    Hyperfiltration of ribes nigrum juice

    Get PDF
Blackcurrant juicc is very popular among consumers due to its high content of mineral salts, C-vitamin. P-. BI-, B2- vitamin and provitamin A also. The scope of this study was to examine the applicability of a pilot scale reverse osmosis system for the concentration of different enzyme pretreated blackcurrant juice by AFC - 80 polyamide tubular membrane. With two pectinase enzyme preparation (Panzym Super E and Trenolin Rot DF) of the fresh juice for enzymatic depectinization was investigated. For description of the concentration process and the osmotic pressure model has been used. Van't Hoff model can be applied for the calculation of osmotic pressure differences dependence on the difference of concentrate and permeate concentration. Rautenbach model can be also used, which detennines the osmotic pressure in the knowledge of the concentration

Dairy waste water treatment by combining ozonation and nanofiltration

The aim of this investigation was to examine the applicability of the membrane technique and the effect of preozonation in dairy waste water treatment technology. The best degree of surfactant removal from model anionic surfactant solution by nanofiltration was achieved at 20 degrees C and 40 bar. Investigations on the effects of ozone treatment of the waste water indicated that preozonation decreased the flux and increased the chemical oxygen demand and surfactant removal efficiency. Ozone treatment enhanced the biodegradability of the retentate from 68.8% to 96.4%

Factorial design analysis of phosphate removal from model solution by iron-loaded pomegranate peel

    Get PDF
This study investigated the removal of phosphate (PO4 3- ) from disodium hydrogen phosphate (Na2HPO4) solution using Iron-loaded pomegranate peel (IL-PP) as a bio-adsorbent. The full factorial design using Minitab19 software was applied to analyze the effects of influencing parameters and their interactions and derive the equation that adequately describe PO4 3- removal by IL-PP. Effective PO4 3- removal up to 90% was achieved within 60 min, at pH 9 and 25 °C temperature using a 150 mg dose of IL-PP

Characterization of polymer membranes by contact angle goniometer

The wider applications of all membrane separation processes have a main obstacle, namely the fouling phenomena, which have to be understood in more details. Surface properties, hydrophilic and hydrophobic characteristics of a polymer membrane can be determined by measuring the contact angle. The hydrophilicity of a membrane has an important influence on its performances, like permeate flux, membrane rejection or membrane fouling characteristics. In our work the contact angles of three kinds of typically commercial ultrafiltration (UF-PES-4), nanofiltration (NE-90) and reverse osmosis (LFC-30) membranes were firstly investigated and compared by contact angle goniometer measurements. The relationships between the contact angles were researched by well considering the effects of membrane sample pretreatments by distilled water prewetting and water droplet volume. Furthermore, the effects of prewetting, water droplet contact time on different molecular weight cut-off ultrafiltration membranes’ surface and droplet pH on the contact angle values were also investigated. Moreover, fresh, clean and dry, as well as pretreated, and fouled UF membranes were also measured and compared
