Solution for a time-series AR model based on robust TLS estimation

    No full text
We discuss an algorithm for the autoregression (AR) model as a typical time-series model. By analyzing the structure of the AR model, we highlight the shortcomings of traditional algorithms for model parameter estimation and propose an approach to overcome the shortcomings of traditional solutions for the AR model. The errors-in-variables (EIV) model is used to solve an existing problem. There is an obvious difference between the AR model and a traditional model. For the AR model, one observation datum appears repeatedly; hence, the residual of one observation datum is not unique. Furthermore, in theory, the optimal estimation of model parameters cannot be obtained by current solutions. Based on an analysis of the AR model, we focus on how to obtain the optimal estimation when the observation data of the AR model are contaminated by outliers. The median function is used to establish a modified solution for the AR model based on the institute of geodesy & geophysics, Chinese academy of sciences (IGG) weight function by comparison with current algorithms for the robust estimation of the EIV model. We propose an iterative algorithm based on median function. Finally, we apply two numerical instances to compare the proposed algorithm with traditional algorithms and draw conclusions from results of the instances

A Multiresolution Vector Data Compression Algorithm Based on Space Division

    No full text
Vector data compression can significantly improve efficiency of geospatial data management, visualization and data transmission over internet. Existing compression methods are either based on information theory for lossless compression mainly or based on map generalization methods for lossy compression. Coordinate values of vector spatial data are mostly represented using floating-point type in which data redundancy is small and compression ratio using lossy algorithms is generally better than that of lossless compression algorithms. The purpose of paper is to implement a new algorithm for efficient compression of vector data. The algorithm, named space division based compression (SDC), employs the basic idea of linear Morton and Geohash encoding to convert floating-point type values to strings of binary chain with flexible accuracy level. Morton encoding performs multiresolution regular spatial division to geographic space. Each level of regular grid splits space horizontally and vertically. Row and column numbers in binary forms are bit interleaved to generate one integer representing the location of each grid cell. The integer values of adjacent grid cells are proximal to each other on one dimension. The algorithm can set the number of divisions according to accuracy requirements. Higher accuracy can be achieved with more levels of divisions. In this way, multiresolution vector data compression can be achieved accordingly. The compression efficiency is further improved by grid filtering and binary offset for linear and point geometries. The vector spatial data compression takes visual lossless distance on screen display as accuracy requirement. Experiments and comparisons with available algorithms show that this algorithm produces a higher data rate saving and is more adaptable to different application scenarios

Abstract Background Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) among children is an increasing public health concern. The identification of behavioral risk factors, including sleep quality, has important public health implications for prioritizing behavioral intervention strategies for ADHD. Herein, this study aimed to investigate the prevalence of high levels of ADHD symptoms and to explore the association between sleep schedules, sleep-related problems and ADHD symptoms among preschoolers aged 3 to 6 years in mainland China. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted, comprising a large sample of 15,291 preschoolers in Ma’anshan city of Anhui Province in China. ADHD symptoms were assessed by the 10-item Chinese version of the Conners Abbreviated Symptom Questionnaire (C-ASQ). Sleep-related variables included caregivers’ responses to specific questions addressing children’s daytime and nighttime sleep schedules, as well as sleep-related behaviors. Data on other factors were also collected, such as socio-demographic characteristics, TV viewing duration on weekdays and weekends, and outdoor activities. Logistic regression models were used to analyze the relationships between sleep schedules, sleep-related problems and ADHD symptoms. Results Approximately 8.6% of the total sample of preschoolers had high levels of ADHD symptoms, with boys having higher levels than girls (9.9% vs. 7.2%). In the logistic regression analysis, after adjusting for TV viewing duration, outdoor activities, and socio-demographic characteristics, delayed bedtime was significantly associated with a risk of high levels of ADHD symptoms, with odds ratios (OR) of 2.50 [95% confidence interval (CI): 2.09 ~ 3.00] and 2.04 (95% CI: 1.72 ~ 2.42) for weekdays and weekends, respectively. Longer time falling asleep (≥ 31 min) (OR = 1.76, 95% CI: 1.47 ~ 2.11), no naps (OR = 1.57, 95% CI: 1.34 ~ 1.84) and frequent sleep-related problems (OR = 4.57, 95% CI: 3.86 ~ 5.41) were also significantly associated with an increased risk of high levels of ADHD symptoms, while longer sleep duration (> 8.5 h) was associated with a decreased risk of high levels of ADHD symptoms (OR = 0.76, 95% CI: 0.67~ 0.87). Conclusions ADHD symptoms are prevalent in preschoolers in Ma’anshan region, China. Undesirable sleep schedules and sleep-related problems among preschoolers confer a risk of ADHD symptoms, highlighting the finding that beneficial and regular sleep habits potentially attenuate ADHD symptoms among preschoolers

The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between pregnancy-specific anxiety and elective cesarean section, and identify the critical period in which pregnancy-specific anxiety will affect the elective cesarean section. Primiparous women in the 1st trimester of pregnancy were invited to participate in the cohort. General information on maternal socio-demographic characteristics and environmental exposure were collected using questionnaires. Pregnancy-specific anxiety was assessed by using pregnancy-specific anxiety questionnaire in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester, respectively. Delivery modes and pregnancy complications were abstracted from medical notes. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was adopted to examine the relationship between pregnancy-specific anxiety and elective cesarean section. Results indicated the overall elective cesarean section rate in this study was 45%. Among 1 874 pregnant women, 30.9% women experienced anxiety at least once during pregnancy, and 6.9% women suffered from anxiety in all three trimesters. Anxiety in the 2nd trimester was a significant predictor for elective cesarean section. Young maternal age and low educational level had indirect effects on women's choice of elective caesarean section through affecting pregnancy-specific anxiety. More attention should be paid to maternal psychological problems, and professional counseling needs to be strengthened to protect women from pregnancy-specific anxiety

Study on the Pressure-Bearing Law of Backfilling Material Based on Three-Stage Strip Backfilling Mining

During strip backfilling mining in coal mines, the backfilling material is the main support structure. Therefore, studying the pressure law of the backfilling material is essential for the safe and efficient mining of coal resources. Based on research into strip backfilling mining at working face number 3216 of the Shanghe Coal Mine, and to smooth transition of overlying strata loads to the backfilling material, this study proposes a three-stage strip backfilling mining method. Based on thin-plate theory, an elastic thin-plate model, a reasonable spacing of strip mining is constructed, and the reasonable mining parameters of “mining 7 m to retain 8 m” at working face number 3216 of the Shanghe Coal Mine are determined. The law of backfilling pressure in three-stage strip backfilling mining is studied through numerical simulation and physical simulation experiments. The results show that field measurement results are basically consistent with the experimental results and numerical simulation results. When three-stage strip backfilling mining is adopted, the stage-one backfilling material is the main bearing body to which the overlying rock load transfers smoothly and gradually, and the structure of the “overburden-coal pillar (or backfilling strip)” in the stope remains stable. In three-stage strip backfilling mining, the overlying rock load is ultimately transferred to the stage-one backfilling material, the stage-two backfilling material is the auxiliary bearing body, and the stage-three backfilling material mainly provides long-term stable lateral support for the stage-one backfilling material

Placenta response of inflammation and oxidative stress in low-risk term childbirth: the implication of delivery mode

Abstract Background Caesarean delivery rate is increasing gradually in China and there is no doubt that delivery mode is closely associated with the maternal health and infant development. This study examined the independent effect of delivery mode on placenta inflammation response and oxidative stress response. Methods A total of 3474 pregnant women recruited in Ma’anshan Birth Cohort Study were the initial study population. Data on maternal socio-demographic characteristics and pre-pregnancy BMI were collected at their 1st antenatal checkups. Pregnancy-specific anxiety was assessed during the three trimesters of pregnancy. Common pregnant complications were monitored in the whole pregnancy period. Delivery modes, as well as newborn characteristics were abstracted from medical records. Delivery modes included vaginal deliveries (VD), caesarean delivery with medical indications (CDMI), caesarean delivery on maternal request (CDMR) and urgent cesarean delivery (UCD). Placentas were collected during childbirth. The mRNA expression of IL-1β, TNF-a, IL-6, IFN-γ, IL-4, IL-10, IL-8, and HO-1 were assessed in the final sample of 1978 low-risk women with singleton term-births. Results The overall rate of caesarean delivery (CD) was 50.5% (1650/3265) in singleton term childbirths in this study. Among women who reported definite CD reasons, 56.8%of them chose the surgery without any medical indications. It shows a non-linear relationship between cytokines related with placenta inflammatory response, oxidative stress response and different delivery modes. At high percentiles of IL-1β, IFN-γ and IL-8, women with CDMR had higher expression levels compared to women with VD. Women with CDMI had higher levels at median percentiles of IL-1β, IFN-γ and IL-8. Women with CDMR had higher expression compared with VD at high percentiles of IL-6 and HO-1, and women with CDMI had higher levels of these two cytokines at their low percentiles. It is worth noting that at high percentiles, compared with normal delivery, the expression of IL-1β, IFN-γ, IL-8 and HO-1 have significantly altered in women with CDMR. Conclusion A high overall CD rate was found in this study, and caesarean delivery on maternal request was the major contributor to the high prevalence. Maternal placental oxidative stress and inflammatory response were closely associated with delivery mode. The effect is much amplified at high levels of expression in women who chose CD on maternal request.Such difference needs to be noticed and may have important implications for obstetricians, midwives and other perinatal health care workers

DNA adducts of 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine and 4-aminobiphenyl are infrequently detected in human mammary tissue by liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry.

International audienceSome epidemiological investigations have revealed that frequent consumption of well-done cooked meats and tobacco smoking are risk factors for breast cancer in women. 2-Amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (PhIP) is a heterocyclic aromatic amine that is formed in well-done cooked meat, and 4-aminobiphenyl (4-ABP) is an aromatic amine that arises in tobacco smoke and occurs as a contaminant in the atmosphere. Both compounds are rodent mammary carcinogens, and putative DNA adducts of PhIP and 4-ABP have been frequently detected, by immunohistochemistry (IHC) or (32)P-post-labeling methods, in mammary tissue of USA women. Because of these findings, PhIP and 4-ABP have been implicated as causal agents of human breast cancer. However, the biomarker data are controversial: both IHC and (32)P-post-labeling are non-selective screening methods and fail to provide confirmatory spectral data. Consequently, the identities of the lesions are equivocal. We employed a specific and sensitive liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (MS) method, to screen tumor-adjacent normal mammary tissue for DNA adducts of PhIP and 4-ABP. Only 1 of 70 biopsy samples obtained from Minneapolis, Minnesota breast cancer patients contained a PhIP-DNA adduct. The level was three adducts per 10(9) nucleotides, a level that is 100-fold lower than the mean level of PhIP adducts reported by IHC or (32)P-post-labeling methods. The occurrence of 4-ABP-DNA adducts was nil in those same breast tissues. Our findings, derived from a specific mass spectrometry method, signify that PhIP and 4-ABP are not major DNA-damaging agents in mammary tissue of USA women and raise questions about the roles of these chemicals in breast cancer

Study on Rheological and Mechanical Properties of Aeolian Sand-Fly Ash-Based Filling Slurry

Backfill mining is the most environmentally friendly mining method at present, which can effectively control the surface subsidence, improve the recovery rate, and has good social and economic benefits. The purpose of this study is to solve the environmental problems caused by solid waste, combined with the rich geographical advantages of aeolian sand in the Yushenfu mining area of China. The rheological properties of the aeolian sand-fly ash-based filling slurry with different fly ash content are studied by experiments, and the strength development law of the filling body under different age and fly ash content are studied from the macroscopic and microscopic points of view. The rheological experiments showed that the increase of the amount of fly ash has a significant effect on the thixotropy, plastic viscosity, and yield stress of the filling slurry. Additionally, rheological properties of aeolian sand-fly ash-based filling slurry conform to the Bingham model. With the increase of the amount of fly ash, the performance of the filling slurry has been significantly improved. Uniaxial test and scanning electron microscope observation showed that the influence of fly ash on the strength of the filling body was mainly reflected in the late stage of maintenance, but was not obvious in the middle stage. Fly ash particles mainly bear the role of “water reduction” and a physical filling effect, which makes the filling slurry thicker and the internal structure more closely spaced. The volcanic ash reaction of fly ash is lagging behind the hydration reaction of cement; the secondary product of the delayed reaction is filled in the pores of cement hydrates, which can greatly reduce the porosity of the backfill body and increase the later strength of the backfill body. It provides a guarantee for the safe replacement of coal pillars in the working face

Recently, there has been a surge of interest in nanogenerators within the scientific community because their immense potential for extracting energy from the surrounding environment. A promising approach involves utilizing ambient moisture as an energy source for portable devices. In this study, moisture-enabled nanogenerators (MENGs) are devised by integrating heterojunctions of graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO). Benefiting from the unique structure, a larger ion concentration gradient is achieved as well as a lower resistance, which leads to enhanced electricity generation. The resulting MENG generates a desirable open-circuit voltage of 0.76 V and a short-circuit current density of 73 µA cm−2 with a maximum power density of 15.8 µW cm−2. Notably, the designed device exhibits a high voltage retention of more than 90% after 3000 bending cycles, suggesting a high potential for flexible applications. Moreover, a large-scale integrated MENG array is developed by incorporating flexible printed circuit technology and connecting it to a power management system. This integrated system can provide ample energy to operate an electronic ink display and drive a heart rate sensor for health monitoring. The outcomes of this research present a novel framework for advancing next-generation self-powered flexible devices, thereby demonstrating significant promise for future wearable electronics

Mapping the contact surfaces in the Lamin A:AIMP3 complex by hydrogen/deuterium exchange FT-ICR mass spectrometry

    No full text
<div><p>Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases-interacting multifunctional protein3 (AIMP3/p18) is involved in the macromolecular tRNA synthetase complex via its interaction with several aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases. Recent reports reveal a novel function of AIMP3 as a tumor suppressor by accelerating cellular senescence and causing defects in nuclear morphology. AIMP3 specifically mediates degradation of mature Lamin A (LmnA), a major component of the nuclear envelope matrix; however, the mechanism of how AIMP3 interacts with LmnA is unclear. Here we report solution-phase hydrogen/deuterium exchange (HDX) for AIMP3, LmnA, and AIMP3 in association with the LmnA C-terminus. Reversed-phase LC coupled with LTQ 14.5 T Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS) results in high mass accuracy and resolving power for comparing the D-uptake profiles for AIMP3, LmnA, and their complex. The results show that the AIMP3-LmnA interaction involves one of the two putative binding sites and an adjacent novel interface on AIMP3. LmnA binds AIMP3 via its extreme C-terminus. Together these findings provide a structural insight for understanding the interaction between AIMP3 and LmnA in AIMP3 degradation.</p></div
