Proton mass effects in wide-angle Compton scattering
We investigate proton mass effects in the handbag approach to wide-angle
Compton scattering. We find that theoretical uncertainties due to the proton
mass are significant for photon energies presently studied at Jefferson Lab.
With the proposed energy upgrade such uncertainties will be clearly reduced.Comment: 4 pages, uses revtex, 3 figure
Visualization of individual's knowledge by analyzing the citation networks
Visual analysis of knowledge domain is an emerging field of study as science is highly dynamic and constantly evolving. Behind the scene, a knowledge domain is formed and contributed by enormous researchers' publications that describe the common subject of the domain. There is large number of significant activities have been carried out to visualize and identify the knowledge domains of research projects, groups and communities. However, the research on visualizing the knowledge structure at individual level is relative inactive. It is difficult to track down the individual's contribution to the subject and the degree of the knowledge they possess. In this paper, we are attempting to visualize the individual's knowledge structure by analyzing the citation and co-authorship relational structures. We try to analyze and map author's documents to the knowledge domains. By mapping the documents to knowledge domain, we obtain the skeleton of knowledge structure of an individual. Then, we apply the visualization technique to present the result. © 2007 IEEE
Analysis and visualization of co-authorship networks for understanding academic collaboration and knowledge domain of individual researchers
This paper proposed a new approach for collecting, analyzing and visualizing co-authoring data of individuals. This approach can be used for understanding the academic collaboration and knowledge domain of individual researchers in a past period through repetitive co-published works. Particularly we extracted the co-authoring data from the DBLP which is one of the largest on-line Computer Science bibliographic databases available on the Internet. To help users to understand the academic collaboration and knowledge domain of individuals, we developed an InterRing visualizer which shows not only the weight of co-authorship of an individual with other researchers in particular academic year, but also the knowledge domain of the individual that was covered by his/her publications published in a past period. © 2006 IEEE
Of Substitution and Doping: Spatial and Electronic Structure in Fe Pnictides
A highly intriguing aspect in iron-pnictide superconductors is the
composition-dependent electronic structure, in particular the question if and
how charge carriers are introduced to the system upon substitution of Ba by
alkali metals or of Fe by other transition metals, TM. We report on a
systematic study of spatial structure and electronic states by x-ray
diffraction and x-ray absorption on a large number of compositions in the
(Ba,K)(Fe,TM)2As2 family. The coherent combination of detailed structural
information with an in-depth analysis of the electronic structure allows us to
sensitively disentangle (charge-carrier) "doping" effects from "substitutional"
effects. Results include a doping character that is site-decoupled, as well as
TM 3d energy-level schemes that exhibit non-standard level sequences and even
t2-e level crossings. Our study indicates that doping per se seems to play a
lesser role than expected for pnictide superconductivity and magnetism
Capillarity Theory for the Fly-Casting Mechanism
Biomolecular folding and function are often coupled. During molecular
recognition events, one of the binding partners may transiently or partially
unfold, allowing more rapid access to a binding site. We describe a simple
model for this flycasting mechanism based on the capillarity approximation and
polymer chain statistics. The model shows that flycasting is most effective
when the protein unfolding barrier is small and the part of the chain which
extends towards the target is relatively rigid. These features are often seen
in known examples of flycasting in protein-DNA binding. Simulations of
protein-DNA binding based on well-funneled native-topology models with
electrostatic forces confirm the trends of the analytical theory
Enabling decision trend analysis with interactive scatter plot matrices visualization
© 2015 Elsevier Ltd. This paper presents a new interactive scatter plot visualization for multi-dimensional data analysis. We apply Rough Set Theory (RST) to reduce the visual complexity through dimensionality reduction. We use an innovative point-to-region mouse click concept to enable direct interactions with scatter points that are theoretically impossible. To show the decision trend we use a virtual Z dimension to display a set of linear flows showing approximation of the decision trend. We conducted case studies to demonstrate the effectiveness and usefulness of our new technique for analyzing the property of three popular data sets including wine quality, wages and cars. The paper also includes a pilot usability study to evaluate parallel coordinate visualization with scatter plot matrices visualization with RST results

Independent association between parental smoking and non-authoritative parenting style as reported by Chinese adolescents in Hong Kong
Poster Discussion 35. Engaging New Partners: no. PD-1005-20Conference Theme: Tobacco and Non-Communicable DiseasesBACKGROUND: Both parental smoking and non-authoritative parenting style predict adolescent smoking, but the association between the two risk factors was seldom studied. We investigated this association in Chinese parents of adolescents in Hong Kong, where smoking is socially undesirable, especially in females. DESIGN/METHODS: In the Hong Kong Student Obesity Surveillance project 2006/07, 33692 adolescents aged 11-18 (44.9% boys, mean age 14.8, SD 1.9 years) from 42 randomly selected schools reported smoking status (yes vs no) and the level (frequent/sometimes as high; seldom/none as low) of care and control of each parent. Parenting style (dependent variable) was defined as authoritative …published_or_final_versio
