    Edu-Cloud: On-the-fly Employability Skills as a Service

    21st Century global job market competition requires Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) university curricula to support both state-of-the-art technical and soft skills learning to improve graduate employment. This necessitates the transformation of the current teaching and learning methodology powered by a social and col- laborative platform to provide a social co-learning environment. This social co-learning will provide students with opportunities for self-enrichment while supporting their technical skills and hands-on needs. The platform must also provide the required lab infrastructure for hands-on experimentation. This paper proposes the design and implementation of a cloud based platform called Edu-Cloud. The Edu-Cloud has been designed to provide automated resource provisioning and perform on-the-fly deployment of scalable virtual network functions to stream multimedia content closer to the global learners. This would help to meet the specific learning needs of a group of global interconnected students with similar learning skills and abilities. The benchmarking performance results show that the proposed framework works efficiently while reducing primary network traffic by deploying resources closer to the users and support scalability for a global deployment scenario

    Autonomous, Seamless and Resilience Carrier Cloud Brokerage Solution for Business Contingencies during Disaster Recovery

    The challenge of disaster recovery management for cloud based services is constantly evolving. The costs of cloud service downtime in the event of disaster striking is the subject of much international research. The key issue to resolve is developing suitably resilient and seamless live/realtime mechanisms for disaster recovery. In this paper, we have implemented a proof of concept for an autonomous and fault tolerant carrier cloud brokerage solution with resilient provisioning of on-the-fly cloud resources. When a disaster strikes, the proposed solution will trigger the migration of an entire IaaS from one cloud to another without causing any disruption to the business. In the event of non-availability of hosts for the deployment of virtual network functions for different business processes, an on-the-fly host selection mechanism is proposed and implemented to locate other active compute hosts without any disruptions. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed solution, we defined several usecase scenarios for each cloud service.     Latency minimization is a pivotal aspect in provision of real time services while adhering to Quality of Experience (QoE) parameters for assuring spectral efficiency. Edge Cloud Computing, being a potential research dimension in the realm of 5G networks, targets to enhance the network efficiency by harnessing activeness of both cloud computing and mobile devices in user's proximity. Keeping in view the far ranging impact of Edge Cloud Computing in future mobile generations, a comprehensive review of the prevalent Edge Cloud Computing frameworks and approaches is presented with a detailed comparison of its classifications through various QoS metrics (pertinent to network performance and overheads associated with deployment/migration). Considering the knowledge accumulated, procedures analysed and theories discussed, the paper provides a comprehensive overview on sate-of-the-art and future research directions for multi-access mobile edge computing

    Bio-Inspired Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles: Anticancer Drug Carrier, Catalytic and Bactericidal Potential

    Green route was adopted for the synthesis of stable silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) using Cenchrus ciliaris (C. ciliaris) seeds exudates. A variety of techniques were deployed for the characterization of the bio-synthesized Ag-NPs using ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer-UV_Vis, X-ray diffraction-XRD, scanning electron microscopy-SEM, transmission electron microscopy-TEM and fourier transform infrared spectrometry-FTIR. Increasing C. ciliaris concentration leads to a reduction in the particle size accompanied with agglomeration between the NPs. The results demonstrate that Ag-NPs (1-3CC) are less agglomerated and exhibited significant antimicrobial potential against various bacterial strains compared to 4-5CC. In this project performance of nanocatalyst was evaluated on toxic contaminants that exhibit excellent degradation of methylene blue (MB) and congo red (CR) by NaBH4 in an eco-friendly manner. In addition, Ag-NPs were loaded with anticancer drugs (ACD) [doxorubicin (Dox) hydrochloride, and daunorubicin (Dono)] to develop novel drug carrier with high loading capacity and rapid drug adsorption rate to hampered the side effects of ACD. The loading capacity of ACD was investigated as a function of contact time and adsorption dosages had a maximum adsorption capacity of 404.19 and 253.85 mg/g for Dox and Dono respectively.     Tremor in multiple sclerosis

    Tremor is estimated to occur in about 25 to 60 percent of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). This symptom, which can be severely disabling and embarrassing for patients, is difficult to manage. Isoniazid in high doses, carbamazepine, propranolol and gluthetimide have been reported to provide some relief, but published evidence of effectiveness is very limited. Most trials were of small size and of short duration. Cannabinoids appear ineffective. Tremor reduction can be obtained with stereotactic thalamotomy or thalamic stimulation. However, the studies were small and information on long-term functional outcome is scarce. Physiotherapy, tremor reducing orthoses, and limb cooling can achieve some functional improvement.     Irreversible coronary aneurysm presenting as acute coronary syndrome in a child with hypereosinophilic syndrome: A case report

    Hypereosinophilic syndrome is defined as persistent eosinophilia in the blood for more than 6 months, without any identifiable cause and with end-organ involvement evidence. Cardiac manifestations of HES include heart failure due to restrictive cardiomyopathy, arrhythmia, intraventricular thrombosis, and coronary artery involvement occurs frequently. In rare instances, coronary ectasia, aneurysms, or dissection can occur and cause morbidity and mortality in these patients. A coronary aneurysm occurs rarely in adult patients with HES but to our knowledge, this is the first report of this association in a 14-year-old boy who was presented to us as coronary aneurysm due to hypereosinophilic syndrome. © The Author(s), 2021.
