'My Father’s Daughter': Filial Dislocation in Shirley Geok-lin Lim’s Poetry

Drawing on the father figure and the father–daughter dynamic in Shirley Geok-lin Lim’s poetry, this article examines how the motif of filial dislocation underlines ambivalent and complicated emotions and meanings that can be traced back to the poet’s traumatic childhood experience of her father’s violence. This experience, described here as one of acute psychical and emotional rupture and dislocation, has been imprinted onto Lim’s body and consciousness in the form of embodied memories and emotions, and reenacted in writing and poetic articulation where the father figure is concerned. Through the recurring themes of memory, (dis)connection, distance, and dislocation, Lim’s deeply personal, even autobiographical, poems explore the wounded father–daughter relationship; in so doing, they trouble the ideological premise of filial piety as a cultural concept, which upholds the child’s obligation to the parent through the performance of filial care, respect, and obedience. At the same time, Lim’s poems reflect how embodied memories and emotions are relived and refelt in the process of writing as well as the depth of the poet’s emotional response and subjective interiority in the articulation and performance of filial and gender identity. Weaving through and traversing interior and exterior spaces and landscapes of memory and imagination, body and geography, the poems illuminate complex psychological, emotional, and embodied dimensions of Lim’s mediation of her filial and gender identity as a feminist poet, a daughter, and a gendered individual

New Congruences Modulo 2, 4, and 8 for the Number of Tagged Parts Over the Partitions with Designated Summands

Recently, Lin introduced two new partition functions PDt(n)_t(n) and PDOt(n)_t(n), which count the total number of tagged parts over all partitions of nn with designated summands and the total number of tagged parts over all partitions of nn with designated summands in which all parts are odd. Lin also proved some congruences modulo 3 and 9 for PDt(n)_t(n) and PDOt(n)_t(n), and conjectured some congruences modulo 8. Very recently, Adansie, Chern, and Xia found two new infinite families of congruences modulo 9 for PDt(n)_t(n). In this paper, we prove the congruences modulo 8 conjectured by Lin and also find many new congruences and infinite families of congruences modulo some small powers of 2.Comment: 19 page

Job satisfaction leads to a person's general attitude about his work. So that each individual has a high job satisfaction, every company must pay attention to everything that affects job satisfaction. Leadership, communication, and work environment are some of the factors that influence job satisfaction of employees in the organization. This study aimed to investigate the effect of significant variables simultaneously and partially leadership, communication, and work environment on job satisfaction of employees of PT. BPR Lestari Sriartha Denpasar by taking a sample of 56 individuals are all employees of PT. BPR Lestari Sriartha Denpasar. Based on the test results of F-test, then the variable; leadership, communication, and positive work environment simultaneously significant effect on employee job satisfaction. Judging from the results of t-test, then the leadership variable t (4,308) ? t table (1.671), communication variable t (2,549) ? t table (1.671) and for the work environment variables t (3.618) ? t table (1.671), is a positive and significant effect partiall

Systematic investigations of transient response of nuclear spins in the presence of polarized electrons

We electrically probed the transient response of nuclear spins in an n-GaAs channel by performing Hanle signal and spin-valve signal measurements on an all-electrical spin-injection device having a half-metallic spin source of Co2MnSi. Furthermore, we simulated the Hanle and spin-valve signals by using the time evolution of nuclear-spin polarization under the presence of polarized electron spins by taking both T-1e and T-1 into consideration, where T-1e(-1) is the polarization rate of nuclear spins through the transfer of angular momentum from polarized electron spins and T-1(-1) is the depolarization rate of nuclear spins through the interaction with the lattice. The simulation results reproduced our experimental results on all the nuclear-spin-related phenomena appearing in the Hanle and spin-valve signals at different measurement conditions, providing quantitative explanation for the transient response of nuclear spins in GaAs to a change in magnetic fields and an estimate of the time scales of T-1e and T-1. These experimental and simulated results will deepen the understanding of nuclear-spin dynamics in semiconductors

Minimum Degrees of Minimal Ramsey Graphs for Almost-Cliques

For graphs FF and HH, we say FF is Ramsey for HH if every 22-coloring of the edges of FF contains a monochromatic copy of HH. The graph FF is Ramsey HH-minimal if FF is Ramsey for HH and there is no proper subgraph FF' of FF so that FF' is Ramsey for HH. Burr, Erdos, and Lovasz defined s(H)s(H) to be the minimum degree of FF over all Ramsey HH-minimal graphs FF. Define Ht,dH_{t,d} to be a graph on t+1t+1 vertices consisting of a complete graph on tt vertices and one additional vertex of degree dd. We show that s(Ht,d)=d2s(H_{t,d})=d^2 for all values 1<dt1<d\le t; it was previously known that s(Ht,1)=t1s(H_{t,1})=t-1, so it is surprising that s(Ht,2)=4s(H_{t,2})=4 is much smaller. We also make some further progress on some sparser graphs. Fox and Lin observed that s(H)2δ(H)1s(H)\ge 2\delta(H)-1 for all graphs HH, where δ(H)\delta(H) is the minimum degree of HH; Szabo, Zumstein, and Zurcher investigated which graphs have this property and conjectured that all bipartite graphs HH without isolated vertices satisfy s(H)=2δ(H)1s(H)=2\delta(H)-1. Fox, Grinshpun, Liebenau, Person, and Szabo further conjectured that all triangle-free graphs without isolated vertices satisfy this property. We show that dd-regular 33-connected triangle-free graphs HH, with one extra technical constraint, satisfy s(H)=2δ(H)1s(H) = 2\delta(H)-1; the extra constraint is that HH has a vertex vv so that if one removes vv and its neighborhood from HH, the remainder is connected.Comment: 10 pages; 3 figure
