Sport events tourism: A perspective analysis for the tourism sector
Portugal has gradually emerged as a country holding excellent natural conditions for Tourism. It has a vast coastline extension, an extremely diversified landscape and has very interesting conditions to carry out a considerable number of different sporting activities, many of them being possible to be held all year round. Given the fact that there are not so many publications available in this area and taking into account a careful literature review on tourism, tourism sports events and on participants’ motivation, this chapter intends to define a set of necessary criteria used to study this subject in order to understand the ways and possible strategies for this sector development. This study aims to contribute for the success of this type of tourism. It is also necessary to make an incursion on the tourist’s profile to understand the main variables and characteristics in this type of events. The main goal of this study is to conceptualize the primary features tourists give major relevance to in this area. Based on these findings, the fundamental factors of why this type of events are consistent will successfully be understood and worked conducting this study to be a contribution for the sustainable growth of the industry’s revenue. This approach will be applied to the Portuguese context in this area.info:eu-repo/semantics/submittedVersio
Sport events tourism: an approach to the Portuguese case
Sports events assume a major importance in tourism. This relevance results particularly from the fact that there are numerous disciplines that can be practiced and nowadays tourists are traveling around the world to participate in multiple sport events. Considering that, it becomes imperative to study the different types of involvement that tourists may have in all of the involved processes. Particularly, Portugal is a country holding excellent natural conditions for Tourism and for the practice of a considerable number of different sporting activities, many of them possible to be held all year round. This study´s intention is to define a framework model which will allow the understanding of the main touristic motivations for tourists’ participation in sports events activities, particularly considering the Gammon & Robinson’s (1997) classification and Weed & Bull (2004). The main objective of the study is to create a consistent theoretical basis for the study of these events. There is already a possible outcome for the study based on its present stage resulting that, according to either the responsible agents for the sector and the ones for the specific described events, sports events in Portugal have been increasing and that Portugal is being much demanded for this kind of events.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Robot Coworkers: The Vision of Future Hoteliers
The purpose of this study is to understand how future employees in the hospitality and tourism industry envision the use of artificial intelligence in the organizations where they wish to work in the future. Through open-ended questions applied to undergraduate and master’s students in the area of tourism and hospitality, we capture their opinions when thinking about the partial or total use of robots in hospitality. Despite the increasing implementation of artificial intelligence in hospitality and tourism, existing research mainly focuses on current hoteliers and/or customers. However, anticipating how digital generations expect their future roles in a close engagement with robots allows researchers to predict and focus their attention on future problems. Their statements were subjected to a qualitative content analysis methodology, based on themes and sentiment. Participants expressed a negative view of the presence of robots in hospitality, mostly associated with a fear of job loss. Many also reported that interacting with robots is negative for both staff and customers due to robots’ lack of emotions. However, there is some division concerning the impact of robots on service quality: some believe that the service will be more efficient and with fewer failures; others believe that the limitations of robots will lead to worse service. The findings suggest that the acceptability and desirability of robotization may vary depending on the level of robotization in hotels, on the type of customer, and on the level of service provided.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Sport’s events: Rally de Portugal as a promoter of Porto tourism destination
The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of the Rally de Portugal in the tourism destination Porto, thus answering the question “What is the role of the Rally de Portugal in the tourism destination Porto?”.
In this study it was used a qualitative methodology, and the sampling method for convenience, according to the availability of the participants. Therefore, individual interviews were applied to two of the event organisers. The interview guide was divided into two sections: Planning and Organisation of the Rally de Portugal, and Porto as a Tourism Destination.
The holding of the Porto Street Stage has several positive impacts, being this event a successful one. However, for that to happen, it is necessary to follow three stages during the planning and organization of the event: budgeting, performance, and evaluation. This procedure takes over a year to manage, concerning the Rally de Portugal, or only a few months, regarding the Porto Street Stage. Events influence the economy, environment, culture, society, and politics of a destination [1]. Therefore, as the Rally de Portugal is an event, such influence is also present. However, there are no studies associated with the perspective of stakeholders on the Rally de Portugal as a promotor for the tourism destination Porto, justifying therefore the relevance of the present study.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
