    On Generalization and Computation of Tukey's Depth: Part I

    Tukey's depth offers a powerful tool for nonparametric inference and estimation, but also encounters serious computational and methodological difficulties in modern statistical data analysis. This paper studies how to generalize and compute Tukey-type depths in multi-dimensions. A general framework of influence-driven polished subspace depth, which emphasizes the importance of the underlying influence space and discrepancy measure, is introduced. The new matrix formulation enables us to utilize state-of-the-art optimization techniques to develop scalable algorithms with implementation ease and guaranteed fast convergence. In particular, half-space depth as well as regression depth can now be computed much faster than previously possible, with the support from extensive experiments.     Research on the FE and semi-analytical solution with the blade-casing rub-impact dynamical system

    Based on the elasticity theory, a differential equation of forced oscillation of the blade-casing system with rub-impact excitation was deduced, and the steady analytic solution was derived. The analytic solution was verified with the FE (finite element) method, the results indicated that the eigenvalues of dynamical equation by FE method are larger than the semi-analytical method’s, while the vibration modes are identical. Due to the characteristics of rub-impact excitation between the blade and casing, it is not suitable to solve impacting vibrational response for rotating blade with the steady analytic solution. Therefore, the semi-analytical solution was adopted to solve these dynamic problems, which can get the vibration response of any position for its continuity characteristic. Then, the FE and semi-analytical method is used. The comparison of dynamical response with changing speed, rub-impact depth and the friction coefficient was investigated in details. It is found that the speed has the greater effect on the dynamical vibration response, but other parameters affect the response slightly at the same rotational speed. When the friction coefficient and rub-impact depth unchanging, with the increasing speed, the contribution of each multi-frequency component to the resonant response grows obviously, especially the high-harmonic components should be pay more attention. Blade-casing model is easy to form a new resonance system, which will appear different resonant response with the increasing friction coefficient. When the friction coefficient reaches to a certain value, the response amplitude tends to be stable

    The spatially varying polarization of a focused Gaussian beam in quasi-phase-matched superlattice under electro-optic effect

    We present in this paper a wave coupling theory of linear electr-ooptic (EO) effect for quasi-phase matched (QPM) of focused Gaussian beam in an optical superlattice (OSL). The numerical results indicate that, due to the EO effect of an appropriate applied electric field, the output beam will form spatially inhomogeneous polarization, changing continuously in transverse section of beam; the confocal parameter has a significant impact on the output polarization of Gaussian beam and determines the half-wave voltage. This paper takes WeChat official accounts as the object and uses logistic regression model to explore the influencing factors on sharing. After that, a prediction model is constructed based on logistic regression and support vector machine. The significance of this study is to propose the factors that influence WeChat official accounts’ articles sharing, and to construct a sharing prediction model

    Electro-optic coupling of wide wavelength range in linear chirped-periodically poled lithium niobate and its applications

    We theoretically investigate the electro-optic coupling in an optical superlattice of linear chirped-periodically poled lithium niobate. It is found that the electro-optic coupling in such optical superlattice can work in a wide wavelength range. Some of examples, with bandwidths of 20, 40, 80, 120nm, are demonstrated. The way to determine the electric field for perfect conversion between o- and e-ray and the method using apodized crystals of tanh profile to reduce the ripples are shown. As one of its applications, one kind of broadband Solc-type bandpass filter in optical communication range is proposed. (C) 2010 Optical Society of Americ

    Identification of wounding and topping responsive small RNAs in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum)

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>MicroRNAs (miRNAs) and short interfering RNAs (siRNAs) are two major classes of small RNAs. They play important regulatory roles in plants and animals by regulating transcription, stability and/or translation of target genes in a sequence-complementary dependent manner. Over 4,000 miRNAs and several classes of siRNAs have been identified in plants, but in tobacco only computational prediction has been performed and no tobacco-specific miRNA has been experimentally identified. Wounding is believed to induce defensive response in tobacco, but the mechanism responsible for this response is yet to be uncovered.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>To get insight into the role of small RNAs in damage-induced responses, we sequenced and analysed small RNA populations in roots and leaves from wounding or topping treated tobacco plants. In addition to confirmation of expression of 27 known miRNA families, we identified 59 novel tobacco-specific miRNA members of 38 families and a large number of loci generating phased 21- or 24-nt small RNAs (including ta-siRNAs). A number of miRNAs and phased small RNAs were found to be responsive to wounding or topping treatment. Targets of small RNAs were further surveyed by degradome sequencing.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The expression changes of miRNAs and phased small RNAs responsive to wounding or topping and identification of defense related targets for these small RNAs suggest that the inducible defense response in tobacco might be controlled by pathways involving small RNAs.</p
