The Relationship between Bitcoin and Nasdaq, U.S. Dollar Index and Commodities

    Get PDF
This paper investigates the long-run interaction between Bitcoin and Nasdaq, U.S. Dollar Index and commodities by applying weekly data from 1 January 2017 until 21 May 2023. This study uses FMOLS, DOLS and CCR methods to examine the long-run association between the variables. The results reveal a positive and significant relationship between Bitcoin and Nasdaq, as well as a similar positive association between Bitcoin and Oil prices. Notably, the U.S. Dollar Index exhibits a negative and significant impact on Bitcoin. However, results show that Gold does not have significant impact on Bitcoin. Finally, the results show that there are significant Granger causality from Nasdaq, oil and gold to Bitcoin

    Medical Informatics and Explainable AI

    No full text
Abstract During this brief introductory talk, the main goal will be to visit some of the recent applications of Machine Learning models and Artificial Intelligence systems in Medical Research and Medical Applications. The talk will show and discuss some of the common trends, known and possible pitfalls and open questions still existing when discussing Medical Informatics and Explainable AI. Additionally, the projects at CERN openlab in the field of Medical Informatics will be introduced and the talk will be followed up by more in-depth talk focusing on one of such projects, namely BioDynaMo, given by Lukas Breitwieser. Bio Taghi Aliyev is currently doing a joint PhD between Maastricht University, CERN openlab and King's College London on the topic of "Extending AI above its limits: Known Unknowns". His research and application areas mostly focus on the medical informatics use cases. At CERN he has worked on the collaborative projects with UNOSAT Satellite Agency and some other organizations. His background is in Artificial Intelligence, Mathematical Optimization and Machine Learning.</p

A Multi-Science Data Analysis Platform and the GeneROOT Use Case

    No full text
This talk will cover two areas of current research in the context of knowledge sharing between CERN openlab and the life science communities. The first area covers the development and prototyping of a multi-science data analysis platform build up around CERN developed technologies like, Zenodo, REANA and CVMFS. When finished this platform will support a complete data analysis life-cycle from data discovery, to data access, to data processing to end-user data analysis. The second area covers a specific use case, where HEP specific software like ROOT is used to store and process genomics data sequences. There are a number of handcrafted genomics data formats being used, like FASTQ, SAM, BAM, CRAM, etc. They range from pure ASCII to compressed binary formats. We will compare the features of these formats with the generic capabilities of ROOT’s TTree containers. Also we will show performance numbers of typical analysis scenarios

BBiCat: Alpha version of a Java implementation of BBiCAT project

    No full text
<p>This is the Java implementation of a research project on modelling and analysis of complex systems. Release contains Local implementation of the BiMax algorithm, refactored code of BiCat toolbox, Bayesian post-analysis which uses NCI Curated Pathways database, possibilities of calling R script from Java code, Parser that maps illumina names to HGNC Symbols and usage cases of all the above mentioned. Also, a class that can read and process bigger datasets with which BiCat GUI had a trouble. Also, Mean Squared Residue Score implementation is included in the bicluster class to have a numeric metric for assessment as well.</p> <p> </p> <p>Please visit http://www.tik.ethz.ch/sop/bicat/?page=licensingAgree.php in order to obtain the native libraries used for the project</p

High-Density Lipoproteins Exert Pro-inflammatory Effects on Macrophages via Passive Cholesterol Depletion and PKC-NF-kappa B/STAT1-IRF1 Signaling

International audienceMembrane cholesterol modulates a variety of cell signaling pathways and functions. While cholesterol depletion by high-density lipoproteins (HDLs) has potent anti-inflammatory effects in various cell types, its effects on inflammatory responses in macrophages remain elusive. Here we show overt pro-inflammatory effects of HDL-mediated passive cholesterol depletion and lipid raft disruption in murine and human primary macrophages in vitro. These pro-inflammatory effects were confirmed in vivo in peritoneal macrophages from apoA-I transgenic mice, which have elevated HDL levels. In line with these findings, the innate immune responses required for clearance of P. aeruginosa bacterial infection in lung were compromised in mice with low HDL levels. Expression analysis, ChIP-PCR, and combinatorial pharmacological and genetic intervention studies unveiled that both native and reconstituted HDL enhance Toll-like-receptor-induced signaling by activating a PKC-NF-kappa B/STAT1-IRF1 axis, leading to increased inflammatory cytokine expression. HDL's pro-inflammatory activity supports proper functioning of macrophage immune responses
