Adaptive Estimation of Line-of-sight Rate Measurement from a Radio Frequency Seeker

    Get PDF
The line-of-sight (LOS) rate output from a radio frequency (RF) seeker is widely used during the homing phase guidance of a tactical missile: The LOS rate is noisy and needs to be filtered. The application of an adaptive Kalman filter for the L.OS rate state estimation has been studied. This filter requires minimal a priori knowledge about technical parameters of the seeker. It isalso capable of estimating the variable noise statistics

Sum Rule Approach to the Isoscalar Giant Monopole Resonance in Drip Line Nuclei

Using the density-dependent Hartree-Fock approximation and Skyrme forces together with the scaling method and constrained Hartree-Fock calculations, we obtain the average energies of the isoscalar giant monopole resonance. The calculations are done along several isotopic chains from the proton to the neutron drip lines. It is found that while approaching the neutron drip line, the scaled and the constrained energies decrease and the resonance width increases. Similar but smaller effects arise near the proton drip line, although only for the lighter isotopic chains. A qualitatively good agreement is found between our sum rule description and the presently existing random phase approximation results. The ability of the semiclassical approximations of the Thomas-Fermi type, which properly describe the average energy of the isoscalar giant monopole resonance for stable nuclei, to predict average properties for nuclei near the drip lines is also analyzed. We show that when hbar corrections are included, the semiclassical estimates reproduce, on average, the quantal excitation energies of the giant monopole resonance for nuclei with extreme isospin values.Comment: 31 pages, 12 figures, revtex4; some changes in text and figure

Quality Perspective of Polytechnic Education in West Bengal

Technical Education is one of the more significant components of Human Resource Development spectrum with great potential for adding value to products and services and for contributing to the national economy and improving quality of life of the people. Technician education has made steady progress in meeting the demand of middle level technical personnel for various sectors of national development. Quality issues in technical education are very important aspect since it bears a direct impact on the improvement of the education process

The present study was undertaken to detect the prevalence, virulence gene profile and antibiotic resistance of Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) and Necrotoxigenic E. coli (NTEC) in healthy water buffalo in West Bengal. Out of the 363 E. coli isolates from 165 faecal samples, 18 (4.95%) and 7 (1.9%) isolates were found to possess genes for ETEC (LT or STa or STb) and NTEC (cnf1 or cnf2), respectively in PCR. Among the 18 ETEC isolates, 13 (72.22%), 12 (66.67%), and 1 (5.56%) isolates were found to harbour STa, LT, and STb genes respectively. However, among the 7 NTEC isolates, 3 (42.85%) and 4 (57.14%) were detected to possess cnf1 and cnf2 genes, respectively. Further, among the five isolates possessing the EAST 1 gene, four were detected with the STa gene and one (1) with the LT gene. However, the majority of the F41 strains possessed ST genes, and F5 strains harboured both LT and ST. In addition, one out of three cnf1 NTEC isolates was detected to harbour the papC gene and all the four cnf2 NTEC isolates contained the cdt gene. The ETEC isolates belonged to 11 different serogroups (O11, O53, O71, O84, O88, O103, O112, O120, O128, O153, and O158), while, four NTEC isolates belonged to the OUT serogroup and the remaining 3 were disseminated among the O2, O4, and O6 serogroups. The RAPD of the ETEC isolates produced different electrophoretic profifi les. The antibiotic resistance of ETEC and NTEC isolates was observed most frequently to amikacin (56%), kanamycin (44%), gentamicin (40%), neomycin (36%). The study thus revealed water buffalo as a reservoir of multi drug resistant ETEC/NTEC for the first time in India. Četiri izolata NTEC pripadala su serološkoj skupini OUT, a preostala tri skupinama O2, O4 i O6.

A community based cross-sectional study in the age group 25 years and above conducted at the field area of primary health centre Chakenahalli, Hassan district, Karnataka, India. The population was similar in characteristics regarding occupation, socio-economic status and food habits. Total of 626 subjects were included by multi-stage sampling. Information collected by the interviewers through face to face interview, after informed consent. The individuals were assessed on anthropometric parameters and screening was done by Random Blood Glucose (RBG) with a standardized technique; diagnosis of type 2 diabetes done by WHO criteria. Prevalence of diabetes was found in 11.3% males and 15% females, altogether the total prevalence was 13.09% with 8.79% self reported cases of diabetes . Hypertension was associated with 25.6% diabetic subjects. It was also observed that 28.1% of study population had BMI ≥ 25

Pseudo-Schwarzschild Spherical Accretion as a Classical Black Hole Analogue

We demonstrate that a spherical accretion onto astrophysical black holes, under the influence of Newtonian or various post-Newtonian pseudo-Schwarzschild gravitational potentials, may constitute a concrete example of classical analogue gravity naturally found in the Universe. We analytically calculate the corresponding analogue Hawking temperature as a function of the minimum number of physical parameters governing the accretion flow. We study both the polytropic and the isothermal accretion. We show that unlike in a general relativistic spherical accretion, analogue white hole solutions can never be obtained in such post-Newtonian systems. We also show that an isothermal spherical accretion is a remarkably simple example in which the only one information--the temperature of the fluid, is sufficient to completely describe an analogue gravity system. For both types of accretion, the analogue Hawking temperature may become higher than the usual Hawking temperature. However, the analogue Hawking temperature for accreting astrophysical black holes is considerably lower compared with the temperature of the accreting fluid.Comment: Final Version to appear in the journal General Relativity & Gravitation, Volume 27, Issue 11, 2005. 17 pages, Two colour and one black and white figures.
