Photon polarization in radiative B decays
We study decay distributions in B -> K pi pi gamma, combining contributions
from several overlapping resonances in a K pi pi mass range near 1400 MeV,
(1^+) K_1(1400), (2^+) K^*_2(1430) and (1^-) K^*(1410). A method is proposed
for using these distributions to determine a photon polarization parameter in
the effective radiative weak Hamiltonian. This parameter is measured through an
up-down asymmetry of the photon direction relative to the K pi pi decay plane.
We calculate a dominant up-down asymmetry of 0.33 +- 0.05 from the K1(1400)
resonance, which can be measured with about 10^8 B B-bar pairs, thus providing
a new test for the Standard Model and a probe for some of its extensions.Comment: 22 pages, 3 figures, version to appear in Phys. Rev.
Form factors of heavy-to-light B decays at large recoil
General relations between the form factors of B decays to light mesons are
derived using the heavy quark and large recoil expansion. On their basis the
complete account of contributions of second order in the ratio of the light
meson mass to the large recoil energy is performed. Both ground and excited
final meson states are considered. It is shown that most of the known form
factor relations remain valid after the inclusion of quadratic mass
corrections. The validity of some of such relations requires additional
equalities for the helicity amplitudes. It is found that all these relations
and equalities are fulfilled in the relativistic quark model based on the
quasipotential approach in quantum field theory. The contribution of 1/m_b
corrections to the branching fraction of the rare radiative B decay is
discussed.Comment: 23 pages, revte
Understanding the newly observed Y(4008) by Belle
Very recently a new enhancement around 4.05 GeV was observed by Belle
experiment. In this short note, we discuss some possible assignments for this
enhancement, i.e. and molecular state. In these two
assignments, Y(4008) can decay into with comparable
branching ratio with that of . Thus one suggests
high energy experimentalists to look for Y(4008) in channel.
Furthermore one proposes further experiments to search missing channel
, and especially and
, which will be helpful to distinguish and
molecular state assignments for this new enhancement.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures. Typos correcte
Radiative B decays to the axial mesons at next-to-leading order
We calculate the branching ratios of at next-to-leading
order (NLO) of where is the orbitally excited axial vector
meson. The NLO decay amplitude is divided into the vertex correction and the
hard spectator interaction part. The one is proportional to the weak form
factor of transition while the other is a convolution between
light-cone distribution amplitudes and hard scattering kernel. Using the
light-cone sum rule results for the form factor, we have \calB(B^0\to
K_1^0(1270)\gamma)=(0.828\pm0.335)\times 10^{-5} and \calB(B^0\to
K_1^0(1400)\gamma)=(0.393\pm0.151)\times 10^{-5}.Comment: 17pages, 4 figures. Minor changes, typos corrected. PRD accepted

Final State Rescattering and Color-suppressed \bar B^0-> D^{(*)0} h^0 Decays
The color-suppressed \bar B^0-> D^{(*)0}\pi^0, D^{(*)0}\eta, D^0\omega decay
modes have just been observed for the first time. The rates are all larger than
expected, hinting at the presence of final state interactions. Considering \bar
B^0-> D^{(*)0}\pi^0 mode alone, an elastic D^{(*)}\pi -> D^{(*)}\pi
rescattering phase difference \delta \equiv \delta_{1/2} - \delta_{3/2} \sim
30^\circ would suffice, but the \bar B^0-> D^{(*)0}\eta, D^0\omega modes compel
one to extend the elastic formalism to SU(3) symmetry. We find that a universal
a_2/a_1=0.25 and two strong phase differences 20^\circ \sim \theta < \delta <
\delta^\prime \sim 50^\circ can describe both DP and D^*P modes rather well;
the large phase of order 50^\circ is needed to account for the strength of {\it
both} the D^{(*)0}\pi^0 and D^{(*)0}\eta modes. For DV modes, the nonet
symmetry reduces the number of physical phases to just one, giving better
predictive power. Two solutions are found. We predict the rates of the \bar
B^0-> D^{+}_s K^-, D^{*+}_s K^-, D^0\rho^0, D^+_s K^{*-} and D^0\phi modes, as
well as \bar B^0-> D^{0}\bar K^0, D^{*0}\bar K^0, D^{0}\bar K^{*0} modes. The
formalism may have implications for rates and CP asymmetries of charmless
modes.Comment: REVTeX4, 18 pages, 5 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev.
Possible Supersymmetric Effects on Angular Distributions in Decays
We investigate the angular distributions of the rare B decay, , in general supersymmetric extensions of the standard
model. We consider the new physics contributions from the operators
in small invariant mass region of lepton pair. We show that the
azimuthal angle distribution of the decay can tell us the new physics effects
clearly from the behavior of the distribution, even if new physics does not
change the decay rate substantially from the standard model prediction
The Cleo Rich Detector
We describe the design, construction and performance of a Ring Imaging
Cherenkov Detector (RICH) constructed to identify charged particles in the CLEO
experiment. Cherenkov radiation occurs in LiF crystals, both planar and ones
with a novel ``sawtooth''-shaped exit surface. Photons in the wavelength
interval 135--165 nm are detected using multi-wire chambers filled with a
mixture of methane gas and triethylamine vapor. Excellent pion/kaon separation
is demonstrated.Comment: 75 pages, 57 figures, (updated July 26, 2005 to reflect reviewers

Nonleptonic two-body charmless B decays involving a tensor meson in ISGW2 model
Nonleptonic charmless B decays into a pseudoscalar (P) or a vector (V) meson
accompanying a tensor (T) meson are re-analyzed. We scrutinize the hadronic
uncertainties and ambiguities of the form factors which appear in the
literature. The Isgur-Scora-Grinstein-Wise updated model (ISGW2) is adopted to
evaluate the relevant hadronic matrix elements. We calculate the branching
ratios and CP asymmetries for various decay processes. With the
ISGW2 model, the branching ratios are enhanced by about an order of magnitude
compared to the previous estimates. We show that the ratios \calB(B\to
VT)/\calB(B\to PT) for some strangeness-changing processes are very sensitive
to the CKM angle ().Comment: 23 pages, REVTEX; minor clarifications included; to appear in Phys.

Charmless Exclusive Baryonic B Decays
We present a systematical study of two-body and three-body charmless baryonic
B decays. Branching ratios for two-body modes are in general very small,
typically less than , except that \B(B^-\to p \bar\Delta^{--})\sim
1\times 10^{-6}. In general, due to
the large coupling constant for . For three-body modes we
focus on octet baryon final states. The leading three-dominated modes are with a branching ratio of
order for and
for . The penguin-dominated decays with strangeness
in the meson, e.g., and , have appreciable rates and the mass
spectrum peaks at low mass. The penguin-dominated modes containing a strange
baryon, e.g., , have
branching ratios of order . In contrast, the decay
rate of is smaller. We explain why some of
charmless three-body final states in which baryon-antibaryon pair production is
accompanied by a meson have a larger rate than their two-body counterparts:
either the pole diagrams for the former have an anti-triplet bottom baryon
intermediate state, which has a large coupling to the meson and the
nucleon, or they are dominated by the factorizable external -emission
process.Comment: 46 pages and 3 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev. D. Major changes are:
