Multi-level conceptualization of quantityin modern English

    Get PDF
The present paper deals with the study of the role of language in forming of the content of the concept QUANTITY, which includes basic and particular characteristics. The authors attempt to describe the language means of quantity conceptualization at different levels in modern English. Analysis of the range of quantitative meanings formed by the language units of quantitative semantics, both lexical and grammatical, in the sentence under the influence of additional linguistic factors of quantity conceptualization is carried ou

Study of the process of interaction between low-frequency ultrasound and biological tissue phantoms

    Get PDF
This paper presents the results of a series of experimental studies on the impact of low-frequency ultrasound on biological tissue phantoms, acoustic pressure on the motion of particles in an acoustic field generated by annular waveguide. Experiments have demonstrated that when vibrations with a frequency corresponding to its natural frequency of bending vibrations are induced in the annular waveguide, micropowder particles form arranged bulk structures on the substrate. Analysis of results on the behavior of micropowder particles in the ring insonation area revealed that frequency variations of ultrasonic vibrations lead to variations in spatial distribution of acoustic pressure inside the ring. The thermal effect of low-frequency ultrasound from annular waveguide on biological tissue phantoms has been studied. It was established that the annular waveguide enables heating of fluid when it has no direct contact with the media, thereby demonstrating its applicability for non-contact treatment of tumors

This paper describes a micro-robot with the vibrational piezoelectric actuator that was developed and tested using finite element method. Dependency of the robot motion speed on vibration frequency and coefficient of friction of the actuating elements and bearing surface has been investigated. The principle for motion control of the robot has been described and potential domains for its application have been discusse

Myth in the structure of national consciousness

    Get PDF
In the context of globalization processes, the problem of nations and national selfconsciousness has become one of the most widely discussed in the modern social sciences and humanities. Within the framework of globalization approaches, a nation is viewed as a transitional formation between traditional locality and planetary interdependence. According to modern theories, the model of a nation is built on the basis of Western European developmental patterns. From such viewpoint, the characterization of ethnicity is rejected, as a feature of “primitive”, “pre-political” societies as marginal groups doomed to assimilation into the existing structures. The central problem of ethnical belonging is the issue of origin, the restoration of cultural and historical memory and the construction of the “appropriate past”, which would assist in solving the problems of the present. The core of any national culture is national-ethnic self-consciousness which is the key factor in the national identity formation. It is pointed out that certain types of myths are inseparable from the ethnic identity. Today, researchers speak of the process of “remythologization”. For Russia, which has always been a multiethnic state, the problem of scientific definition of nations, ethnic groups, national and ethnic consciousness has a special practical significance. In Russia and the post-Soviet space, the activation of mythological thinking has its own specifics. Keywords: Nations, Ethnicity, National consciousness, Myth, Globalizatio

ИССЛЕДОВАНИЕ ДИНАМИЧЕСКОЙ УСТОЙЧИВОСТИ ГИБКИХ ВОЛНОВОДОВ ДЛЯ УЛЬТРАЗВУКОВОЙ ТРОМБОЭКТОМИИ

The paper presents results of mathematical modelling of dynamic stability of flexible ultrasonic waveguides applied in engineering and medicine, particularly, in minimally-invasive surgery. By means of the Bubnov-Galerkin method an equation of parametric flexural vibrations of a waveguide is reduced to the Mathieu equation. Stability of the equation solutions is determined by values of its coefficients and may be represented graphically by means of the Ince-Strutt diagram. Parameters of the Mathieu equation determining the stability of its solution are determined by means of finite element method using ANSYS software and APDL programming language.
