concern first of all the plastic apparatus, mitochondria and Golgi apparatus. It is assumed that cell function for certain periods of weightlessness on the whole ensures execution of the cytodifferentiation programs genetically determined on the Earth. Biochemical and physiological processes vary rather markedly due to lack of initially rigorous determination
Spin-orbit Hanle effect in high-mobility quantum wells
We study the depolarization of optically oriented electrons in quantum wells
subjected to an in-plane magnetic field and show that the Hanle curve
drastically depends on the carrier mobility. In low-mobility structures, the
Hanle curve is described by a Lorentzian with the width determined by the
effective g-factor and the spin lifetime. In contrast, the magnetic field
dependence of spin polarization in high-mobility quantum wells is nonmonotonic:
The spin polarization rises with the magnetic field induction at small fields,
reaches maximum and then decreases. We show that the position of the Hanle
curve maximum can be used to directly measure the spin-orbit Rashba/Dresselhaus
magnetic field.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Tunneling spin-galvanic effect
It has been shown that tunneling of spin-polarized electrons through a
semiconductor barrier is accompanied by generation of an electric current in
the plane of the interfaces. The direction of this interface current is
determined by the spin orientation of the electrons, in particular the current
changes its direction if the spin orientation changes the sign. Microscopic
origin of such a 'tunneling spin-galvanic' effect is the spin-orbit
coupling-induced dependence of the barrier transparency on the spin orientation
and the wavevector of electrons.Comment: 3 pages, 2 figure
Conversion of hole states by acoustic solitons
The hole states in the valence band of a large class of semiconductors are
degenerate in the projections of angular momentum. Here we show that the
switching of a hole between the states can efficiently be realized by acoustic
solitons. The microscopic mechanism of such a state conversion is related to
the valence band splitting by local elastic strain. The conversion is studied
here for heavy holes localized at shallow and deep acceptors in silicon quantum
wells.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Development Of Reciptures Of Canned Smothies Made From Zucchini And Fruits
Rational nutrition for a whole year is possible with a well-established system of storage and processing of plant raw materials. Products with vegetable and fruit raw materials due to their availability and nutritional value are in demand among the population. There is a constant interest in new products with increased biological value. The preservation of ascorbic acid, the main source of which is vegetables and fruits, is also affected by the technology of production. Despite the damaging effect of the heat treatment temperature of canned products on thermolabile components, the sterilization regimes should be relaxed. To this end, it has been proposed to produce beverages from vegetables and fruits for scientifically-based recipes, which allows them to be processed at a temperature of 100 °C, as well as juices with pulp and sugar. Smoothie, made on the basis of zucchini with the addition of gooseberries and blackcurrant puree contain respectively 13.3 and 41.8 mg/100 g of ascorbic acid, have an optimal for good perception of the sugar-acid index 21,4-21,5 compared with juices from soft pulp and sugar from gooseberry and black currant, which produces industry. The latter is explained by the fact that instead of sugar syrup, natural juice from zucchini was used in the recipe
Pure spin photocurrents in low-dimensional structures
As is well known the absorption of circularly polarized light in
semiconductors results in optical orientation of electron spins and
helicity-dependent electric photocurrent, and the absorption of linearly
polarized light is accompanied by optical alignment of electron momenta. Here
we show that the absorption of unpolarized light leads to generation of a pure
spin current, although both the average electron spin and electric current
vanish. We demonstrate this for direct interband and intersubband as well as
indirect intraband (Drude-like) optical transitions in semiconductor quantum
wells (QWs).Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
The aim of the work. Determination of the influence of container dimensions, in which the conductometer is calibrated, on the correctness of measuring the specific electrical conductivity of test solutions and distilled water for pharmacopoeial needs.
Materials and Methods. The specific electrical conductivity measurement of standard solutions and distilled water was carried out on a Hanna HI 2300 conductometer at a temperature of (25.0±0.5) °C. The conductivity meter was calibrated using a "Conductivity Standard 84 µSm/sm" solution (Mettler Toledo). An additional check of the correct operation of the conductometer was done using a solution of 29.4 µS/cm. Distilled water was obtained on a GFL-2008 aquadistiller. The temperature of standard solutions and distilled water was controlled by a TFA 30.1018 thermometer and maintained by a LOIP LT-112 circulation thermostat. Standard solutions and distilled water were stored and tested in high-pressure polyethylene containers.
Results and Discussion. The experiment proved that the value of the specific electrical conductivity of the test solutions and distilled water depends on the container volume in which the conductometer was calibrated and in which container the measurement was made. In the case of small volumes containers (20 and 50 ml), the correct result is obtained only under conditions of calibration and measuring in the containers of the same volume. In case of measuring the specific electrical conductivity of distilled water in a smaller container than the one in which the calibration was performed, the device shows underestimated values. In larger containers, the values of specific electrical conductivity are overestimated. In case of calibration in a 100 ml container, the correct result is achieved for measuring the specific electrical conductivity of distilled water in 100 and 1000 ml containers. The obtained results can be explained by the so-called "field effect" – the electromagnetic field is partially outside the geometric space of the measuring cell, and it can be affected by inhomogeneities and interference, such as vessel walls.
Conclusions. The correct conductivity measurements for small volumes of solutions (20 and 50 ml) can be obtained by calibrating the conductometer and measuring the conductivity in containers of the same size and volume. The best approach is to calibrate and measure the electrical conductivity of solutions in containers with a volume of at least 100 ml, in order to minimize the influence of the walls of the container on the correct conductometric measurements.
Spin orientation by electric current in (110) quantum wells
We develop a theory of spin orientation by electric current in (110)-grown
semiconductor quantum wells. The controversy in the factor of two from two
existed approaches is resolved by pointing out the importance of energy
relaxation in this problem. The limiting cases of fast and slow energy
relaxation relative to spin relaxation are considered for asymmetric (110)
quantum wells. For symmetricly-doped structures the effect of spin orientation
is shown to exist due to spatial fluctuations of the Rashba spin-orbit
splitting. We demonstrate that the spin orientation depends strongly on the
correlation length of these fluctuations as well as on the ratio of the energy
and spin relaxation rates. The time-resolved kinetics of spin polarization by
electric current is also governed by the correlation length being not purely
exponential at slow energy relaxation. Electrical spin orientation in
two-dimensional topological insulators is calculated and compared with the spin
polarization induced by the magnetic field.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figure
The aim of the work. The development of simple rapid approaches for residual quantities of Neodisher Laboclean PLM detergent in laboratory glassware determining, which are based on the use of pharmacopeia methods (testing the electrical conductivity and the test “oxidizable substances”) and assessing the quality of glassware washing with a disinfection-washing machine.
Materials and Methods. Distilled and deionized water was obtained, respectively, on a GFL2008 aquadistillator and a Millipore Direct-Q 3 UV system. Conductivity studies were performed on a Hanna HI 2300 conductivity meter. Neodisher LaboClean PLM detergent solutions were used. Washing of laboratory glassware was carried out in a G7883 disinfection-washing machine.
Results and Discussion. The electrical conductivity of solutions of various concentrations of Neodisher Laboclean PLM was measured. The obtained data was processed by Excel in order to build a calibration graph and derive its mathematical equation. These approaches, despite the lack of selectivity, make it possible to identify residual contamination of laboratory glassware with Laboclean PLM detergent in concentrations, respectively, of 10-5% and 10-2%. In a similar way, a calibration graph was obtained and the residual amount of one of the hardness salts of tap water (CaCO3) – was estimated. Studies of the cleanliness of laboratory glassware after washing in a washer-disinfector were carried out on the basis of the received data.
Conclusions. The obtained data (0.8–3.2 and 2.3–10.0 μg/dishware, respectively, for Neodisher LaboClean PLM detergent and CaCO3) indicate that the cleanliness of laboratory glassware after washing in a G7883 washer-disinfector is satisfactory for solving of the most tasks of analytical and pharmaceutical chemistry.
