Rejection-Cascade of Gaussians: Real-time adaptive background subtraction framework

Background-Foreground classification is a well-studied problem in computer vision. Due to the pixel-wise nature of modeling and processing in the algorithm, it is usually difficult to satisfy real-time constraints. There is a trade-off between the speed (because of model complexity) and accuracy. Inspired by the rejection cascade of Viola-Jones classifier, we decompose the Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) into an adaptive cascade of Gaussians(CoG). We achieve a good improvement in speed without compromising the accuracy with respect to the baseline GMM model. We demonstrate a speed-up factor of 4-5x and 17 percent average improvement in accuracy over Wallflowers surveillance datasets. The CoG is then demonstrated to over the latent space representation of images of a convolutional variational autoencoder(VAE). We provide initial results over CDW-2014 dataset, which could speed up background subtraction for deep architectures.Comment: Accepted for National Conference on Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition, Image Processing and Graphics (NCVPRIPG 2019

The research was conducted at Screen house Experiment Berastagi at ± 1340 m asl from April untilJuly 2013 using split plot design with main plot, i.e. organic liquid fertilizer concentration (0, 2, 4,and 6 mL/L) and sub plot is tuber weight difference (≀ 3, 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12 g). Parameter observedwere plant height, duration of green leaves, tuber weight per plant, weight tuber per plot, and tubergrade percentage. The result showed organic liquid fertilizer treatment significantly defend thechlorophyll leaves (duration of green leaves). Tuber weight difference treatment significantlyincrease plant height, main stem number, tuber number per plant, weight tuber per plot and tubergrade percentage on 10,1 – 20 g. The interaction of two factor significantly increase tuber gradepercentage on ≀ 5 g. The best result was showed by organic liquid fertilizer concentration 6 mL/Land tuber weight 9-12 g._______________________________________________________________________________

Atomistic studies of transformation pathways and energetics in plutonium

One of the most challenging problems in understanding the structural phase transformations in Pu is to determine the energetically favored, continuous atomic pathways from one crystal symmetry to another. This problem involves enumerating candidate pathways and studying their energetics to garner insight into instabilities and energy barriers. The purpose of this work is to investigate the energetics of two transformation pathways for the delta to alpha' transformation in Pu that were recently proposed [Lookman et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 100:145504, 2008] on the basis of symmetry. These pathways require the presence of either an intermediate hexagonal closed-packed (hcp) structure or a simple hexagonal (sh) structure. A subgroup of the parent fcc and the intermediate hexagonal structure, which has trigonal symmetry, facilitates the transformation to the intermediate hcp or sh structure. Phonons then break the translational symmetry from the intermediate hcp or sh structure to the final monoclinic symmetry of the alpha' structure. We perform simulations using the modified embedded atom method (MEAM) for Pu to investigate these candidate pathways. Our main conclusion is that the path via hcp is energetically favored and the volume change for both pathways essentially occurs in the second step of the transformation, i.e. from the intermediate sh or hcp to the monoclinic structure. Our work also highlights the deficiency of the current state-of-the-art MEAM potential in capturing the anisotropy associated with the lower symmetry monoclinic structure.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in Philos. This study aims to determine the picture of accountability and transparency in the management of village fund allocation in 2018-2020 in Lau Baleng District, Karo Regency.  This research was conducted in Lingga Muda Village and Lau Baleng Village located in Lau Baleng District, Karo Regency which is approximately 5 km between Lingga Muda Village and Lau Baleng Village. Data analysis was carried out on reliability and transparency based on Permendagri Number 113 of 2014. The population of this study is the realization budget starting from the emergence of Permendagri number 113 of 2014 until now. The sample inthis study was taken from the realization of the 2018-2020 budget. The data analysis technique used is a comparative descriptive technique, namely a comparison between the village under study and Permendagri number 113 of 2014. The results of the study can be seen that the application of accountability in the management of Village Fund Allocation (ADD) in Lingga and Lau Baleng villages, Labu Baleng District, Karo Regency is classified as good with the involvement of village communities in planning village fund allocation, as well as responsibility in managing village funds.  This is in accordance with Permendagri 113 of 2014.  Even so, there are still some shortcomings, especially in reporting accountability in terms of implementation realization reports. The implementation of transparency in the management of village fund allocation (ADD) of village governments in Lingga and Lau Baleng villages, Lau Baleng District, Karo Regency is still lacking transparency due to the lack of openness to the community in managing village fund allocation in village development, then there are still many limitations of the community in obtaining information regarding the management of village fund allocation

Understanding Tourism Experiences and Behaviour in Cities: An Australian Case Study

This study aims to enhance the understanding of tourist experiences and behaviour in urban destinations by analysing the spatial movements of tourists, identifying the key attributes they are seeking in urban destinations, determining how important these attributes are to their experiences, evaluating how two urban destinations performed in relation to these attributes, and assessing whether there are key differences between different types of visitors to urban destinations. The ultimate aim of this project is to inform and guide the future governance and improved functioning of urban tourism destinations by developing a better understanding of the tourist in such settings

Rice endosperm is cost-effective for the production of recombinant griffithsin with potent activity against HIV

Protein microbicides containing neutralizing antibodies and antiviral lectins may help to reduce the rate of infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) if it is possible to manufacture the components in large quantities at a cost affordable in HIV‐endemic regions such as sub‐Saharan Africa. We expressed the antiviral lectin griffithsin (GRFT), which shows potent neutralizing activity against HIV, in the endosperm of transgenic rice plants (Oryza sativa), to determine whether rice can be used to produce inexpensive GRFT as a microbicide ingredient. The yield of (OS)GRFT in the best‐performing plants was 223 Όg/g dry seed weight. We also established a one‐step purification protocol, achieving a recovery of 74% and a purity of 80%, which potentially could be developed into a larger‐scale process to facilitate inexpensive downstream processing. (OS)GRFT bound to HIV glycans with similar efficiency to GRFT produced in Escherichia coli. Whole‐cell assays using purified (OS)GRFT and infectivity assays using crude extracts of transgenic rice endosperm confirmed that both crude and pure (OS)GRFT showed potent activity against HIV and the crude extracts were not toxic towards human cell lines, suggesting they could be administered as a microbicide with only minimal processing. A freedom‐to‐operate analysis confirmed that GRFT produced in rice is suitable for commercial development, and an economic evaluation suggested that 1.8 kg/ha of pure GRFT could be produced from rice seeds. Our data therefore indicate that rice could be developed as an inexpensive production platform for GRFT as a microbicide component
