Einstein-Maxwell gravitational instantons and five dimensional solitonic strings
We study various aspects of four dimensional Einstein-Maxwell multicentred
gravitational instantons. These are half-BPS Riemannian backgrounds of minimal
N=2 supergravity, asymptotic to R^4, R^3 x S^1 or AdS_2 x S^2. Unlike for the
Gibbons-Hawking solutions, the topology is not restricted by boundary
conditions. We discuss the classical metric on the instanton moduli space. One
class of these solutions may be lifted to causal and regular multi `solitonic
strings', without horizons, of 4+1 dimensional N=2 supergravity, carrying null

Special Geometry of Euclidean Supersymmetry III: the local r-map, instantons and black holes
We define and study projective special para-Kahler manifolds and show that
they appear as target manifolds when reducing five-dimensional vector
multiplets coupled to supergravity with respect to time. The dimensional
reductions with respect to time and space are carried out in a uniform way
using an epsilon-complex notation. We explain the relation of our formalism to
other formalisms of special geometry used in the literature. In the second part
of the paper we investigate instanton solutions and their dimensional lifting
to black holes. We show that the instanton action, which can be defined after
dualising axions into tensor fields, agrees with the ADM mass of the
corresponding black hole. The relation between actions via Wick rotation, Hodge
dualisation and analytic continuation of axions is discussed.Comment: 72 pages, 2 figure
Extending trust to immigrants: Generalized trust, cross-group friendship and anti-immigrant sentiments in 21 European societies.
The aim of this study is twofold. First, we expand on the literature by testing whether generalized trust is negatively related to anti-immigrant sentiments in Europe. Second, we examine to what extent the relation between generalized trust and anti-immigrant sentiments is dependent upon cross-group friendships. We apply multilevel linear regression modeling to representative survey data enriched with levels of ethnic diversity covering 21 European countries. Results show that both generalized trust and cross-group friendship are negatively related to anti-immigrant sentiments. However, there is a negligible positive relation between generalized trust and cross-group friendship (r = .10), and we can clearly observe that they operate independently from one another. Hence, trusting actors are not more likely to form more cross-group friendships, and cross-group friendship do not lead to the development of more generalized trust. Instead, the findings show that generalized trust leads immigrants too to be included in the radius of trusted others and, as a consequence, the benign effects of generalized trust apply to them as well. We conclude that the strength of generalized trust is a form of generalization, beyond the confines of individual variations in intergroup experiences
The Tensor Hierarchies of Pure N=2,d=4,5,6 Supergravities
We study the supersymmetric tensor hierarchy of pure (gauged) N=2,d=4,5,6
supergravity and compare them with those of the pure, ungauged, theories
(worked out by Gomis and Roest for d=5) and the predictions of the Kac-Moody
approach made by Kleinschmidt and Roest. We find complete agreement in the
ungauged case but we also find that, after gauging, new Stueckelberg symmetries
reduce the number of independent "physical" top-forms. The analysis has to be
performed to all orders in fermion fields.
We discuss the construction of the worldvolume effective actions for the
p-branes which are charged with respect to the (p+1)-form potentials and the
relations between the tensor hierarchies and p-branes upon dimensional

Finite and infinite-dimensional symmetries of pure N=2 supergravity in D=4
We study the symmetries of pure N=2 supergravity in D=4. As is known, this
theory reduced on one Killing vector is characterised by a non-linearly
realised symmetry SU(2,1) which is a non-split real form of SL(3,C). We
consider the BPS brane solutions of the theory preserving half of the
supersymmetry and the action of SU(2,1) on them. Furthermore we provide
evidence that the theory exhibits an underlying algebraic structure described
by the Lorentzian Kac-Moody group SU(2,1)^{+++}. This evidence arises both from
the correspondence between the bosonic space-time fields of N=2 supergravity in
D=4 and a one-parameter sigma-model based on the hyperbolic group SU(2,1)^{++},
as well as from the fact that the structure of BPS brane solutions is neatly
encoded in SU(2,1)^{+++}. As a nice by-product of our analysis, we obtain a
regular embedding of the Kac-Moody algebra su(2,1)^{+++} in e_{11} based on

Lectures on Gauged Supergravity and Flux Compactifications
The low-energy effective theories describing string compactifications in the
presence of fluxes are so-called gauged supergravities: deformations of the
standard abelian supergravity theories. The deformation parameters can be
identified with the various possible (geometric and non-geometric) flux
components. In these lecture notes we review the construction of gauged
supergravities in a manifestly duality covariant way and illustrate the

The supersymmetric tensor hierarchy of N=1,d=4 supergravity
In this paper we construct the supersymmetric tensor hierarchy of N=1, d=4
supergravity. We find some differences with the general bosonic construction of
4-dimensional gauged supergravities.
The global symmetry group of N=1,d=4 supergravity consists of three factors:
the scalar manifold isometry group, the invariance group of the complex vector
kinetic matrix and the U(1) R-symmetry group. In contrast to (half)-maximal
supergravities, the latter two symmetries are not embedded into the isometry
group of the scalar manifold. We identify some components of the embedding
tensor with Fayet-Iliopoulos terms and we find that supersymmetry implies that
the inclusion of R-symmetry as a factor of the global symmetry group requires a
non-trivial extension of the standard p-form hierarchy. This extension involves
additional 3- and 4-forms. One additional 3-form is dual to the superpotential
(seen as a deformation of the simplest theory).
We study the closure of the supersymmetry algebra on all the bosonic p-form
fields of the hierarchy up to duality relations. In order to close the
supersymmetry algebra without the use of duality relations one must construct
the hierarchy in terms of supermultiplets. Such a construction requires
fermionic duality relations among the hierarchy's fermions and these turn out

Quantum Attractor Flows
Motivated by the interpretation of the Ooguri-Strominger-Vafa conjecture as a
holographic correspondence in the mini-superspace approximation, we study the
radial quantization of stationary, spherically symmetric black holes in four
dimensions. A key ingredient is the classical equivalence between the radial
evolution equation and geodesic motion of a fiducial particle on the moduli
space M^*_3 of the three-dimensional theory after reduction along the time
direction. In the case of N=2 supergravity, M^*_3 is a para-quaternionic-Kahler
manifold; in this case, we show that BPS black holes correspond to a particular
class of geodesics which lift holomorphically to the twistor space Z of M^*_3,
and identify Z as the BPS phase space. We give a natural quantization of the
BPS phase space in terms of the sheaf cohomology of Z, and compute the exact
wave function of a BPS black hole with fixed electric and magnetic charges in
this framework. We comment on the relation to the topological string amplitude,
extensions to N>2 supergravity theories, and applications to automorphic black

Effectiveness of physical training for self-employed persons with musculoskeletal disorders: a randomized controlled trial
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Despite the fact that the population of self-employed persons is still growing and at risk for long term disability due to a number of risk factors, there is still a lack of information on the effectiveness of interventions for this specific group.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>To determine the effectiveness of physical training without a cognitive behavioral component and workplace specific exercises (PT) and physical training with a cognitive behavioral component and workplace specific exercises (PTCBWE), we conducted a pragmatic Randomized Controlled Trial, stratified into two groups. Self-employed persons with a new work disability claim because of musculoskeletal disorders were randomized to PT (n = 53) or PTCBWE (n = 76), or to a corresponding usual care group (n = 50 and n = 75 respectively). Both types of training consisted of cardiovascular training, strengthening, relaxation and posture exercises and took place two or three times a week, for 1–1.5 hours, during three months, also if someone had already returned to work full-time. The primary outcome measure was claim duration (in days) during 12 months follow-up. Pain severity and functional status were secondary outcome measures. All data were assessed at baseline and at 6 and 12 months follow-up. The data with regard to claim duration were analyzed by survival analysis and Cox regression analysis. Secondary outcome measures were analyzed by means of linear regression analysis.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>After 12 months of follow-up there was no difference in claim duration between PT and usual care (Hazard Ratio 0.7; 95%CI, 0.4–1.1; p = 0.12) or PTCBWE and usual care (Hazard Ratio 0.9; 95%CI, 0.6–1.4; p = 0.72). Both types of physical training and usual care improved in pain and functional status over time, but there was only a statistically significant difference in favor of PT on pain improvement at 6 months.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>In this study, physical training with and without a cognitive behavioral component and workplace specific exercises for self-employed persons with musculoskeletal disorders was not shown to be effective on claim duration, pain severity and functional status at 12 months follow-up.</p> <p>Trial registration</p> <p>Current Controlled Trials ISRCTN67766245.</p
