    Simulation of a heat pump model using SIMAN

    A Heat pump is a system that follows the vapor compression cycle in which a vapor is compressed, then condensed to a liquid, following which the pressure is dropped so that fluid can evaporate at a low pressure. The system is considered to be a continuous system as there is a refrigerant whose state changes continuously throughout the system. This thesis work presents the application of the Simulation program SIMAN in a continuous modeling environment. The Refrigeration cycle was chosen as the Heat Pump as there is a continuous flow of the refrigerant through the system and hence was an excellent system for a continuous simulation problem. The Variables in the Heat Pump model were written as State variables in Fortran and was linked with SIMAN and the whole process was then controlled by the SIMAN processor

    This work aimed to investigate the effects of different proportions of cardanol ethyl ester (CEE) with diesel in a single cylinder diesel engine on the performance, emissions and combustion parameters. Results show improved performance for blends up to 50% of CEE (B50) content with increase in NOx emissions compared to neat diesel. B25 blends recorded a maximum brake thermal efficiency of 30.71% against 29.13% for the neat diesel at high load. Addition of 2% of isoamyl nitrate with diesel-CEE blends favour higher proportion of CEE to be employed in diesel engine with reduced emissions

    Online Bidding Behaviour And Loss Aversion In Cloud Computing Markets: An Experiment

    The last few years have witnessed a rapid growth in commoditization and consumption of IT services particularly due to the growing acceptance of cloud computing services. This in turn has led to newer forms of pricing the cloud services such as dynamic pricing. Infact, spot pricing, a dynamic pricing scheme has become mainstream. Cloud consumers using these schemes need to place their bids inorder to procure computing instances. Most of extant research on cloud dynamic pricing focuses on resource allocation problems and bidding strategies. We identify the need to look at behavioural biases of bidders to bring in a holistic perspective to cloud dynamic pricing discussions. In this paper, we conduct an experiment to elicit the impact of a behavioural bias namely, loss aversion, on a cloud consumer’s bidding behaviour. We discuss the social implications of our result to cloud consumers and the economic implications for cloud providers

    A POTENT CYTOTOXICITY AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF ZINC OXIDE NANOPARTICLES SYNTHESIZED BY LEAF OF IPOMOEA PES-CAPRAE (L.) R. BR.

    Objective: The present study was conducted to investigate the cytotoxicity and antimicrobial activity of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) synthesized as eco-friendly technique from the leaf extract of Ipomoea pes-caprae (L.) R. Br. against human lung adenocarcinoma (A549), brain tumor (U87) cells, and human pathogens Salmonella typhi, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Bacillus subtilis. Materials and Methods: The work was carried out with varying precursor (plant extract) volume to optimize the synthesis of ZnO NPs and it was confirmed by ultraviolet (UV)-visible spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and atomic force microscope (AFM) characterization techniques and evaluate its cytotoxicity activity by 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2- thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl--tetrazolium bromide assay method, antimicrobial activity by disk diffusion method. Results: A peak at 320 nm with maximum intensity was observed at temperature of 80°C with pH of 8.0 in UV-visible spectroscopy confirmed the formation of ZnO NPs and we calculate the size of ZnO NPs from XRD data found as 15.8 nm. The FTIR analysis evaluated that the presence of different functional groups is carboxyl, amine, and phenolic compounds of leaves extract which are involved in the reduction of zinc ions and acts as capping the ZnO NPs. AFM microgram confirms that ZnO NPs were in nanorange and spherical in nature. The cytotoxicity activity of A549 and U87 cell lines treated with various concentrations of ZnO NPs showed a dose-dependent increase in cell inhibition and the half maximal inhibitory concentration value was calculated to be 7.8 Όg/ml. The antibacterial activity of selected pathogens shows higher zone of inhibition. Conclusion: The present study reveals that synthesized ZnO NPs capping with various bioactive compounds present in the leaf of I. pes-caprae show promising activity of cancer cell lines and antimicrobial agents; hence, further detailed study may lead to develop at a novel phytomedicine for the anticancer and antimicrobial drugs

    Cloud Computing spot markets have enabled the users to make use of the spare computing capacities of the cloud providers at a relatively cheaper price which in turn has given the providers such as Amazon and Google an opportunity to earn extra money by auctioning-off the underutilized resources. However, resource availability is a problem in the spot market owing to spot-price fluctuations. Ignoring the customer’s preference is one of the potential reasons behind this. In this paper, we propose a time preference (value of service at different points of time) based stochastic integer linear programming model to allocate the cloud resources among the cloud users with a view to maximizing the revenue of cloud providers from the spot-market

    CloudNeg: An autonomous multi issue negotiation system, with preference elicitation component, for trading cloud services

    Cloud services provide its users with flexible resource provisioning. But in the current market, a user has to choose from a limited set of configurations at a fixed price. This paper presents an autonomous negotiation system termed CloudNeg for negotiating cloud services. CloudNeg provides buyers and sellers of cloud services with autonomous agents to negotiate on the specifications of a cloud instance, including price, on their behalf. These agents elicit their buyers’ time preferences and use them in negotiations. Further, this paper presents two artifacts: a negotiation algorithm and a prototype which together form CloudNeg
