    Background: The Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic has spread to various countries in the world, including Indonesia. In response to this, the Indonesian government makes policies and regulations to control and prevent COVID-19. To ensure success in controlling and preventing COVID-19, community compliance is very important, which is largely influenced by the knowledge, attitudes, and actions of the community.Objective: To describe the behavior of the community towards the prevention of COVID-19 in Amurang District.Methods: This research is descriptive with a cross-sectional or cross-sectional design, which will be conducted in September-November 2021. Using the simple random sampling method, 110 respondents met the inclusion and exclusion criteria.Results and Conclusion: The level of knowledge of the people in Amurang District about COVID-19 in the good category is 87 people (79.1%), the attitude of the people in Amurang District about COVID-19 in the good category is 81 people (73.6%), and community actions in the Amurang District Amurang numbered 91 people (82.7%).Keywords: Knowledge, Attitude, Action, COVID-1

    Heat stress, health and well-being: findings from a large national cohort of Thai adults

    OBJECTIVES This study aims to examine the association between self-reported heat stress interference with daily activities (sleeping, work, travel, housework and exercise) and three graded-holistic health and well-being outcomes (energy, emotions and life satisfaction). DESIGN A cross-sectional study. SETTING The setting is tropical and developing countries as Thailand, where high temperature and high humidity are common, particularly during the hottest seasons. PARTICIPANTS This study is based on an ongoing national Thai Cohort Study of distance-learning open-university adult students (N=60 569) established in 2005 to study the health-risk transition. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES Health impacts from heat stress in our study are categorised as physical health impacts (energy levels), mental health impacts (emotions) and well-being (life satisfaction). For each health and well-being outcome we report ORs and 95% CIs using multinomial logistic regression adjusting for a wide array of potential confounders. RESULTS Negative health and well-being outcomes (low-energy level, emotional problems and low life satisfaction) associated with increasing frequency of heat stress interfering with daily activities. Adjusted ORs for emotional problems were between 1.5 and 4.8 and in general worse than energy level (between 1.31 and 2.91) and life satisfaction (between 1.10 and 2.49). The worst health outcomes were when heat interfered with sleeping, followed by interference with daily travel, work, housework and exercise. CONCLUSIONS In tropical Thailand there already are substantial heat stress impacts on health and well-being. Increasing temperatures from climate change plus the ageing and urbanisation of the population could significantly worsen the situation.     Nanomedicine for glaucoma: liposomes provide sustained release of latanoprost in the eye

    Purpose: To report the development and therapeutic evaluation of a liposomal nanocarrier for sustained release of latanoprost, in the rabbit eye. Methods: We fabricated latanoprost-loaded egg-phosphatidylcholine (EggPC) liposomes using the film hydration technique. The delivery vehicles were nano-sized (Z avg = 109 ± 18 nm), had a narrow poly dispersity index (PDI = 0.19 ± 0.04), and a very high loading efficiency (94% ± 5%). Based on in vitro data, we evaluated this formulation for lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) in rabbit eyes. Following a single subconjunctival injection of the latanoprost loaded formulation, the eyes were clinically monitored and the IOP recorded. Results: Latanoprost-loaded EggPC liposomes demonstrated a high drug/lipid mole ratio of 0.181, remained stable for at least 6 months on storage (4°C), and at least 1 month at 25°C. A slow and sustained release of 60% of latanoprost was achieved by 14 days in the in vitro release study. The same formulation demonstrated a greater sustained IOP lowering effect compared with daily administration of topical latanoprost beyond 90 days (4.8 ± 1.5 vs 2.5 ± 0.9 mmHg; P < 0.001). No signs of inflammation were evident in the eyes from slit-lamp examination analysis. Conclusion: The loading required for a long-term sustained delivery of latanoprost for up to 90 days in the rabbit eyes was achieved with EggPC liposomes. A single injection of latanoprost-loaded EggPC liposomes can lower the IOP for up to 90 days, with a greater IOP lowering effect than daily topical administration of latanoprost.Published versio

    Correlated two-pion exchange and large-N(C) behavior of nuclear forces

    The effect of correlated scalar-isoscalar two-pion exchange (CrTPE) modes is considered in connection with central and spin-orbit parts of the NN force. The two-pion correlation function is coupled directly to the scalar form factor of the nucleon which we calculate in the large-N(C) limit where the nucleon can be described as a soliton of an effective chiral theory. The results for the central NN force show a strong repulsive core at short internucleon distances supplemented by a moderate attraction beyond 1 fm. The long-range tail of the central NN potential is driven by the the pion-nucleon sigma term and consistent with the effective σ\sigma meson exchange. The spin-orbit part of the NN potential is repulsive. The large-N(C) scaling behavior of the scalar-isoscalar NN interaction is addressed. We show that the spin-orbit part is O(1/N^2(C)) in strength relative to the central force resulting in the ratio 1/9\simeq 1/9 suggested by the 1/N(C) expansion for N(C)=3. The latter is in agreement with our numerical analysis and with the Kaplan-Manohar large-N(C) power counting. Unitarization of the ππ\pi \pi scattering amplitude plays here an important role and improves the tree level results. Analytical representations of the CrTPE NN potential in terms of elementary functions are derived and their chiral content is discussed.Comment: 29 pages, 7 figure

    Surface Geometric and Electronic Structure of BaFe2As2(001)

    BaFe2As2 exhibits properties characteristic of the parent compounds of the newly discovered iron (Fe)-based high-TC superconductors. By combining the real space imaging of scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/S) with momentum space quantitative Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED) we have identified the surface plane of cleaved BaFe2As2 crystals as the As terminated Fe-As layer - the plane where superconductivity occurs. LEED and STM/S data on the BaFe2As2(001) surface indicate an ordered arsenic (As) - terminated metallic surface without reconstruction or lattice distortion. It is surprising that the STM images the different Fe-As orbitals associated with the orthorhombic structure, not the As atoms in the surface plane.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figure

    Sustained Release of an Anti-Glaucoma Drug: Demonstration of Efficacy of a Liposomal Formulation in the Rabbit Eye

    Topical medication remains the first line treatment of glaucoma; however, sustained ocular drug delivery via topical administration is difficult to achieve. Most drugs have poor penetration due to the multiple physiological barriers of the eye and are rapidly cleared if applied topically. Currently, daily topical administration for lowering the intra-ocular pressure (IOP), has many limitations, such as poor patient compliance and ocular allergy from repeated drug administration. Poor compliance leads to suboptimal control of IOP and disease progression with eventual blindness. The delivery of drugs in a sustained manner could provide the patient with a more attractive alternative by providing optimal therapeutic dosing, with minimal local toxicity and inconvenience. To investigate this, we incorporated latanoprost into LUVs (large unilamellar vesicles) derived from the liposome of DPPC (di-palmitoyl-phosphatidyl-choline) by the film hydration technique. Relatively high amounts of drug could be incorporated into this vesicle, and the drug resides predominantly in the bilayer. Vesicle stability monitored by size measurement and DSC (differential scanning calorimetry) analysis showed that formulations with a drug/lipid mole ratio of about 10% have good physical stability during storage and release. This formulation demonstrated sustained release of latanoprost in vitro, and then tested for efficacy in 23 rabbits. Subconjunctival injection and topical eye drop administration of the latanoprost/liposomal formulation were compared with conventional daily administration of latanoprost eye drops. The IOP lowering effect with a single subconjunctival injection was shown to be sustained for up to 50 days, and the extent of IOP lowering was comparable to daily eye drop administration. Toxicity and localized inflammation were not observed in any treatment groups. We believe that this is the first demonstration, in vivo, of sustained delivery to the anterior segment of the eye that is safe and efficacious for 50 days

    Lowering the recommended maximal wall thickness threshold improves diagnostic sensitivity in Asians with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

    BACKGROUND: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is defined as left ventricular end-diastolic maximal wall thickness (WTMax) ≥15.0 mm, without accounting for ethnicity, sex, and body size. It is well-established that Asians have smaller hearts than do Caucasians. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to examine the implications of this single absolute WTMax threshold on the diagnosis of HCM in Asians. METHODS: The study consisted of 360 healthy volunteers (male: n = 174; age: 50 ± 12 years) and 114 genetically characterized patients with HCM (male: n = 83; age: 52 ± 13 years; genotype-positive, n = 39). All participants underwent cardiovascular magnetic resonance. WTMax was measured semiautomatically at end-diastole according to the standard 16 myocardial segments. RESULTS: Healthy male volunteers had increased WTMax compared with that of female volunteers (8.4 ± 1.2 mm vs 6.6 ± 1.1 mm, respectively; P 15.0 mm (specificity of 100% and sensitivity of 51%). Lowering WTMax thresholds to 10.0 mm in female patients and 12.0 mm in male patients did not affect specificity (100%) but significantly improved sensitivity (84%). Despite lower left ventricular mass, female patients with HCM demonstrated more features of adverse cardiac remodeling than did male patients: increased myocardial fibrosis, higher asymmetric ratio, and disproportionately worse myocardial strain. CONCLUSIONS: The study highlights cautious application of guideline-recommended WTMax to diagnose HCM in Asians. Lowering WTMax to account for ethnicity and sex improves diagnostic sensitivity without compromising specificity

    Orbital textures and charge density waves in transition metal dichalcogenides

    Low-dimensional electron systems, as realized naturally in graphene or created artificially at the interfaces of heterostructures, exhibit a variety of fascinating quantum phenomena with great prospects for future applications. Once electrons are confined to low dimensions, they also tend to spontaneously break the symmetry of the underlying nuclear lattice by forming so-called density waves; a state of matter that currently attracts enormous attention because of its relation to various unconventional electronic properties. In this study we reveal a remarkable and surprising feature of charge density waves (CDWs), namely their intimate relation to orbital order. For the prototypical material 1T-TaS2 we not only show that the CDW within the two-dimensional TaS2-layers involves previously unidentified orbital textures of great complexity. We also demonstrate that two metastable stackings of the orbitally ordered layers allow to manipulate salient features of the electronic structure. Indeed, these orbital effects enable to switch the properties of 1T-TaS2 nanostructures from metallic to semiconducting with technologically pertinent gaps of the order of 200 meV. This new type of orbitronics is especially relevant for the ongoing development of novel, miniaturized and ultra-fast devices based on layered transition metal dichalcogenides

    Multicultural mediations, developing world realities: Indians, Koreans and Manila’s entertainment media

    In this article, I examine the mediation of multiculturalism in the developing world city of Manila, the Philippines. Drawing on both a thematic analysis of the Manila-centric Philippine entertainment media and six focus group discussions with the city’s local Filipinos, I reveal that this instance of mediation is entangled with the broader discourses of the Philippine postcolonial nationalist project. For one, the mediation of multiculturalism in Manila tends to symbolically marginalize the city’s Indians and Koreans and, in so doing, reinforces existing negative discourses about them. I contend that this is linked to the locals’ preoccupation with establishing a unifying cultural identity that tends to make them elide the issue of their own internal cultural diversity, as well as of the increasing diasporic population of the city. Second, the said mediation also tends to valorize the lighter-skinned Koreans over the darker-skinned Indians. I posit that this is related to how the locals’ discourse of cultural homogeneity has resulted in their continued reluctance to publicly discuss the persistence of their unspoken skin-tone-based racial hierarchy not only of themselves, but also of their cultural others
