    Gender-Specific and U-Shaped Relationship Between Serum Uric Acid and All-Cause Mortality Among Chinese Older Adults: A National Population-Based Longitudinal Study

    Objectives: This study aimed to prospectively investigate gender-specific relationship between hyperuricemia and all-cause mortality among Chinese older adults.Methods: The study was based on the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS) 2008–2018, a prospective nationwide cohort of older adults in China. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% CIs for all-cause mortality. Restricted cubic splines (RCS) were conducted to explore the dose-response relationship between SUA levels and all-cause mortality.Results: For older women, compared to the participants in the third quartile of SUA level, those in the highest quartile of SUA was associated with significantly higher risk of all-cause mortality in the fully adjusted model (HR: 1.41, 95% CI: 1.03–1.92). No significant associations between SUA levels and all-cause mortality were observed in older men. The present study further found a U-shaped non-linear relationship between SUA levels and all-cause mortality in both sexes of older population (P for non-linear <0.05).Conclusions: This study provided prospective epidemiological evidence for the predictive role of SUA on all-cause mortality among the Chinese aging population over 10 years of follow-up, while revealing considerable gender-related differences

    Measurement of thickness and refractive index of transparent material synchronously based on chromatic confocal sensor

    A defined refractive index is essential to measure the thickness of transparent materials with a chromatic confocal sensor (CCS). To overcome this limitation, a new measuring model is proposed by configuring a motor to drive the CCS for movement and placing a reflector behind the sample. This innovative approach enables the measurement of thickness and refractive index of transparent material synchronously through geometric calculations based on peak signals from different surfaces. Experimental results show that the model can achieve an average thickness measurement deviation of ±0.4µm and an average refractive index measurement deviation of ±0.005, making it highly suitable for industrial applications in thin film manufacturing sectors such as new energy vehicles, flexible displays, biomedicine, and more

    Cornus alba has been used as antiphlogistic, hemostatic and diuretic treatments in Korea, and which is one of the most important ornamental shrubs in China. Here, we reported the complete chloroplast genome sequence of C. alba. The size of the chloroplast genome is 158,451 bp in length, including a large single copy region (LSC) of 87,778 bp, a small single copy region (SSC) of 18,927 bp, and a pair of inverted repeated regions of 25,873 bp. The C. alba chloroplast genome encodes 132 genes, including 85 protein coding genes, 38 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic tree showed that C. alba with the species of C. macrophylla and C. sanguinea formed a strongly supported clade

    Acceleration Mechanism of Steel Slag Hydration Using THEED

    In this paper, the strength development of a pure steel slag (SS) system with various concentrations of N,N,N′,N′-Tetrakis-(2-hydroxyethyl) ethylenediamine (THEED) was investigated. The hydration kinetics, pore structure and microstructure of SS pastes with and without THEED were characterized to underscore the working mechanism of THEED. Results show that THEED additions significantly increase the 3, 7 and 28 days compressive strength of hardened SS pastes. The enhancement effect increases with the dosage of THEED. At a concentration of 2000 ppm, THEED increased the compressive strength by 733%, 665%, and 545% at 3, 7 and 28 days, respectively. It is confirmed that THEED additions improve the hydration degree of SS by accelerating hydration of the aluminum phase (C3A, PDF-38-1429; C12A7, PDF-48-1882) and C2F,( PDF 38-0408) to generate Mc (PDF-41-0219) and Pa (PDF-30-0222) in the presence of CaCO3. Also, the hydration degree of silicates is increased by THEED. In this way, THEED additions refine the pore structure of hardened SS paste by increasing the pore volume with a diameter below 300 nm to achieve enhancement. The chelating effect of THEED results in promoting dissolution of SS, which provides the driving force for accelerating SS hydration

It tolerated up to 100 mg phenanthrene l(-1) and degraded 50% of 50 mg phenanthrene l(-1) over 10 days. The presence of phenanthrene caused a prolonged lag phase (2-3 days) in cell growth and affected the photopigments biosynthesis, while DMSO (the solvent for phenanthrene) had no impact on cell growth. The cell surface hydrophobicity of the isolate was also increased
