    Probing chirality structure in lepton-flavour-violating Higgs decay hτμh\to\tau\mu at the LHC

    A phenomenological study for determining the chirality structure in lepton-flavour-violating Higgs (hLFV) decays hτμh \to \tau\mu at the LHC is presented. We estimate the effects of the τ\tau polarization in the analysis andthe importance of determining the relative visible momentum ratio xx, and show the analysis with a collinear mass mcol1m_{col1} by assuming one missing particle is appropriate. We find that the sensitivity would be generically affected up to ±\pm 4-6 % in terms of the BR(hτμ)(h\to \tau\mu) upper bound, and show the altered bounds on the (yμτ,yτμ)(|y_{\mu\tau}|, |y_{\tau\mu}|) plane. We further study the benchmark scenarios, and demonstrate the sensitivity study for the chirality structure using the relative visible momentum ratio. We find that the two fully polarized cases, the τR\tau_R and τL\tau_L scenarios consistent with the recently reported excess, are distinguishable at 2σ\sigma level for 1000 fb1^{-1}. We also show that a further improved study potentially provides a similar sensitivity already for 139 fb1^{-1}.Comment: 27 pages, 8 figures and 5 table

    Learning Support Volunteer Students' Learning in Volunteer Activities : A Comparison of Psychology Students and Education Students

    本研究は,学習支援ボランティアに参加している大学生・大学院生の所属や専攻によって,ニーズの違いがあるのかを明らかにすることを目的とし,学習支援ボランティアの大学生・大学院生の内,心理学履修学生と教職課程履修学生にそれぞれ半構造化面接を実施し,両者の比較検討を行った。その結果,心理学履修学生は,臨床心理士になるため,スクールカウンセラーになるため,教職課程履修学生は,教師になるために学習支援ボランティア活動を行っていた。児童・生徒への対応や気づきなどについても両者に違いが見られた。今後,履修の違いに基づき,学習支援ボランティア活動への指導を行っていくことを検討する必要がある。The purpose of this study is to clarify if there are differences in needs depending on the affiliation and specialty among undergraduate students and graduate students, both participating as learning support volunteers. As a method, we used semi-structured interviews for psychology students and education students who were acting as learning support volunteers. In the survey, we asked what they felt about the teachers and what they got from the learning support volunteer activities. Next, we conducted a comparative study of both. The result was as follows: psychology students became clinical psychologists and school counselors, while education students engaged in learning support volunteer activities to become teachers. There was a difference between the two groups. As for the future, it seems necessary to give students some guidance concerning the learning support volunteer activities based on the differences in the course

    Neuromedin U-deficient rats do not lose body weight or food intake

    Studies in genetically modified mice establish that essential roles of endogenous neuromedin U (NMU) are anorexigenic function and metabolic regulation, indicating that NMU is expected to be a potential target for anti-obesity agents. However, in central administration experiments in rats, inconsistent results have been obtained, and the essential role of NMU energy metabolism in rats remain unclear. This study aims to elucidate the role of endogenous NMU in rats. We generated NMU knockout (KO) rats that unexpectedly showed no difference in body weight, adiposity, circulating metabolic markers, body temperature, locomotor activity, and food consumption in both normal and high fat chow feeding. Furthermore, unlike reported in mice, expressions of Nmu and NMU receptor type 2 (Nmur2) mRNA were hardly detectable in the rat hypothalamic nuclei regulating feeding and energy metabolism, including the arcuate nucleus and paraventricular nucleus, while Nmu was expressed in pars tuberalis and Nmur2 was expressed in the ependymal cell layer of the third ventricle. These results indicate that the species-specific expression pattern of Nmu and Nmur2 may allow NMU to have distinct functions across species, and that endogenous NMU does not function as an anorexigenic hormone in rats

    Difference of signal change by a language task on autistic patients using functional MRI

    [Objective] Cerebral function with a language task was evaluated by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), and the differences of activated pattern and signal changes were compared between autistic patients and normal controls. [Methods] Ten autistic and ten normal subjects were tested by fMRI with a language task requiring the attribution of complex mental states. Activation maps analyzed between two groups were generated and the asymmetry indexes calculated by the quotient of activated pixels of the right frontal lobe divided by those of the left frontal lobe were statistically compared by unpaired t-test. [Results] Both the autistic and the normal subjects showed activation at the bilateral prefrontal cortical areas and the ventral occipito-temporal regions. However, the autistic patients demonstrated more activation at the right frontal lobe than the normal controls. Thus it was considered that in the autistic patients the right-hemisphere was more dominant for the language task than that of the normal controls. The result is consist to the theory that autism is related to early left-hemisphere dysfunction. [Conclusions] We considered that fMRI may be a useful non-invasive method to evaluate the cerebral functional abnormality in autistic patients

    Regulated motion of glycoproteins revealed by direct visualization of a single cargo in the endoplasmic reticulum

    The quality of cargo proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is affected by their motion during folding. To understand how the diffusion of secretory cargo proteins is regulated in the ER, we directly analyze the motion of a single cargo molecule using fluorescence imaging/fluctuation analyses. We find that the addition of two N-glycans onto the cargo dramatically alters their diffusion by transient binding to membrane components that are confined by hyperosmolarity. Via simultaneous observation of a single cargo and ER exit sites (ERESs), we could exclude ERESs as the binding sites. Remarkably, actin cytoskeleton was required for the transient binding. These results provide a molecular basis for hypertonicity-induced immobilization of cargo, which is dependent on glycosylation at multiple sites but not the completion of proper folding. We propose that diffusion of secretory glycoproteins in the ER lumen is controlled from the cytoplasm to reduce the chances of aggregation

    We described our imaging protocol for apoplexy to select a therapeutic way. The recent advance of MR technology much contributes to diagnosis of cerebral ischemic disease. Especially the EPI method is now applied to clinical MR machine and make possible to obtain diffusion-weighted images (DWI) with excellent quality, which can detect super-acute phase of cerebral infarction. Then we choose MRI as the first modality conducted for patients of apoplexy and measured DWI and perfusion MRI before conducting conventional cerebral angiography. The mismatch area between DWI and perfusion MRI will suggest the necessity of re-circulation therapy because rescuable neuronal cells from ischemia will exist in the mismatch area. Furthermore cerebral hemorrhage can be detected using EPI-T2 weighted images and DWI, and the luxury perfusion will be also evaluated by perfusion MRI. Therefore we considered that MR examination could be the first modality conducted for diagnosis of cerebral vascular accident of acute phase
