Introduction: Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a permanent and complex disability arising within the first three years of life characterized by a socio-communicative disorder and by fixed interests and repetitive behaviors. The present pilot study aims to evaluate behavioral aspects in a small population of siblings of ASD children. Material and methods: Population: 5 school-aged children (2 males, 3 females) (mean age 9.235 ± 2.041) were enrolled, as siblings of ASD children, and for comparison, 12 healthy (7 males, 5 females) children (average age 9,528 ± 3,351). All subjects underwent evaluation of the behavioral with Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) scale. Results: The two groups were statistically comparable by age (p = 0.86) and gender distribution (p = 0.87). From the behavioral point of view evaluated with the CBCL scale, siblings of ASD have a higher degree of overall problem (Total problems) compared to control children (p=0.003), in addition they have significantly higher scores in the subscales of behavior examined (Anxious/Depressed, Withdrawn, Somatic Complaints, Social, Thought, Attention, Delinquent, Aggressive) as well as a greater share of disturbances both internalizing (p=0.004) and externalizing (p = 0.007) (Table 1). Conclusions: The present preliminary data confirm the need for a global management of the entire family structure for the correct management of Autistic Disorders

The addictions substance free is an umbrella definition comprises internet addiction, sexual addiction, gambling pathological, workholism, videogames and computer addiction. Actually, the technological addictions is frequent in young adolescents. The term Digital Natives indicates the children born in an information system of learning and communication different from that of the generations previous. This temporal range was strongly characterized by growing presence of technological communication toolsin daily life. The effects of hyper-exposition to technological tools tend to create a relational virtuality without a body is born, therefore, already within the family ties and during adolescence he moved to the digital socialization network. The technological object it interacts between the adolescent and the world of peers and adults, becoming the facilitator object that as the psychotropic substance, it conveys new modes of communicatio

Lo scrigno delle parole. Una proposta di educazione plurilingue per la formazione dei futuri educatori

    No full text
The paper presents a pedagogical reflection on the generative and transformative power of words, valorizing language education as education for originality, according to Giuseppe Lombardo Radice and Tullio De Mauro’s perspective. The main research and most significant documents produced by the European Union over the last 15 years to promote plurilingualism are presented in the second part. The third section of the paper describes a training workshop experience with students from the Educational Sciences course at the University of Catania that was inspired by the European Vocabulary and the personal adoptive language.L’articolo propone una riflessione pedagogica sul potere generativo e tras-formativo della parola, per la valorizzazione di un’educazione linguistica intesa come educazione all’originalità, secondo la lectio di Giuseppe Lombardo Radice e di Tullio De Mauro.

Perioperative intra- and extravascular volume in liver transplant recipients.

Assessing adequate volemia to avoid fluid overload and pulmonary edema perioperatively in liver transplantation (LT) is a challenge both for the anesthetist and the intensivist. Volumetric preload indices, such as intrathoracic blood volume index (ITBVI), measured by transpulmo- nary thermodilution, and continuous end-diastolic volume index (EDVI), measured by pulmonary artery thermodilution, were shown to better reflect preload than central venous pressure (CVP) or pulmonary artery occlusion pressure (PAOP). An ITBVI increase soon after the graft reperfusion influenced pulmonary perfusion without an alteration of extravas- cular lung water index (EVLWI) and without impaired oxygenation. This study was designed to evaluate relationships between CVP, PAOP, ITBVI, EDVI, and stroke volume index (SVI) within 48 hours after LT. We also investigated the relationship between EVLWI and arterial partial pressure of oxygen and inspired oxigen fraction ratio (PaO2/FiO2). Methods. We enrolled 125 patients (103 men and 22 women) undergoing LT. All patients were monitored with the PiCCO system (Pulsion Medical System) and with advanced pulmonary artery catheter connected to the Vigilance System. Hemodynamic- volumetric data were collected upon intensive care unit admission and every 8 hours up to 48 hours. Univariate and multivariate regression models were fitted to assess associations between SVI and EDVI, ITBVI, and filling pressures after adjusting for the right ventricular ejection fraction (RVEF, categorized as 30, 31\u2013 40, or 40) and the phase of the observation period. We also assessed associations between PaO2/FiO2 and EVLWI. Results. SVI was associated with EDVI, ITBVI, and RVEF. The models showing the best fit to the data were those including EDVI and ITBVI. Neither CVP nor PAOP showed correlation with SVI. EVLWI inversely correlated with PaO2/FiO2. Conclusions. In the first 48 hours after LT, ITBVI and EDVI were associated with SVI assessment, whereas CVP and PAOP were not related. EVLWI significantly inversely correlated with PaO2/FiO2

    Orexin system: Network multi-tasking

Orexin system regulates sleep/wake states and its deficiency result in narcolepsy thus indicating the crucial role of orexins in maintaining wakefulness. There are two types of orexin peptides: the orexin-A (OXA or hypocretin 1) and orexin-B (OXB or hypocretin 2). The Majority of the central nervous system orexin peptides are synthesized in neurons located in the lateral and back hypothalamus and send projections throughout the brain regions Orexin neurons are "multi-tasking" hence regulating also energy homeostasis, reward systems and feeding behaviour through connection with hypothalamic nuclei and through responsiveness to leptine and glucose. It has recently been found a connection with lymbic system suggesting a further possible role of orexins in regulating emotions. All the studies conducted confirm that orexin system regulates vigilance states, energy homeostasis, reward system, and emotions. These crucial role might be the target to develope treatments of narcolepsy, obesity, emotional stress, and drug addiction
