    Breathing pattern was an important factor to affect the performance of sports for athletes. Optoelectronic plethysmography (OEP) was a new method to evaluate breathing pattern by measuring compartmental volume (upper thorax (UT), lower thorax (LT), and abdomen (AB)) freely without limitation. Previous study already investigated the swimmers had better breathing pattern measured by OEP (Karine et al., 2008) in sitting posture. Swimming, such as backstroke, is perfromed in supine posture, but previous study did not consider the postural effect on breathing pattern.     Non-holomorphic multi-matrix gauge invariant operators based on Brauer algebra

    We present an orthogonal basis of gauge invariant operators constructed from some complex matrices for the free matrix field, where operators are expressed with the help of Brauer algebra. This is a generalisation of our previous work for a signle complex matrix. We also discuss the matrix quantum mechanics relevant to N=4 SYM on S^{3} times R.     Josephson Plasma in RuSr2GdCu2O8

    Josephson plasma in RuSr2_{2}GdCu2_{2}O8_{8}, Ru1x_{1-x}Sr2_{2}GdCu2+x_{2+x}O8_{8} (x = 0.3), and RuSr2_{2}Eu2x_{2-x}Cex_{x}Cu2_{2}O10_{10} (x = 0.5) compounds is investigated by the sphere resonance method. The Josephson plasma is observed in a low-frequency region (around 8.5 cm1^{-1} at T \ll TcT_{c}) for ferromagnetic RuSr2_{2}GdCu2_{2}O8_{8}, while it increases to 35 cm1^{-1} for non-ferromagnetic Ru1x_{1-x}Sr2_{2}GdCu2+x_{2+x}O8_{8} (x = 0.3), which represents a large reduction in the Josephson coupling at ferromagnetic RuO2_{2} block layers. The temperature dependence of the plasma does not shift to zero frequency ({\it i.e.} jcj_{c} = 0) at low temperatures, indicating that there is no transition from the 0-phase to the π\pi-phase in these compounds. The temperature dependence and the oscillator strength of the peak are different from those of other non-magnetic cuprates, and the origins of these anomalies are discussed.Comment: to appear in Phys.     Mixtures of independent component analyzers for EEG prediction

    This paper presents a new application of independent component analysis mixture modeling (ICAMM) for prediction of electroencephalographic (EEG) signals. Demonstrations in prediction of missing EEG data in a working memory task using classic methods and an ICAMM-based algorithm are included. The performance of the methods is measured by using four error indicators: signal-to-interference (SIR) ratio, Kullback-Leibler divergence, correlation at lag zero and mean structural similarity index. The results show that the ICAMM-based algorithm outperforms the classical spherical splines method which is commonly used in EEG signal processing.     A phase II study of neoadjuvant chemotherapy with docetaxel, cisplatin and trastuzumab for T2 breast cancers

    Preclinical data indicate that the combination of docetaxel, cisplatin and trastuzumab (TCH) may have the potential for clinically significant activity against breast cancers that overexpress the her2/neu gene (HER2). An open-label phase II trial was designed to investigate the response rate and toxicity profile of TCH in breast cancer patients with a primary tumor 2-5 cm in diameter (T2) in its original size. Thirty breast cancer patients with HER2-overexpressing tumors were enrolled. Patients received 6 cycles of docetaxel at 60 mg/m(2) and cisplatin at 50 mg/m(2) given on day 1 and then every 21 days. Trastuzumab was given on day 1, cycle 1 (4 mg/kg), and then continued weekly at 2 mg/kg for 1 year or until disease progression. Tumor measurements were obtained at baseline as well as after 3 and 6 cycles of chemotherapy. We identified 29 breast cancer patients in Taiwan, of whom 13 (44.8%) had pathological complete responses. No cardiac toxicity was observed. Hematologic grade 4 or 3 toxicities were observed in 1 of 28 patients. Non-hematologic grade 4 or 3 toxicities with a reverse pattern were observed in 6 of 29 patients. The results of our study indicate that TCH neoadjuvant chemotherapy is feasible and active in T2 HER2-overexpressing breast cancer patients in terms of pathological complete response rate, complete response, partial response and manageable toxicities

    Charge Screening Effect in Metallic Carbon Nanotubes

    Charge screening effect in metallic carbon nanotubes is investigated in a model including the one-dimensional long-range Coulomb interaction. It is pointed out that an external charge which is being fixed spatially is screened by internal electrons so that the resulting object becomes electrically neutral.     Amongst the class of supergravity solutions found by Lin, Lunin and Maldacena, we consider pure and mixed state configurations generated by phase space densities in the dual fermionic picture. A one-to-one map is constructed between the phase space densities and piecewise monotonic curves, which generalize the Young diagrams corresponding to pure states. Within the fermionic phase space picture, a microscopic formula for the entropy of mixed states is proposed. Considering thermal ensembles, agreement is found between the thermodynamic and the proposed microscopic entropies. Furthermore, we study fluctuations in thermodynamic ensembles for the superstar and compare the entropy of these ensembles with the area of stretched horizons predicted by the mean fluctuation size.Comment: 21 pages, 3 figures, 2 references adde

    Universal relations in the finite-size correction terms of two-dimensional Ising models

    Quite recently, Izmailian and Hu [Phys. Rev. Lett. 86, 5160 (2001)] studied the finite-size correction terms for the free energy per spin and the inverse correlation length of the critical two-dimensional Ising model. They obtained the universal amplitude ratio for the coefficients of two series. In this study we give a simple derivation of this universal relation; we do not use an explicit form of series expansion. Moreover, we show that the Izmailian and Hu's relation is reduced to a simple and exact relation between the free energy and the correlation length.     Vortices and dynamics in trapped Bose-Einstein condensates

    I review the basic physics of ultracold dilute trapped atomic gases, with emphasis on Bose-Einstein condensation and quantized vortices. The hydrodynamic form of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation (a nonlinear Schr{\"o}dinger equation) illuminates the role of the density and the quantum-mechanical phase. One unique feature of these experimental systems is the opportunity to study the dynamics of vortices in real time, in contrast to typical experiments on superfluid 4^4He. I discuss three specific examples (precession of single vortices, motion of vortex dipoles, and Tkachenko oscillations of a vortex array). Other unusual features include the study of quantum turbulence and the behavior for rapid rotation, when the vortices form dense regular arrays. Ultimately, the system is predicted to make a quantum phase transition to various highly correlated many-body states (analogous to bosonic quantum Hall states) that are not superfluid and do not have condensate wave functions. At present, this transition remains elusive.     Deep level emission of ZnO nanoparticles deposited inside UV opal

    The temperature-dependent photoluminescence (PL) spectra of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanocrystals deposited inside the ultraviolet (UV) opal were studied. ZnO was grown in the voids between FCC packed silicon dioxide spheres using spray pyrolysis under ultrasonic vibration in the solution containing a zinc nitrate precursor. The ZnO nanoparticles inside opal matrix with UV photonic band-gap exhibit suppression of the excitonic emission and enhancement of the deep level emission. Suppression of the excitonic lines is due to the inhibition of spontaneous emission, while enhancement and broadening of the DL emission in the green spectral region is due to Purcell effect. The infiltration of ZnO inside the photonic crystal may be a useful technique to increase its emission efficiency in the selected spectral region.Comment: 22 pages, 4 figure
