Coherent emission from disordered arrays of driven Josephson vortices
We propose a mechanism of coherent emission from driven vortices in stacked
intrinsic Josephson junctions. In contrast to super-radiance, which occurs only
for highly ordered vortex lattices, we predict resonant radiation emission from
weakly correlated vortex arrays. Our analytical results for the THz wave
intensity, resonance frequencies, and the dependence of THz emission power on
dissipation are in good agreement with the ones obtained by recent simulations.Comment: 2 figure
Generation of tunable Terahertz out-of-plane radiation using Josephson vortices in modulated layered superconductors
We show that a moving Josephson vortex in spatially modulated layered
superconductors generates out-of-plane THz radiation. Remarkably, the magnetic
and in-plane electric fields radiated are of the same order, which is very
unusual for any good-conducting medium. Therefore, the out-of-plane radiation
can be emitted to the vacuum without the standard impedance mismatch problem.
Thus, the proposed design can be more efficient for tunable THz emitters than
previous proposals, for radiation only propagating along the ab-plane.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure. Phys. Rev. B (2005), in pres
Field-induced magnetic ordering in the Haldane system PbNi2V2O8
The Haldane system PbNi2V2O8 was investigated by the temperature dependent
magnetization M(T) measurements at fields higher than H_c, with H_c the
critical fields necessary to close the Haldane gap. It is revealed that M(T)
for H > H_c exhibits a cusp-like minimum at T_{min}, below which M(T) increases
with decreasing T having a convex curve. These features have been observed for
both and , with c-axis being parallel to the chain.
These data indicate the occurrence of field-induced magnetic ordering around
T_{min}. Phase boundaries for and do not cross each
other, consistent with the theoretical calculation for negative single-ion
anisotropy D.Comment: 3 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
Singlet Ground State and Magnetization Plateaus in BaMnO
Magnetic susceptibility and the magnetization process have been measured in
\green polycrystal. In this compound, the magnetic manganese ion exists as
Mn in a tetrahedral environment, and thus the magnetic interaction can
be described by an S=1 Heisenberg model. The ground state was found to be a
spin singlet with an excitation gap K. Magnetization
plateaus were observed at zero and at half of the saturation magnetization.
These results indicate that the present system can be represented by a coupled
antiferromagnetic dimer model.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, jpsj styl
Observation of Field-Induced Transverse N\'{e}el Ordering in the Spin Gap System TlCuCl
Neutron elastic scattering experiments have been performed on the spin gap
system TlCuCl in magnetic fields parallel to the -axis. The magnetic
Bragg peaks which indicate the field-induced N\'{e}el ordering were observed
for magnetic field higher than the gap field T at with odd in the plane. The spin structure in the ordered
phase was determined. The temperature and field dependence of the Bragg peak
intensities and the phase boundary obtained were discussed in connection with a
recent theory which describes the field-induced N\'{e}el ordering as a
Bose-Einstein condensation of magnons.Comment: 4 pages, 5 eps figures, jpsj styl
Collective Dynamics of Josephson Vortices in Intrinsic Josephson Junctions :Exploration of In-phase Locked Superradiant Vortex Flow States
In order to clarify the ``superradiant'' conditions for the moving Josephson
vortices to excite in-phase AC electromagnetic fields over all junctions, we
perform large scale simulations of realistic dimensions for intrinsic Josephson
junctions under the layer parallel magnetic field. Three clear step-like
structures in the I-V curve are observed above a certain high field (
in the present simulations), at which we find structural transitions in the
moving flux-line lattice. The Josephson vortex flow states are accordingly
classified into four regions (region I IV with increasing current), in
each of which the power spectrum for the electric field oscillations at the
sample edge are measured and typical snapshots for Josephson vortex
configurations are displayed. Among the four regions, especially in the region
III, an in-phase rectangular vortex lattice flow state emerges and the power
spectrum shows remarkably sharp peak structure, i.e., superradiant state.
Comparison of the simulation results with an eigenmode analysis for the
transverse propagating Josephson plasma oscillations reveals that the
resonances between Josephson vortex flow states and some of the eigenmodes are
responsible for the clear flux lattice structural transitions. Furthermore, the
theoretical analysis clarifies that the width of the superradiant state region
in the I-V characteristics enlarges with decreasing both the superconducting
and insulating layer thickness.Comment: 8 pages, Revtex, 7 figures; figure arrangements improved. no changes

Specific Heat Study of an S=1/2 Alternating Heisenberg Chain System F_5PNN Under Magnetic Field
We have measured the specific heat of an S=1/2 antiferromagnetic alternating
Heisenberg chain pentafulorophenyl nitronyl nitroxide under magnetic fields up
to H>H_C2. This compound has the field-induced magnetic ordered (FIMO) phase
between H_C1 and H_C2. Characteristic behaviors are observed depending on the
magnetic field up to above H_C2 outside of the H-T boundary for the FIMO.
Temperature and field dependence of the specific heat are qualitatively in good
agreement with the theoretical calculation on an S=1/2 two-leg ladder. [Wang et
al. Phys. Rev. Lett 84 5399 (2000)] This agreement suggests that the observed
behaviors are related with the low-energy excitation in the Tomonaga-Luttinger
liquid.Comment: 4pages, 4figures, replaced with revised version accepted to Physical
