    Operation And Maintenance Of Sewage Treatment Plant In Doha

    The sewage treatment plant in Doha-South uses primary, secondary and tertiary treatment units for treating predominantly domestic sewage. The treated effluent, is used in irrigating agricultural farms for growing animal fodder and in landscape irrigation in Doha. The stabilized sludge is used as a soil conditioner. Samples are collected regularly at the plant inlet as well as before and after each treatment process. The raw sewage is characterized by high dissolved solids, medium strength BOD, low COD/BOD ratio, high concentration of chloride, sulphate and sulfide due to septic sewage. These are typical characteristics of the sewage in this region. The plant is designed, operated and maintained so as to ensure safety and reliability in the treated effluent quality. Any overloading of the treatment processes is handled effectively. The reclaimed • /ater quality meets the international standards and guidelines for landscape irrigation and farming. No evidence of disease amongst workers or the public has been observed from the water reuse

    Inter-observer variability in diagnosing radiological features of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage; a preliminary single centre study comparing observers from different specialties and levels of training

    BACKGROUND: A noncontrast computed tomography (CT) scan remains the initial radiological investigation of choice for a patient with suspected aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). This initial scan may be used to derive key information about the underlying aneurysm which may aid in further management. The interpretation, however, is subject to the skill and experience of the interpreting individual. The authors here evaluate the interpretation of such CT scans by different individuals at different levels of training, and in two different specialties (Radiology and Neurosurgery). METHODS: Initial nonontrast CT scan of 35 patients with aSAH was evaluated independently by four different observers. The observers selected for the study included two from Radiology and two from Neurosurgery at different levels of training; a resident currently in mid training and a resident who had recently graduated from training of each specialty. Measured variables included interpreter's suspicion of presence of subarachnoid blood, side of the subarachnoid hemorrhage, location of the aneurysm, the aneurysm's proximity to vessel bifurcation, number of aneurysm(s), contour of aneurysm(s), presence of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), infarction, hydrocephalus and midline shift. To determine the inter-observer variability (IOV), weighted kappa values were calculated. RESULTS: There was moderate agreement on most of the CT scan findings among all observers. Substantial agreement was found amongst all observers for hydrocephalus, IVH, and ICH. Lowest agreement rates were seen in the location of aneurysm being supra or infra tentorial. There were, however, some noteworthy exceptions. There was substantial to almost perfect agreement between the radiology graduate and radiology resident on most CT findings. The lowest agreement was found between the neurosurgery graduate and the radiology graduate. CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that although agreements were seen in the interpretation of some of the radiological features of aSAH, there is still considerable IOV in the interpretation of most features among physicians belonging to different levels of training and different specialties. Whether these might affect management or outcome is unclear

    Response function analysis of excited-state kinetic energy functional constructed by splitting k-space

    Over the past decade, fundamentals of time independent density functional theory for excited state have been established. However, construction of the corresponding energy functionals for excited states remains a challenging problem. We have developed a method for constructing functionals for excited states by splitting k-space according to the occupation of orbitals. In this paper we first show the accuracy of kinetic energy functional thus obtained. We then perform a response function analysis of the kinetic energy functional proposed by us and show why method of splitting the k-space could be the method of choice for construction of energy functionals for excited states.Comment: 11 page

    Assay Type Detection Using Advanced Machine Learning Algorithms

    The colourimetric analysis has been used in diversified fields for years. This paper provides a unique overview of colourimetric tests from the perspective of computer vision by describing different aspects of a colourimetric test in the context of image processing, followed by an investigation into the development of a colorimetric assay type detection system using advanced machine learning algorithms. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to define colourimetric assay types from the eyes of a machine and perform any colorimetric test using deep learning. This investigation utilizes the state-of-the-art pre-trained models of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to perform the assay type detection of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and lateral flow assay (LFA). The ELISA dataset contains images of both positive and negative samples, prepared for the plasmonic ELISA based TB-antigen specific antibody detection. The LFA dataset contains images of the universal pH indicator paper of eight pH levels. It is noted that the pre-trained models offered 100% accurate visual recognition for the assay type detection. Such detection can assist novice users to initiate a colorimetric test using his/her personal digital devices. The assay type detection can also aid in calibrating an image-based colorimetric classification

    Juicebox Provides a Visualization System for Hi-C Contact Maps with Unlimited Zoom

    Hi-C experiments study how genomes fold in 3D, generating contact maps containing features as small as 20 bp and as large as 200 Mb. Here we introduce Juicebox, a tool for exploring Hi-C and other contact map data. Juicebox allows users to zoom in and out of Hi-C maps interactively, just as a user of Google Earth might zoom in and out of a geographic map.     The Impact of Brick Kiln Operation to the Degradation of Topsoil Quality of Agricultural Land

    Brick kiln is a big environmental issue for the agriculture of Bangladesh as it was observed that the agricultural production in the soil close to the brick kiln was lesser than the same soil far from brick kiln. The study was conducted to assess the impact of brick kiln operation to the degradation of topsoil quality at Singair of Kalihati upazila in Tangail, Bangladesh, during the period of July to December 2013. The Soil was collected from areas close to the brick fields and far from the brick fields at a depth of 0-15 cm. The Electrical Conductance (EC) was found almost double in the soil samples close to the brick field than the soil samples far from brick field. The organic mattter content in the soil sample close to the brickfield was significantly lower than that of the far soil sample. The mean values of total N, available P and S were also significantly lower in the soil samples close to the brick kiln, 0.05%, 12.4, and 8.36 ppm respectively in the close soils, while 0.06%, 24.6, and 11.7 ppm respectively in the far soil. There were no significant changes observed in the other elements
