Supervised Machine Learning for Signals Having RRC Shaped Pulses

Classification performances of the supervised machine learning techniques such as support vector machines, neural networks and logistic regression are compared for modulation recognition purposes. The simple and robust features are used to distinguish continuous-phase FSK from QAM-PSK signals. Signals having root-raised-cosine shaped pulses are simulated in extreme noisy conditions having joint impurities of block fading, lack of symbol and sampling synchronization, carrier offset, and additive white Gaussian noise. The features are based on sample mean and sample variance of the imaginary part of the product of two consecutive complex signal values.Comment: 5 page

Institutional repositories for higher educational institutions: A new opportunity for Academic Libraries

    Get PDF
Digital information created for pedagogical and research purposes is gaining traction, and there is a growing interest within academic institutions to gather, archive, and provide value-added services based on this content. The term institutional repository refers to a novel system for storing and sharing digital academic works produced by students and teachers at different educational institutions. It was conceived as a solution to the issues plaguing the present model of scholarly communication, which is dominated by for-profit journal publishers and suppliers. Libraries will need to hire librarians with knowledge of digital collection management and the Open Archive Information System (OAIS) to ensure the successful implementation of these repositories. Some of the new responsibilities for libraries include teaching students and teachers how to use OAIS, assisting them in the creation of digital products, incorporating them into the formulation of institutional policy, and establishing objectives for institutional repositories

Novel Current-Conveyor-Based Universal Current-Mode Biquad Filter with Three Inputs and One Output

    Get PDF
A novel universal current-mode filter with three inputs and one high imedance output is presented. The proposed circuit uses four plus-type second-generation current-conveyors, grounded resistors and grounded capacitors. The proposed circuit enjoys low active and passive sensitivities and independent control of the parameters ω0/Q0 using grounded resistors

Medical images protection and authentication using hybrid DWT-DCT and SHA256-MD5 hash functions

© 2017 IEEE. This paper deals with a blind digital watermarking technique for the ownership protection and content authentication of X-ray and MRI medical images. Extreme care is required before embedding watermarking information in medical images, to protect the image quality to avoid the wrong diagnosis. The proposed watermarking technique contains a robust watermark for the ownership protection and fragile watermarks for the content authentication. In the watermarking technique, the medical image is divided into regions and the watermark information is embedded in both the transform domain and the spatial domain. The proposed watermarking technique was successfully tested on a variety of X-ray and MRI medical images and offered high peak signal to noise ratios, similarity structure index measure values and wavelet domain signal to noise rations

Background and objectives: Breast cancer appears to be becoming more common worldwide. It is the most common type of cancer in women in the Middle East and the Western countries. Patients with breast cancer are at a high risk of developing psychological problems such as anxiety and depression.  This study aimed to evaluate the severity of anxiety and depression levels in breast cancer patients and their risk factors for breast cancer. Methods: A quantitative descriptive study design was conducted at Rizgary Teaching Hospital and Nanakali Oncology Hospital in Erbil City in the Kurdistan Region of  Iraq from 1st September 2020 to 5th August 2021. The duration of data collection was four months and purposive sampling was used to select 298 patients who were admitted to both hospitals. A questionnaire format was used to gather the data, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) standardized questionnaire was utilized to measure the level of anxiety and depression. Results: The average age of the patients was 45.28±9.17 years, 80.5% were married, 60.7% of the studied sample had a low socioeconomic status. Almost a third (30.5%) of the participants had severe anxiety and 60.4% had severe depression. Concerning the risk factors of breast cancer, 82.2% of patients were obese, 91.9% did not do exercise, 35.6% had breast cancer family history, 93.6% were non-smoker, and 6.4% of them were smokers. Conclusion: According to the findings, the majority of breast cancer patients suffer from anxiety and depression, and obesity is one of the risk factors for breast cancer

The nosocomial infection Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) can infect both healthcare workers and patients and have an impact on the standard of treatment offered in hospitals.  The study aims to Identify the relations between the attitudes, and commitment of healthcare workers to prevent methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) and sociodemographic characteristics. A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out for 362 healthcare workers randomly chosen from four hospitals and distributed as follows: 125 from Nasiriyah Teaching Hospital, 80 from Al-Hussein Teaching Hospital, 80 from Al-Haboubi Teaching Hospital and 77 from Souk Al-Shuyoukh General Hospital Between October 1, 2022, to  May 1, 2023, and data was collected using a self-report paper-based questionnaire. Our findings indicated that 75.1% of the participants have neutral attitudes concerning MRSA infection. The relationships between attitudes and age, education, marital status, job title, and years of service were statistically significant (P <0.05). Healthcare workers' commitment were generally moderated. The participant's commitment to MRSA infection prevention was significantly correlated (P <0.05) with their age, education level, job title, and shift time. So we can conclude that Healthcare workers' attitudes toward the prevention of MRSA infection were neutral while Healthcare workers' commitment to preventing MRSA infection was poor. The study recommended Providing appropriate health facilities and personal protective equipment, Searching for the reasons behind non-compliance of HCWs, and Continual surveillance by medical institution authorities to protect healthcare workers against MRSA infection

The role of formal characteristics in harmony townscape

this research deals with how to deal with the formal elements constituting the urban scene and its formal characteristics to achieve the phenomenon of harmony in urban centers through the construction ofan integrated theoretical model for the phenomenon of ( harmony ) , it is determined through the basics and fundamentals of harmony and the main factors that depend on it and finding the values the formal characteristics of harmony and the degrees of harmony, and according to this perspective have been identified ,the major problem of the research is: the lack of clarity of the role of the formal characteristics of the elements of the formal components of the elevation in achieving harmony in townscape, so the goal of research is to: building theoretical framework for the phenomenon of harmony in the townscape in its comprehensive concept, and the most important results of the research to build a clear structure based on an inclusive concept of all factors and vocabulary influencing the phenomenon, the phenomenon of harmony is represented with the total characteristics of the formal elements of townscape at thelevel of the part and the whole, Each elementdepends on the total variables affecting them. Key words : Harmony , Townscape ,The holy city of Najaf , formal characteristic
