Vector and Scalar Meson Resonances in Decays

Long-distance contribution to the forward-backward asymmetry in decays K+ --> pi+ l+ l-
The long-distance contribution via the two-photon intermediate state to the
forward-backward asymmetries in decays K+ --> pi+ l+ l- (l=e and mu) has been
studied within the standard model. In order to evaluate the dispersive part of
the K+ --> pi+ gamma* gamma* --> pi+ l+ l- amplitude, we employ a
phenomenological form factor to soften the ultraviolet behavior of the
transition. It is found that, this long-distance transition, although subject
to some theoretical uncertainties, can lead to significant contributions to the
forward-backward asymmetries, which could be tested in the future high-precise

From the first number an upper limit for and transitions in neutral kaon decay is derived. Using older results for the
Ke3/K3 fraction, the 3 branching ratio is found to be , about a factor three more
precise than from previous experiments
Breakup Reactions of 11Li within a Three-Body Model
We use a three-body model to investigate breakup reactions of 11Li (n+n+9Li)
on a light target. The interaction parameters are constrained by known
properties of the two-body subsystems, the 11Li binding energy and
fragmentation data. The remaining degrees of freedom are discussed. The
projectile-target interactions are described by phenomenological optical
potentials. The model predicts dependence on beam energy and target,
differences between longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions and
provides absolute values for all computed differential cross sections. We give
an almost complete series of observables and compare with corresponding
measurements. Remarkably good agreement is obtained. The relative neutron-9Li
p-wave content is about 40%. A p-resonance, consistent with measurements at
about 0.5 MeV of width about 0.4 MeV, seems to be necessary. The widths of the
momentum distributions are insensitive to target and beam energy with a
tendency to increase towards lower energies. The transverse momentum
distributions are broader than the longitudinal due to the diffraction process.
The absolute values of the cross sections follow the neutron-target cross
sections and increase strongly for beam energies decreasing below 100 MeV/u.Comment: 19 pages, 14 figures, RevTeX, psfig.st
Charged Kaon K \to 3 pi CP Violating Asymmetries at NLO in CHPT
We give the first full next-to-leading order analytical results in Chiral
Perturbation Theory for the charged Kaon K \to 3 pi slope g and decay rates
CP-violating asymmetries. We have included the dominant Final State
Interactions at NLO analytically and discussed the importance of the unknown
counterterms. We find that the uncertainty due to them is reasonable just for
\Delta g_C, i.e. the asymmetry in the K^+ \to pi^+ pi^+ pi^- slope g; we get
\Delta g_C = -(2.4 +- 1.2) 10^{-5}. The rest of the asymmetries are very
sensitive to the unknown counterterms. In particular, the decay rate
asymmetries can change even sign. One can use this large sentivity to get
valuable information on those counterterms and on Im(G_8) coupling --very
important for the CP-violating parameter epsilon'_K-- from the eventual
measurement of these asymmetries. We also provide the one-loop O(e^2 p^2)
electroweak octet contributions for the neutral and charged Kaon K \to 3 pi

The Impact of |Delta I|=5/2 Transitions in K-> pi pi Decays
We consider the impact of isospin violation on the analysis of K-> pi pi
decays. We scrutinize, in particular, the phenomenological role played by the
additional weak amplitude, of |Delta I|=5/2 in character, incurred by the
presence of isospin violation. We show that Watson's theorem is appropriate in
O(m_d-m_u), so that the inferred pi-pi phase shift at sqrt{s}=m_K determines
the strong phase difference between the I=0 and I=2 amplitudes in K-> pi pi
decay. We find the magnitude of the |Delta I|=5/2 amplitude thus implied by the
empirical branching ratios to be larger than expected from estimates of
isospin-violating strong and electromagnetic effects. We effect a new
determination of the octet and 27-plet coupling constants with
strong-interaction isospin violation and with electromagnetic effects, as
computed by Cirigliano, Donoghue, and Golowich, and find that we are unable to
resolve the difficulty. Exploring the role of |Delta I|=5/2 transitions in the
CP-violating observable epsilon'/epsilon, we determine that the presence of a
|Delta I|=5/2 amplitude impacts the empirical determination of omega, the ratio
of the real parts of the |Delta I|=3/2 to |Delta I|=1/2 amplitudes, and that it
generates a decrease in the estimation of epsilon'/epsilon.Comment: 29 pages, 1 ps fig, refs. added, to appear in Phys. Rev.

Reliability of the kindelan scoring system for alveolar bone grafting with and without a pre-graft occlusal radiograph in patients with cleft lip and palate
We aimed to compare the reliability of the Kindelan system using one postoperative radiograph to assess the success of alveolar bone grafts with the use of two occlusal radiographs (before and after operation). This retrospective reliability study took place at Glasgow Dental Hospital cleft unit, and two examiners scored 84 radiographs two weeks apart. The sample was taken from a database of patients having alveolar bone grafts between 2007 and 2010. They had an upper anterior occlusal radiograph taken before the graft and another at a mean of 6 months (range 3–12 months) postoperatively. Kappa scores were used to measure intraobserver and interobserver agreement. Intraexaminer agreement ranged from good to very good using one or two radiographs, and interexaminer agreement ranged from moderate to good for both systems. Reliability when scoring with either one or two radiographs was similar, and ranged from good to very good
