    Equivalence of several descriptions for 6d SCFT

    We show that the three different looking BPS partition functions, namely the elliptic genus of the 6d N=(1,0)\mathcal{N}=(1,0) Sp(1)Sp(1) gauge theory with 1010 flavors and a tensor multiplet, the Nekrasov partition function of the 5d N=1\mathcal{N}=1 Sp(2)Sp(2) gauge theory with 1010 flavors, and the Nekrasov partition function of the 5d N=1\mathcal{N}=1 SU(3)SU(3) gauge theory with 1010 flavors, are all equal to each other under specific maps among gauge theory parameters. This result strongly suggests that the three gauge theories have an identical UV fixed point.     We propose 5-brane webs for 5d N=1\mathcal{N}=1 G2G_2 gauge theories. From a Higgsing of the SO(7)SO(7) gauge theory with a hypermultiplet in the spinor representation, we construct two types of 5-brane web configurations for the pure G2G_2 gauge theory using an O5-plane or an O5~\widetilde{\text{O5}}-plane. Adding flavors to the 5-brane web for the pure G2G_2 gauge theory is also discussed. Based on the obtained 5-brane webs, we compute the partition functions for the 5d G2G_2 gauge theories using the recently suggested topological vertex formulation with an O5-plane, and we find agreement with known results.Comment: v1: 38 pages, 32 figures, v2: published versio

    Discrete theta angle from an O5-plane

    We consider 5d N=1\mathcal{N}=1 Sp(1)Sp(1) gauge theory based on a brane configuration with an O5-plane. At the UV fixed point, the theory with no matter enjoys enhanced global symmetry SU(2)SU(2) or U(1)U(1) depending on the discrete theta angle θ=0,π\theta=0, \pi (mod 2π2\pi). A naive brane configuration with an O5-plane, however, does not distinguish two different theories, as it describes the weak coupling region. We devise a technique for computing 5d Seiberg-Witten curve of the two theories from the brane web with an O5-plane. Their Seiberg-Witten curves show that their M5 configurations under the presence of OM5-planes are different. The decompactification limit of each Seiberg-Witten curve also shows distinct phase structures in their Coulomb branch leading to significantly different (p,q)(p,q) 5-brane configurations with an O5-plane in the strong coupling region.Comment: v1: 45 pages, 36 figures, v2: published version, v3: a typo correcte

    A new 5d description of 6d D-type minimal conformal matter

    We propose a new 5d description of the circle-compactified 6d (DN+4,DN+4)(D_{N+4}, D_{N+4}) minimal conformal matter theory which can be approached by the 6d N=(1,0)\mathcal{N}=(1,0) Sp(N)Sp(N) gauge theory with Nf=2N+8N_f=2N+8 flavors and one tensor multiplet. Compactifying the brane set-up for the 6d theory, we arrive at a 5-brane Tao diagram for 5d N=1\mathcal{N}=1 SU(N+2)SU(N+2) theory of the vanishing Chern-Simons level with 2N+82N+8 flavors. We conjecture that the 6d theory is recovered as the UV fixed point of this 5d theory. We show that the global symmetry of this 5d theory is SO(4N+16)SO(4N+16) identical to that of the 6d theory by analyzing the 7-brane monodromy. By using the Tao diagram, we also find the instanton fugacity is exactly given by the circle radius. By decoupling flavors in this 5d theory, one can obtain all the 5d SU(N+2)SU(N+2) gauge theories of various Chern-Simons levels and corresponding enhanced global symmetries at the 5d UV fixed point.Comment: v1: 21 pages, 10 figures. v2: mirror correction and references added. v3: published versio

    Statistical Analysis of the Metropolitan Seoul Subway System: Network Structure and Passenger Flows

    The Metropolitan Seoul Subway system, consisting of 380 stations, provides the major transportation mode in the metropolitan Seoul area. Focusing on the network structure, we analyze statistical properties and topological consequences of the subway system. We further study the passenger flows on the system, and find that the flow weight distribution exhibits a power-law behavior. In addition, the degree distribution of the spanning tree of the flows also follows a power law.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
