Pirmās daļas otrajā nodaļā tiek pētīta militārās vienības vēstures gaita no 1863. līdz 1869.gadam. The bachelor thesis „The Role of Shinsengumi Military Corps in the History and Culture of Japan” reflects on the role that Shinsengumi military corps played during the final stage of Edo period and the impact of their image on popular culture. The topic was chosen based on the fact that for the last ten years the Shinsengumi image has been spreading worldwide simultaneously with the boom in popularity for Japanese pop-culture products. The image portrayed by Pop-culture is romantized and in it reality ofter overlaps with fiction. However, those who are interested have little chance to evaluate the accuracy of the portrayal of history due to the lack of authoritative sources in any language but Japanese. The goal of this thesis was to explore the history of Shinsengumi using the available Western and Japanese authoritative sources and to compare them to the image being presented in modern culture as well as to evaluate the impact the Shinsengumi image has had on Japanese pop-culture. It has been concluded that the widely spread interpretations of the Shinsengumi image has raised interest about history in the female part of society, however, it has missed an important nuance in that the historical prototypes did not only support the shogunate system. The thesis consists of two parts. The first part explores the historical aspects of the research. The first chapter of the first part explores the situation in the country that became the precondition for the creation of the military corps. The second chapter of the first part explores the history of the corps from 1863 to 1869. The third chapter of this part explores the rules and qualities specific to Shinsengumi military corps. The second part of the thesis explores the interpretations of the Shinsengumi military corps image and the influence it has on modern Japanese society. The Bachelor thesis is 46 pages long without counting the title page, contents, appendix and bibliography

Hanle effect and electron spin polarization in InAs/GaAs quantum dots up to room temperature

Hanle effect in InAs/GaAs quantum dots (QDs) is studied under optical orientation as a function of temperature over the range of 150-300 K, with the aim to understand the physical mechanism responsible for the observed sharp increase of electron spin polarization with increasing temperature. The deduced spin lifetime Ts of positive trions in the QDs is found to be independent of temperature, and is also insensitive to excitation energy and density. It is argued that the measured Ts is mainly determined by the longitudinal spin flip time (T1) and the spin dephasing time (T2 *) of the studied QD ensemble, of which both are temperatureindependent over the studied temperature range and the latter makes a larger contribution. The observed sharply rising of the QD spin polarization degree with increasing temperature, on the other hand, is shown to be induced by an increase in spin injection efficiency from the barrier/wetting layer and also by a moderate increase in spin detection efficiency of the QD.funding agencies|Swedish Research Council| 621-2011-4254
