Comparison of Alternative Sowing Methods in Hungarian Vetch and Triticale Cultivation in Terms of Yield and Weed Biomass

    Get PDF
This study aimed to compare alternative sowing methods i.e., sole, mix and intercrops sown in alternative and perpendicular rows on the productivity of Hungarian vetch-triticale farming. Similarly, the effects of these sowing methods were also inferred on weed infestation. This study was conducted during the vegetation periods of 2018-19 and 2019-20 in terrestrial climate conditions. Sowing in perpendicular rows proved more effective in suppressing weed infestation than alternative rows and increased yield by reducing weed biomass. Sowing Hungarian vetch in mixed and perpendicular rows observed the highest weed infestation and biomass along with low green herbage and dry matter yield. However, Hungarian vetch-triticale mixture (50-50%) sowed in perpendicular rows made the best use of available land, resulted in the lowest weed infestation and biomass and recorded the highest green herbage and dry matter yield. In conclusion, the sowing Hungarian vetch-triticale mixture (50-50%) in perpendicular rows was the most suitable sowing method for improving productivity and suppressing weed infestation in Hungarian vetch-triticale intercropping

This study was conducted in order to reveal the effects of management skills of managers to organizational climate, according to the opinions of employees working in the Directorate of Youth Services and Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports. The sample group of the study comprises of 73 randomly chosen employees from five cities (Elazığ: 17 employees, Diyarbakır: 10 employees, Gümüşhane: 14 employees, Isparta: 18 employees and Kırklareli: 14 employees). In order to collect the data for the study, “Contributions of Perceived Management Skills of Managers to Organizational Climate Scale”, which was developed by Akar (2006), was adopted. The Scale form consists of 4 subscales and a total of 30 matters. These are “Job Centeredness”, “Tolerance”, “Close Control” and “Contempt”. In the data analysis, frequency and percentage calculations were used. In terms of the mean points on the scale, determinant statistics, normality analysis, and homogeneity results were examined. Due to the inability of the data to present a normal distribution, in independent pair group comparisons, Mann-Whitney U test of non-parametric tests was adopted while Kruskal-Wallis H test was adopted in multiple group comparisons. The statistical meaningfulness degree Alpha (α) error rate was adopted as p<0.05. The following results were obtained as a result of the mentioned tests: No statistically significant difference was observed according to the sample group’s variables of marital status and educational level. In the “Job Centeredness” subscale of the scale, meaningful differences were observed in the professional seniority (0.041<p) and service time (0.039<p). In the “Tolerance” subscale, meaningful differences were observed in the variables of gender (0.012<p) and professional seniority (0.045<p). Furthermore, in the “Contempt” subscale, meaningful differences were observed in the variable of the place of duty (0.015<p). Article visualizations

Aortocaval Fistula in a Behcet's Disease Patient

    Get PDF
Behcet's disease (BD) is a chronic, recurrent, systemic disease that is characterized by oral and genital ulcers and oculocutaneous inflammatory lesions. Cardiovascular involvement especially large artery involvement is a serious and vital complication of BD. Pseudoaneurysms in the major arteries may be the cause of sudden death in BD. In our case a pulsatile abdominal mass was determined to be an aortic pseudoaneurysm associated with BD and an aortocaval fistula. Here we report this case and a short review of literature because this is the first reported aortocaval fistula in a BD patient in English literature

Calcified fibrous pseudotumor with Castleman disease

    Get PDF
Simultaneous calcified fibrous pseudotumor (CFT) and Castleman disease (CD) is an extremely rare association. CD is an uncommon lymphoproliferative disease that can arise in various sites of the body, while CFT is a rare type of benign fibrous lesion that frequently affects children and young adults, occurring as solitary or multiple lesions throughout the human body. Both entities are rare and exhibit typical and diverse histomorphological features. We report the case of a 15-year-old female patient, who, at the age of 13 had a biopsy performed at an external medical center; however, after 4 months the lesion had regrown. This lesion was removed with a surgical operation; however, it regrew 2 years later and was removed a third time. The results of the latter two biopsies were the same: CFT accompanying CD. The histologic examination of the excised lymph node and the surrounding tissue showed hyalinized fibrous tissue containing dystrophic and psammomatous calcification. In this case, the hyaline vascular type of CD was found to be intertwined with a CFT, which hampered the differentiation of whether both entities emerged within the lymph node or if the CFT developed from the soft tissue and then involved the lymph node. Future studies involving larger case series will provide a more precise insight, which should serve to resolve the current uncertaint

Giant size abdominal aortic aneurysm repair using open proximal anastomosis under hypothermic circulatory arrest: A report of two cases

    Get PDF
Hypothermic total circulatory arrest and open proximal anastomosis techniques are not commonly used in abdominal or juxtarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. Proximal aortic clamping is usually adequate for surgical repair of abdominal aortic pathologies. We present two cases of giant-sized abdominal aortic aneurysms, one was juxtarenal and one was a Crawford type IV thoracoabdominal aneurysm, that were repaired by using open proximal anastomosis under hypothermic total circulatory arrest and a transabdominal approach. This technique may be useful for both thoracoabdominal and large abdominal aortic aneurysms because it offers the opportunity to not clamp the aorta and operate in bloodless surgical field

Abstract

Objective

To describe aspects of the natural history and pathophysiology of coronary arteriovenous fistula and to propose potential treatment strategies.

Methods

Eleven adult patients were treated surgically for coronary arteriovenous fistulas (8 male, 3 female) during the last three years. Mean age was 48,7 ± 9,5 years (range 32-65 years). Diagnosis was made by coronary angiography and transesophageal echocardiography

Results

All patients were symptomatic due to the associating cardiac disorder or fistula. Presenting symptoms were chest pain, exertional dyspnea and palpitation. All patients were diagnosed by selective angiography. Transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography was performed to identify the Qp/Qs ratio in one patient. One patient who had an LAD to pulmonary artery coronary arteriovenous fistula with a vascular malformation needed early reoperation due to recurrence of the fistula. Echocardiographic evaluation at the postoperative third month revealed no residual shunts in all patients.

Conclusion

Because of the severe complications that may develop due to coronary arteriovenous fistula, we believe that every coronary artery fistula should be treated invasively by surgery or transcatheter closure. But both treatment modalities still need to be evaluated with randomized multicenter studies for long term survival and effectiveness.</p

Histopatolojik olarak olguların 15 (%68)’i nöroblastom, 4’ü (%18.5) wilms tümörü, 1’i (%4.5) embriyonal rabdomyosarkom, 1’i (%4.5) berrak hücreli sarkom, 1’i (%4.5) malign sinir kılıfı tümörü olarak değerlendirildi. Tanı anında olguların 8’i (%36) evre I, 7’si (%32) Evre III, 7’si (%32) evre IV safhasındaydı. Objective: In this study, Selcuk University Faculty of Medicine between 2011 - 2013 follow-up at the Department of Pediatric Oncology and Pediatric Surgery clinic was operated by a total of 22 patients with retroperitoneal tumors were evaluated retrospectively . Patients and Method: Retroperitoneal tumors were evaluated retrospectively during 2011-2013. The cases treated with primary retroperitoneal tumor, surgical treatment without other distant organ metastasis were included in the study. The files of the cases were primary diagnosis in terms of age, sex, tumor stage at the time of diagnosis, surgical treatment method, pathological diagnosis and follow-up reviewed retrospectively. Results: 9 out of 22 cases (40%) male and 13 (60%) were female. Male mean age of 71 months ( 3-132 ) in the girls 37 months ( 6-204 ) . The histological results, 15 (68%) of neuroblastoma , 4 (18.5%) Wilms, 1 (4.5% ) Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma , 1 (4.5% ) Clear cell sarcoma , 1 (4.5% ) malignant nerve sheath tumors were evaluated . Eight of the cases (36%) were stage I, 7 (32%) were stage III, 7 (32%) stage IV. Conclusion: In conclusion, 68% of our cases were neuroblastoma and 64% of the patients were stage III and stage IV at the time of diagnosis. Retroperitoneal tumors are generally diagnosed in advanced stages. We think that this is due to the anatomical localizations and the silent as far as the clinically advanced stage

Combined Effects of Tauroursodeoxycholic Acid and Glutamine on Bacterial Translocation in Obstructive Jaundiced Rats:

    Get PDF
Background: Bacterial Translocation is believed to be an important factor on mortality and morbidity in Obstructive Jaundiced. .Aims: We investigated the probable or estimated positive effects of tauroursodeoxycholic acid, which has antibacterial and regulatory effects on intestinal flora, together with glutamine on BT in an experimental obstructive jaundiced rat model. Study Design:Animal experimentation. Methods: Forty adult, male, Sprague Dawley rats were used in this study. Animals were randomised and divided into five groups of eight each: sham (Sh); control (common bile duct ligation, CBDL); and supplementation groups administered tauroursodeoxycholic acid (CBDL+T), glutamine (CBDL+G), or tauroursodeoxycholic acid plus glutamine (CBDL+TG). Blood and liver, spleen, MLN, and ileal samples were taken via laparotomy under sterile conditions for investigation of bacterial translocation and intestinal mucosal integrity and hepatic function tests on the tenth postoperative day. Results: There were statistically significant differences in BT rates in all samples except the spleen of the CBDL+TG group compared with the CBDL group (p=0.041, p=0.026, and p=0.041, respectively). Conclusion: It is essential to protect hepatic functions besides maintaining intestinal mucosal integrity in the active struggle against BT occurring in obstructive jaundice. The positive effect on intestinal mucosal integrity can be increased if glutamine is used with tauroursodeoxycholic acid, which also has hepatoprotective and immunomodulatory features

Massive cutaneous fistula secondary to an odontogenic submandibular abcess in an immunocompromised patient: a case report

Extraoral sinus tracts of dental origin often are a diagnostic challenge. A delay in correctly diagnosing these types of lesions can result in ineffective and inappropriate treatment. A 64 year-old immunocompromised female with a huge cutaneous draining tract was referred to our clinic complaining of a purulent discharge from her skin on her right submandibular area. In clinical examination and radiographic assessment, periapical lesion associated with roots of lower right first molar was noticed. According to the patient history, she had kidney transplantation 17 years ago. Following the identification of the source of infection, it was surgically and medically resolved, and skin closure was performed. Her postoperative healing period was supported with hyperbaric oxygen therapy as well. Sinus tract was successfully treated
