    Betalains and phenolic compounds of leaves and stems of Alternanthera brasiliana and Alternanthera tenella

    Betacyanins and phenolic compounds from acetonitrile:acidified water extracts of Alternanthera brasiliana and Alternanthera tenella were characterized and quantified using a high-performance liquid chromatography system coupled with diode array and electrospray mass spectrometry detection. Four betacyanins (amaranthine, isoamaranthine, betanin and isobetanin) were tentatively identified and quantified. Twenty eight phenolic compounds of four different families (hydroxybenzoic and hydroxycinnamic acids, flavones and flavonols) were separated and characterized on the basis of their accurate MS and MS/MS information out of which ten compounds were confirmed by authentic standards. These plant species could be considered as an especially rich source of natural bioactive compounds and potential food colorants. A. brasiliana showed the highest betacyanin and polyphenols content (89 μg/g and 35,243 μg/g, respectively). Among polyphenols, flavonols were the more abundant (kaempferol-glucoside, kaempferol-rutinoside and kaempferol-rhamnosyl-rhamnosyl-glycoside). Meanwhile, A. tenella showed a different polyphenols profile with flavones as major compounds (glucopyranosil-vitexin and vitexin). As a novelty, pentosyl-vitexin and pentosyl-isovitexin were detected for the first time in Alternanthera plants. Both A. brasiliana and A. tenella leaves showed high total polyphenol content and in vitro antioxidant activity (FRAP). These results provide an analytical base concerning the phenolic and betalains composition and the antioxidant properties of two members of the promising Alternanthera gender, for subsequent applications, such as functional food ingredients.Fil: Deladino, Lorena.     Spatial variation in small scale of soil wetness evaluated by different methods.

    Evaluations of dielectric constants E and samplings for the determination of ø and bulk density þm were carried out in four profiles of a Xanthic Ferralsol with high clay content (Latossolo Amarelao - Brazil Classification) at the Experimental Statation of Embrapa Amazonia Ocidental (Manaus, AM, Brazil). The sample were taken near the soil surface. Three undisturbed core samples and three disturbed auger samples were collected at each depth. The E was determined in advance at six points with the probe inserted vertically and three points horizontally in each depth.     Clogging of conventional driplines under the application of potassium chloride (white and red) with two water qualities

    Neste trabalho, buscou-se avaliar a suscetibilidade de modelos de tubos gotejadores ao entupimento, quando expostos ao uso de cloreto de potássio (branco e vermelho), aplicados via diferentes qualidades de água. O experimento foi realizado no Laboratório de Irrigação do Departamento de Engenharia Rural da Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz ESALQ/USP, por um período de nove meses, analisando o desempenho de oito modelos de tubos gotejadores convencionais, com quatro tratamentos e dez repetições, sendo cada repetição representada por um gotejador. Os tratamentos aplicados foram: (T1-Lg/B) água do lago x cloreto de potássio branco; (T2-Lg/V) água do lago x cloreto de potássio vermelho; (T3-Lb/B) água do laboratório x cloreto de potássio branco, e (T4-Lb/V) água do laboratório x cloreto de potássio vermelho. Os modelos de tubos gotejadores apresentaram desempenhos variáveis, sugerindo que a arquitetura interna dos gotejadores foi o fator determinante na caracterização do processo de entupimento. Não foi observado elevado entupimento com relação à aplicação dos cloretos de potássio branco e vermelho na ausência ou presença de fitoplâncton, mostrando que é possível utilizar cloreto de potássio vermelho em fertirrigação.This work aimed to evaluate the susceptibility of several dripline models against the clogging process when exposed to potassium chloride (white and red), applied through different water qualities (fertigation). The experiment was accomplished in three phases, at the Laboratory of Irrigation of the Department of Rural Engineering at ESALQ/USP, for a period of nine months, by analyzing the performance of eight conventional drip models, with four treatments and ten repetitions, being each repetition a dripper. The applied treatments were: (T1-Lg/B) water of the lake x chloride of white potassium; (T2-Lg/V) water of the lake x chloride of red potassium; (T3Lb/B) water of the laboratory x chloride of white potassium and (T4-Lb/V) water of the laboratory x chloride of red potassium. The dripline models presented variable performance, suggesting that internal architecture of emitters is a major factor related to clogging resistance for imposed treatments.     Soil quality, properties, and functions in life cycle assessment: an evaluation of models

    Soils provide essential ecosystem services for supporting both human and ecosystem needs and has been under pressures resulting from the intensification and expansion of human activities. In the last 15 years, substantial efforts have been made to quantify the impacts on soils derived from production systems and their related supply chains. In this study, a systematic, qualitative evaluation of up-to-date models connecting land occupation and land transformation to soil impact indicators (e.g., soil properties, functions, and threats) is performed. The focus is on models that may be applied for assessing supply chains, namely in the context of life cycle assessment (LCA). A range of eleven soil-related models was selected and evaluated against different criteria, including scientific soundness, stakeholders' acceptance, reproducibility, and the applicability of models from the perspective of LCA practitioners. Additionally, this study proposes a new land use cause-effect chain to qualify the impacts of land use on soils. None of the models is fulfilling all the criteria and includes comprehensively the cause-effect impact pathways. Notably, trade-offs were most frequent between the relevance of the modeled impact processes and the models' applicability. On the one hand, models proposing multi-indicators cover several drivers of impacts and have a broader scope. On the other hand, several models just focus on one driver of impact, but may provide more relevant impact characterization. Our results provide common ground for the development and identification of models that provide a comprehensive and robust assessment of land use change and land use impacts on soils. Indeed, to ensure both a comprehensive and relevant characterization of impacts, the study identifies several research needs for further models' developments, namely: 1) adopting a common land use cause-effect chain and land use classification; 2) accounting for different land management and land use intensities; 3) expanding the inventory data beyond the accounting of the area related to a certain land use; 4) assessing the added value of multi-indicators compared to single indicators, including the reduction of possible redundancies in the impact evaluation; 5) improving consistency from midpoint to endpoint characterization, especially the link with biodiversity; 6) guiding the calculation of normalization factors; and 7) assessing systematically model's uncertaintyinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    A base da alimentação dos bovinos na região de Cerrado do nordeste do Maranhão são as pastagens nativas, que, além de estarem sujeitas aos efeitos da sazonalidade quanto a oferta de alimentos, vêm sofrendo expressivas reduções de espaço, por causa da intensa incorporacão de áreas ao sistema de produção da soja. Uma alternativa para auxiliar na solução do problema da escassez de alimento, principalmente na época da seca, é a utilização de sorgo forrageiro, de pastejo ou corte verde, tendo em vista que a cultura apresenta grande tolerância ao estresse hidrico e possibilita alta producão de biomassa.bitstream/item/36211/1/Doc96.pd
