A Quasi Experimental Evaluation of Thinking for a Change: A Real-World Application

Due to the popularity of cognitive behavioral interventions, programs that follow this model are often assumed to be effective. Yet evaluations of specific programs have been slow in coming. The current investigation seeks to bridge this gap by evaluating the effectiveness of Thinking for a Change (TFAC), a widely used cognitive behavioral curriculum for offenders. Furthermore, this evaluation provides a “real-world” test of TFAC, because it was implemented by line staff in a community corrections agency as opposed to being a pilot project implemented by program developers. The results of the analyses indicate that offenders participating in the TFAC program had a significantly lower recidivism rate than similar offenders that were not exposed to the program

The independence of Tarski’s Euclidean axiom

Tarski’s axioms of plane geometry are formalized and, using the standard real Cartesian model, shown to be consistent. A substantial theory of the projective plane is developed. Building on this theory, the Klein–Beltrami model of the hyperbolic plane is defined and shown to satisfy all of Tarski’s axioms except his Euclidean axiom; thus Tarski’s Euclidean axiom is shown to be independent of his other axioms of plane geometry. An earlier version of this work was the subject of the author’s MSc thesis [2], which contains natural-language explanations of some of th

Autism spectrum disorder, anxiety and severe depression in a male patient with deletion and duplication in the 21q22.3 region: A case report

    No full text
In this report, a patient carrying a 650 kb deletion and a 759 kb duplication of chromosomal 21q22.3 region was described. Facial dysmorphic features, hypotonia, short stature, learning impairment, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety and depression were observed clinical characteristics. Mentioned copy number variants were the shortest in length reported so far. The current study hypothesized that the presence of a susceptibility locus for autism spectrum disorder associated with depression and anxiety may be located in a 200 kb region between the PCNT and PRMT2 genes. The current study aimed to provide insight into the human genome morbidity map of chromosome 21
