    SALT observations of southern post-novae

    We report on recent optical observations of the stellar and the nebular remnants of 22 southern post-novae. In this study, for each of our targets, we obtained and analysed long-slit spectra in the spectral range 3500-6600 A and in Hα\alpha+NII narrow-band images. The changes in the emission lines' equivalent widths with the time since the outburst agree with earlier published results of other authors. We estimated an average value α\alpha=2.37 for the exponent of the power law fitted to the post-novae continua. Our observations clearly show the two-component structure of the V842 Cen expanding nebulae, owing to the different velocities of the ejected matter.     Lifetime investigations of a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery system connected to a wind turbine for forecast improvement and output power gradient reduction

    Lithium Ion batteries and especially Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries can be characterized by high power densities, relatively long life-time, no maintenance and a lot of research currently being done on increasing their performance. Therefore, they seem to be a good choice for integration with wind turbines. However, the current Lithium Ion energy storage price and its limited lifetime are the main obstacles to the integration of storage technologies with wind turbines. That is why proper lifetime estimation of the lithium ion batteries, working with mission-profile characteristics for specific services, is very important, not only for optimisation of the revenues but also for correct scheduling of the maintenance jobs. This paper analyzes the connection of LFP battery storage systems into wind turbines, with a high focus on the lifetime of LFP batteries for selected services.Postprint (published version

    MN Draconis - peculiar, active dwarf nova in the period gap

    Context: We present results of an extensive world-wide observing campaign of MN Draconis. Aims: MN Draconis is a poorly known active dwarf nova in the period gap and is one of the only two known cases of period gap SU UMa objects showing the negative superhumps. Photometric behaviour of MN Draconis poses a challenge for existing models of the superhump and superoutburst mechanisms. Therefore, thorough investigation of peculiar systems, such as MN Draconis, is crucial for our understanding of evolution of the close binary stars. Methods: To measure fundamental parameters of the system, we collected photometric data in October 2009, June-September 2013 and June-December 2015. Analysis of the light curves, O−CO-C diagrams and power spectra was carried out. Results: During our three observational seasons we detected four superoutburts and several normal outbursts. Based on the two consecutive superoutbursts detected in 2015, the supercycle length was derived P_sc = 74 +/- 0.5 days and it has been increasing with a rate of P_dot = 3.3 x 10^(-3) during last twelve years. Based on the positive and negative superhumps we calculated the period excess epsilon = 5.6% +/- 0.1%, the period deficit epsilon_ = 2.5% +/- 0.6%, and in result, the orbital period P_orb = 0.0994(1) days (143.126 +/- 0.144 min). We updated the basic light curve parameters of MN Draconis.
