    COPPER AND LEAD RECOVERY FROM DISCARDED PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS BY ELECTROLYSING LEACHED SOLUTION

    Results of copper and lead recovery from discarded printing circuit boards (PCB) by acidic dissolution and electrodeposition are presented. A preliminary procedure of the recovery process is proposed with the following steps: disposal of the mounted electrical elements, cleaning, grinding, iron separation for grains screening, metal dissolution, and electrolysis. The composition analysis is performed to define suitable electrochemical parameters for recovery. XRF and AAS techniques are used for preliminary estimation of metal content in leached solution. LSV method is implemented to establish parameters for copper electrodeposition. The product quality is evaluated through XRD analysis. The high recovery efficiencies, 97.61% and 96.59 % for copper (in metallic form) and lead (in dioxide form), respectively, were reached.

    Enterprise Systems and Customer Agility Exploratory Study in Vietnam

    Contemporary companies in developing countries are raising their budget on Enterprise systems (ES). ES are expected to enhance Customer agility (CA) which refers to a firm’s capability to sense and respond to customer changes effectively. However, research in the relationship between ES on CA is contradictory. Taking Vietnam as the context, our study investigates the role of ES on CA in ten interviewed companies. Using multi-case methodology, the study also aims to seek for deep observation of CA in Vietnam business. Consistent with past literature, CA in the interviewed companies is affected by organizational context (i.e. industry, business function). In Vietnam, the role of ES on CA is not seen at its full extent. Most companies use ES to store and process data for its daily operation. Only a few of them store multiple types of data in their ES and utilize the advanced functions of the ES for customer analysis. Moreover, even when companies highly appreciate the competence of ES for advanced customer behaviour analysis, top managers are not using ES as a main source of information for their customer related decision-making. Due to their lack of trust on the capability of the system, low self-efficacy in ES usage plus the Vietnam trading specifics, top managers prefer other sources of data, own experiences and own report styles to make decisions

    Frontline managers and street-level bureaucracy : a case study

    Policy implementation gap is one of the major problems confronting both developed and developing countries. Among a number of implementation models proposed to explain the problems during policy implementation stage is the theory of street-level bureaucracy. This research also aims to contribute to the understanding of the “street-level bureaucracy” phenomenon. However, rather than analyzing the traditional street-level workers as proposed in Lipsky’s work, this paper focus on another subject of street-level bureaucracy: the frontline managers. The rationale behind this is that frontline managers, in order to cope with the pressure of their working environment and sustain their interest, also exercise discretion in their work. It would be unjustified to consider frontline managers the same as any other types of managers in the organization. To analyze whether this argument is valid, the research is conducted using a case study about a province in Vietnam. The target policies in this study are alcohol-related one. In-depth interviews and document review are the primary data sources. The study found out that the frontline managers did exercise discretion when implementing policy. They could choose light penalties for the violators, ignore minor violations of the laws, or decide not to apply the policies depending on the situation. Similar to frontline bureaucrats, frontline managers are also under various influential factors such as the direction from the upper-level, limited resources, and the knowledge and attitude of the implementers towards the policies applied. One factor emerged from this research is the impact of local people in policy implementation, which takes the form of social power. The finding of this research presents implications for practice in terms of understanding and mediating the role of frontline managers in the policy process. Public management and implementation processes should give recognition to the special role of frontline managers, being managers and practitioners at the same time

    Review of Impacts of Leadership Competence of Project Managers on Construction Project Success

    Leadership - Human endeavors play an important role in all areas of socio-economic development for any country in the world. Construction investment projects need more leadership role by their own characteristics. This research aims to give an overview of the theories of project manager leadership competence, the viewpoints of evaluation of the project's success, and the views on the influence of leadership competences and the success of the project. Research on the use of reliable secondary document sources in the world is synthesized from research works, scientific reports in the field of project management. The results of this study show that there is a great deal of research literature on project manager leadership competence and the success of the project in general but not many research papers on construction projects. This research is intended to suggest further studies to determine the specific influences, from that the training direction will increase the project management competence in the field of construction
