Enhancing Supply Chain Resilience By Addressing The Achilles Heel Of Information Sharing

    Get PDF
The risks of information leakage associated with information sharing across supply chains are still not well-defined. It is clear that managerial approaches in mitigating such risks are needed. Therefore, this study demonstrates pathways to supply chain resilience derived from linkages of information leakage to information sharing effectiveness with mitigation approaches. It shows the information sharing effectiveness enables quick response to leakage by mitigation approaches and increase resilience, which might provide a competitive edge over their competitor across a supply chain. This study designed a sequential exploratory mixed method approach by combining qualitative and quantitative studies. First, purposeful sampling in a qualitative study was adopted involving semi-structured interviews with five cases of Malaysia Multinational Corporations predominantly in the manufacturing sector. Interviews with managers gain deeper insights into the risks of information leakage involved and developed appropriate mitigation strategies when sharing information with supply chain partners. The main study findings are synthesized into a theoretical framework that revealed organization ethical climate and information security culture are new useful approaches to mitigate the devastating consequences on information sharing effectiveness. Second, purposive sampling in a quantitative study was conducted to empirically verify the framework by using a questionnaire distributed to Malaysian MNCs, predominately in the manufacturing sector

Binary solvent extraction system and extraction time effects on phenolic antioxidants from kenaf seeds (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) extracted by a pulsed ultrasonic-assisted extraction

The aim of this study was to determine the best parameter for extracting phenolic-enriched kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) seeds by a pulsed ultrasonic-assisted extraction. The antioxidant activities of ultrasonic-assisted kenaf seed extracts (KSE) were determined by a 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging capacity assay, 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging assay, β-carotene bleaching inhibition assay, and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay. Total phenolic content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC) evaluations were carried out to determine the phenolic and flavonoid contents in KSE. The KSE from the best extraction parameter was then subjected to high performance l.quid chromatography (HPLC) to quantify the phenolic compounds. The optimised extraction condition employed 80% ethanol for 15 min, with the highest values determined for the DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP assay. KSE contained mainly tannic acid (2302.20 mg/100 g extract) and sinapic acid (1198.22 mg/100 g extract), which can be used as alternative antioxidants in the food industry

Human factors in information leakage: mitigation strategies for information sharing integrity

    Get PDF
Structured Abstract Purpose-The purpose of this paper is to explore the human factors triggering information leakage and investigate how companies mitigate insider threat for information sharing integrity. Design/methodology/approach-The methodology employed is multiple case studies approach with in-depth interviews with five Multinational Enterprises/Multinational Corporations. Findings-The findings reveal that information leakage can be approached with human governance mechanism such as organizational ethical climate and information security culture. Besides, higher frequency of leakages negatively affects information sharing integrity. Moreover, this paper also contributes to a research framework which could be a guide to overcome information leakage issue in information sharing. Research limitations/implications-The current study involved MNC/MNEs operating in Malaysia while companies in other countries may have different ethical climate and information sharing culture. Thus, for future research, it will be good to replicate the study in a larger geographic region to verify the findings and insights of this research. Practical implications-This research contributes to the industry and business that are striving towards solving the mounting problem of information leakage by raising awareness of human factors and to take appropriate mitigating governance strategies to preempt information leakage. This paper also contributes to a novel theoretical model that characterizes the iniquities of humans in sharing information, and suggests measures which could be a guide to avert disruptive leakages. Originality/value-This paper is likely an unprecedented research in moulding human governance in the domain of information sharing and its Achilles' heel which is information leakage

The influences of green product development (GPD) on green product development performance in Malaysia: The moderating role of green creativity

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was conducted to investigate the relationship between green product development and green product development performance with the green creativity as moderator. A total of 103 sets of questionnaire were distributed to available finn that related to green product development in Malaysia randomly. Data collection is done via the nonprobability sampling method. Based on this research, the results revealed that green dynamic capability and green product innovation are positively related to financial performance and competitive advantage. Besides, the results showed that green transfonnational leadership and green process innovation are not positively related to financial performance and competitive advantage. Last but not least, the results also revealed that green creativity is partially positive moderates the relationship between green product development and green product development performance. However, green creativity has direct positive impacts on financial performance and competitive advantage
