Analysis of Standard Error of Measurement (SEM) of 2019 West African Senior School Certificate Examination Multiple-Choice Objective Tests in Economics

This study analyzed the Standard Error of Measurement (SEM) of 2019 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination Multiple-choice Objective Tests in Economics at three different confidence Interval (CI). A quantitative research design of the descriptive type was adopted for the study. The sample of the study was Three hundred and Two (302) Senior Secondary School Three (SSS.3) students that offered Economics selected from twelve (12) schools in the three senatorial districts in Osun State, Nigeria and Multi-stage sampling technique was adopted in this study. 2019 May/June and Nov/Dec (GCE/WASSCE) Multiple-Choice Objective Tests in Economics were adopted as instruments for the study. Data collected were analyzed using Descriptive statistics. The findings of this study revealed that the performance of students in WASSCE May/June Economics Multiple choice objective test of 2019 flagged the SEM of 4 (+ or -4). Also, the performance of students in 2019 GCE WASSCE Economics Multiple-choice objective test flagged the SEM of 12 (+ or - 12) both at 68% confidence interval. It was concluded that 2019 May/June WASSCE Economics Multiple-choice objective test is more precise, reliable and correct than 2019 GCE WASSCE Economics Multiple-choice objective test at all the confidence intervals. The study recommended that educators should consider the magnitude of SEMs for students across the achievement distribution. Inheritance of resistance to blackeye cowpea mosaic and cowpea aphid-borne mosaic viruses in Phaseolus vulgaris

In populations from crosses of resistant and susceptible plants of the bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) cultivar Black Turtle Soup, resistance to blackeye cowpea mosaic virus (BICMV) and to cowpea aphidborne mosaic virus (CAbMV) was conferred independently by single dominant factors that appear to be closely linked. The symbol Bcm was assigned to the gene for BICMV resistance and Cam to that for CAbMV. Linkage was determined by separately inoculating plants of the testeross with both viruses on different leaves. Since BICMV and CAbMV Incite identical symptoms, but do not cross protect against each other, their presence in each susceptible plant was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). This detection method was highly specific because the two viruses are distantly related serologically. ASSESSING INFORMATION-SEEKING BEHAVIOUR OF VISUALLY IMPAIRED STUDENTS USING WILSON’S MODEL OF INFORMATION BEHAVIOUR IN FEDERAL COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (SPECIAL), OYO

This study investigated the information-seekingbehaviourof visually impaired students using Wilson’s model of information behaviour in Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, with a focus on assessing information needs, adequacy, and satisfaction of the visually impaired students. The study established that the information needs of visually impaired students include educational opportunities, information on personal development, the procedure for performing skills, and information on housekeeping and households. It was also established that preference for Braille has been on the decline in favour of talking book/audio recordings among the young in many countries. Visually impaired users\u27 preference includes e-newspaper and magazine, e-book, interpersonal information sources, audio information material, internet resources, etc. Poor attitude of library staff to visually impaired, the little number of documents in Braille/audio, lack of computer with screen reader software, difficulty in listening to materials which were transcribed from print to audio form were some of the challenges faced by visually impaired students in using the library

Community Based Fishery Management: A Case Study Of Acadja Method Of Fishing On The Badagry Creek, Ogun State, Nigeria

The objective of the study was to elucidate and analyze key conditions for communal acadja system on the Badagry creek in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State. A sample size of 120 respondents was used for the study. Data were collected with structured questionnaires and analysed with the use of descriptive statistics such as means and percentages. The study revealed that most (86.9%) of the respondents were fully involved in the communal acadja with only 9% of them participated primarily for income generation while the larger percentage of the respondents involved for subsistence. It was observed that the fishers have some degree of tenure on the area of installation because of traditional regulatory mechanism in place. However, some constraints faced by the fishers as a result of implantation of acadjas include abandon of certain fishing gears, changing of fishing grounds, small fishing grounds and destruction of fishing gears. It was therefore recommended that acadja systems should be planned and implanted in the context of multiple uses of water body that integrated acadja systems with fishing and migration. Perception and Awareness of Preventive Practices Against Breast Cancer Among Women in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria

The prevalence of breast cancer which is the second deadly disease in the world, has affected the peace of women as the vulnerable group in the society, thus has attracting more global and scholarly attention. While researches have focused largely on the symptoms and consequences of breast cancer among women, few have focused on women’s perception and awareness about the preventive practices of this disease especially in Oyo state. This forms the focus of this paper. Marxist feminist theory formed the framework of the study. A descriptive survey was conducted among 400 women selected from two local governments in Ibadan through multi stage sampling. Ten in-depth interviews were also conducted among women. Quantitative data was analyzed using inferential statistics such as percentages and chi-square, while the qualitative data were content analyzed. The study revealed that women’s perception of breast cancer was based on poor knowledge and the ‘belief’ that breast cancer is not only caused by supernatural forces but can be cured by it (God/gods) even without medical intervention. Eighty-three (83) percent were aware of breast self-examination, 66% were aware of clinical breast examination and 28% of mammography. However,  awareness about other preventive practices like exercise, avoidance of alcohol intake, weight loss and diet was low and awareness was significantly related to women’s level of education with X2=44.0, P = 0.00. There is need for awareness programs and health education on breast cancer to reduce the myth about breast cancer and encourage early detection and treatment of this deadly disease. Seismic driven reservoir characterization, offshore Niger Delta, Nigeria

This paper presents the subsurface characterization by applying integrated three dimensional seismic attributes analysis on a 3D seismic dataset from OPO field, within the western Niger Delta basin. The volume attributes aimed at extracting features associated with hydrocarbon presence detection, net pay evaluation and porosity estimation for optima reservoir characterization. Neural network (NN) derived chimney properties prediction attribute was used to evaluate the integrity of the delineated structural traps. Common contour binning was employed for hydrocarbon prospect evaluation, while the Seismic coloured inversion was also applied for net pay evaluation. Amplitude anomalies were used to delineate bright spots and flat spots; good reservoirs in term of their porosity models, and fluid content and contacts (GOC & OWC) were identified in the area through common contour binning, seismic colour inversion and supervised NN classification
