Being Stalked: A Psychiatrist\u27s Perspective
It is only recently that stalking has been criminalized after some highly publicized forensic cases. Psychiatric focus has been on erotomania, and in this article we primarily highlight stalking as a separate entity with psychiatric and legal implications. The case reports reveal our vulnerability as therapists, and we hope will raise our awareness of stalking as a potentially dangerous situation. The legal statutes vary in different states, but our recommendations may provide guidelines towards formulating policies and procedures for the safety of healthcare providers

Integration of auditory and visual communication information in the primate ventrolateral prefrontal cortex
The integration of auditory and visual stimuli is crucial for recognizing objects, communicating effectively, and navigating through our complex world. Although the frontal lobes are involved in memory, communication, and language, there has been no evidence that the integration of communication information occurs at the single-cell level in the frontal lobes. Here, we show that neurons in the macaque ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (VLPFC) integrate audiovisual communication stimuli. The multisensory interactions included both enhancement and suppression of a predominantly auditory or a predominantly visual response, although multisensory suppression was the more common mode of response. The multisensory neurons were distributed across the VLPFC and within previously identified unimodal auditory and visual regions (O’Scalaidhe et al., 1997; Romanski and Goldman-Rakic, 2002). Thus, our study demonstrates, for the first time, that single prefrontal neurons integrate communication information from the auditory and visual domains, suggesting that these neurons are an important node in the cortical network responsible for communication
Role of Mothers\u27 Nutritional Knowledge, Nutritional Factors on the School Performance
A cross sectional study was carried out to investigate the effects of mothers\u27 nutritional knowledge, health and nutritional factors and socio-economic parameters on school performance among class five students of University Laboratory School, Dhaka. All of the eighty students were selected for this study. This study found there is a strong relationship between mother\u27s knowledge score and school performance. It was found that mothers\u27 knowledge score was responsible for 91.1 percent change in school performance. The mean BMI of the mothers was 20.44. We found that the school performance measured by class roll number of the students is significantly related with mothers BMI. There was an imperfect negative association between socio-economic parameters and school performance. But the relationship between the school performances with socio-economic parameters was strongly significant. This study also observed the relationship between Individual Dietary Diversity Score (IDDS) of respondent and marks achieved in class 4 final exam. It is alarming that consumption percentage were low for eggs (30) and milk and milk products (37.5), but majority of the students who consumed milk and milk products (63.3%) and eggs (66.7%) got the highest marks
Development of an Optimization-Based Atomistic-to-Continuum Coupling Method
Atomistic-to-Continuum (AtC) coupling methods are a novel means of computing
the properties of a discrete crystal structure, such as those containing
defects, that combine the accuracy of an atomistic (fully discrete) model with
the efficiency of a continuum model. In this note we extend the
optimization-based AtC, formulated in arXiv:1304.4976 for linear,
one-dimensional problems to multi-dimensional settings and arbitrary
interatomic potentials. We conjecture optimal error estimates for the
multidimensional AtC, outline an implementation procedure, and provide
numerical results to corroborate the conjecture for a 1D Lennard-Jones system
with next-nearest neighbor interactions.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figure
Pathological video game playing in Spanish and British adolescents: towards the exploration of Internet Gaming Disorder symptomatology
Research into problematic video gaming has increased greatly over the last decade and many screening instruments have been developed to identify such behaviour. This study re-examined the Problematic Videogame Playing [PVP] Scale. The objectives of the study were to (i) examine its psychometric properties in two European countries, (ii) estimate the prevalence of potential pathological gaming among adolescents in both countries, and (iii) assess the classification accuracy of the PVP Scale based on its symptomatology as a way of exploring its relationship with both the behavioural component model of addiction and the proposed Internet Gaming Disorder. The data were collected via a survey administered to 2,356 adolescents aged between 11 and 18 years from Spain (n=1,132) and Great Britain (n=1,224). Results indicated that the reliability of both versions was adequate, and the factorial and construct validity were good. Findings also showed that the prevalence of pathological gamers estimated with a rigorous cut-off point was 7.7% for Spanish and 14.6% for British adolescents. The scale showed adequate sensitivity, specificity and classification accuracy in both countries, and was able to differentiate between social and potential pathological gamers, and from their addictive symptomatology. The implications of these findings are discussed
The Serendiptichord: Reflections on the collaborative design process between artist and researcher
The Serendiptichord is a wearable instrument, resulting from a collaboration crossing fashion, technology, music and dance. This paper reflects on the collaborative process and how defining both creative and research roles for each party led to a successful creative partnership built on mutual respect and open communication. After a brief snapshot of the instrument in performance, the instrument is considered within the context of dance-driven interactive music systems followed by a discussion on the nature of the collaboration and its impact upon the design process and final piece
Semantic bottleneck for computer vision tasks
This paper introduces a novel method for the representation of images that is
semantic by nature, addressing the question of computation intelligibility in
computer vision tasks. More specifically, our proposition is to introduce what
we call a semantic bottleneck in the processing pipeline, which is a crossing
point in which the representation of the image is entirely expressed with
natural language , while retaining the efficiency of numerical representations.
We show that our approach is able to generate semantic representations that
give state-of-the-art results on semantic content-based image retrieval and
also perform very well on image classification tasks. Intelligibility is
evaluated through user centered experiments for failure detection
