Trapping Horizons in the Sultana-Dyer Space-Time

The Sultana-Dyer space-time is suggested as a model describing a black hole embedded in an expanding universe. Recently, in \cite{0705.4012}, its global structure is analyzed and the trapping horizons are shown. In the paper, by directly calculating the expansions of the radial null vector fields normal to the space-like two-spheres foliating the trapping horizons, we find that the trapping horizon outside the event horizon in the Sultana-Dyer space-time is a past trapping horizon. Further, we find that the past trapping horizon is an outer, instantaneously degenerate or inner trapping horizon accordingly when the radial coordinate is less than, equal to or greater than some value.Comment: no figures, 5 pages; PCAS and key words are adde

    Get PDF
The intestinal bacterial diversity of Stichopus japonicus was investigated using 16S ribosomal RNA gene (rDNA) clone library and Polymerase Chain Reaction/Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE). The clone library yielded a total of 188 clones, and these were sequenced and classified into 106 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) with sequence similarity ranging from 88 to 100%. The coverage of the library was 77.4%, with approximately 88.7% of the sequences affiliated to Proteobacteria. Gammaproteobacteria and Vibrio sp. were the predominant groups in the intestine of S. japonicus. Some bacteria such as Legionella sp., Brachybacterium sp., Streptomyces sp., Propionigenium sp. and Psychrobacter sp were first identified in the intestine of sea cucumber

Novel fungal genera and species associated with the sooty blotch and flyspeck complex on apple in China and the USA

Fungi in the sooty blotch and flyspeck (SBFS) complex cause blemishes on apple and pear fruit that result in economic losses for growers. The SBFS fungi colonise the epicuticular wax layer of pomaceous fruit but do not invade the cuticle. Fungi causing fuliginous and punctate mycelial types on apple are particularly difficult to identify based on morphological criteria because many species in the SBFS complex share the same mycelial phenotypes. We compared the morphology and nuclear ribosomal DNA phylogeny (ITS, LSU) of 11 fungal strains isolated from SBFS blemishes on apple obtained from two provinces in China and five states in the USA. Parsimony analysis, supported by cultural characteristics and morphology in vitro, provided support to delimit the isolates into three novel genera, representing five new species. Phaeothecoidiella, with two species, P. missouriensis and P. illinoisensis, is introduced as a new genus with pigmented endoconidia in the Dothideomycetes. Houjia (Capnodiales) is introduced for H. pomigena and H. yanglingensis. Although morphologically similar to Stanjehughesia (Chaetosphaeriaceae), Houjia is distinct in having solitary conidiogenous cells. Sporidesmajora (Capnodiales), based on S. pennsylvaniensis, is distinguished from Sporidesmium (Sordariomycetes) in having long, multiseptate conidiophores that frequently have a subconical, darkly pigmented apical cell, and very long, multi-euseptate conidia

Ferromagnetic resonance study of sputtered Co|Ni multilayers

We report on room temperature ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) studies of [tt Co∣2t|2t Ni]Γ—\timesN sputtered films, where 0.1≀t≀0.60.1 \leq t \leq 0.6 nm. Two series of films were investigated: films with same number of Co∣|Ni bilayer repeats (N=12), and samples in which the overall magnetic layer thickness is kept constant at 3.6 nm (N=1.2/tt). The FMR measurements were conducted with a high frequency broadband coplanar waveguide up to 50 GHz using a flip-chip method. The resonance field and the full width at half maximum were measured as a function of frequency for the field in-plane and field normal to the plane, and as a function of angle to the plane for several frequencies. For both sets of films, we find evidence for the presence of first and second order anisotropy constants, K1K_1 and K2K_2. The anisotropy constants are strongly dependent on the thickness tt, and to a lesser extent on the total thickness of the magnetic multilayer. The Land\'e g-factor increases with decreasing tt and is practically independent of the multilayer thickness. The magnetic damping parameter Ξ±\alpha, estimated from the linear dependence of the linewidth, β–³H\triangle H, on frequency, in the field in-plane geometry, increases with decreasing tt. This behaviour is attributed to an enhancement of spin-orbit interactions with tt decreasing and in thinner films, to a spin-pumping contribution to the damping.Comment: 18 pages, 13 figure

AlH3 between 65-110 GPa: implications of electronic band and phonon structures

A first-principles density-functional-theory method has been used to reinvestigate the mechanical and dynamical stability of the metallic phase of AlH3 between 65-110 GPa. The electronic properties and phonon dynamics as a function of pressure are also explored. We find electron-phonon superconductivity in the cubic Pm-3n structure with critical temperature Tc = 37 K at 70 GPa which decreases rapidly with the increase of pressure. Further unlike a previously calculated Tc value of 24 K at 110 GPa, we do not find any superconductivity of significance at this pressure which is consistent with experimental observation.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures Keywords: AlH3, Electronic structure, Phonon dynamics, Superconductivity PACS number(s): 62.50.-p, 63.20.kd, 74.10.+v, 74.20.P

Birman-Wenzl-Murakami Algebra and the Topological Basis

In this paper, we use entangled states to construct 9x9-matrix representations of Temperley-Lieb algebra (TLA), then a family of 9x9-matrix representations of Birman-Wenzl-Murakami algebra (BWMA) have been presented. Based on which, three topological basis states have been found. And we apply topological basis states to recast nine-dimensional BWMA into its three-dimensional counterpart. Finally, we find the topological basis states are spin singlet states in special case.Comment: 11pages, 1 figur

Paclitaxel-octreotide conjugates inhibit growth of human non-small cell lung cancer cells in vitro

    No full text
Aim: To evaluate the effects of paclitaxel-octreotide conjugates on the growth of cultured non-small cell lung cancer cells. Methods: RT-PCR was performed to detect mRNA for the subtypes of the human somatostatin receptor (SSTR) using specific primers. MTT-based cytotoxicity assay was used to evaluate the cell viability after treatment with paclitaxel and the conjugates. Cell cycle perturbations were determined using a Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorter. Results: Non-small cell lung cancer A549 and Calu-6 cells expressed mRNA for SSTR2 and SSTR5. Paclitaxel and the conjugates effectively inhibited the growth of A549 and Calu-6 cells in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. In SSTR-negative fibroblasts, the conjugates were less cytotoxic than paclitaxel. The conjugates and paclitaxel could induce the increase of G2/M phase ratio in A549 cells. Conclusion: The paclitaxel-octreotide conjugates can be used as selective-targeted chemotherapeutic agents for treating non-small cell lung cancer. A REAL TIME MONITORING MODEL OF THE CALCIUM CARBONATE FOULING INDUCTION PERIOD BASED ON THE CONDUCTANCE TITRATION

    Get PDF
A new method has been developed to monitor the calcium carbonate fouling induction period (CCFIP) in real time. Based on the conductance titration, this paper investigated the forming process of CCFIP by a staticdynamic combined simulation experiment unit. With the help of titration analysis (that is titrimetry), an accurate definition of CCFIP and the corresponding real time monitoring model were built up. The investigation results show that the proposed model applies not only to measure the CCFIP in real time, but also applies to an investigation of the influence of various factors on the CCFIP

State transfer in dissipative and dephasing environments

By diagonalization of a generalized superoperator for solving the master equation, we investigated effects of dissipative and dephasing environments on quantum state transfer, as well as entanglement distribution and creation in spin networks. Our results revealed that under the condition of the same decoherence rate Ξ³\gamma, the detrimental effects of the dissipative environment are more severe than that of the dephasing environment. Beside this, the critical time tct_c at which the transfer fidelity and the concurrence attain their maxima arrives at the asymptotic value t0=Ο€/2Ξ»t_0=\pi/2\lambda quickly as the spin chain length NN increases. The transfer fidelity of an excitation at time t0t_0 is independent of NN when the system subjects to dissipative environment, while it decreases as NN increases when the system subjects to dephasing environment. The average fidelity displays three different patterns corresponding to N=4r+1N=4r+1, N=4rβˆ’1N=4r-1 and N=2rN=2r. For each pattern, the average fidelity at time t0t_0 is independent of rr when the system subjects to dissipative environment, and decreases as rr increases when the system subjects to dephasing environment. The maximum concurrence also decreases as NN increases, and when Nβ†’βˆžN\rightarrow\infty, it arrives at an asymptotic value determined by the decoherence rate Ξ³\gamma and the structure of the spin network.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figure

Optimal quantum pump in the presence of a superconducting lead

    Get PDF
We investigate the parametric pumping of a hybrid structure consisting of a normal quantum dot, a normal lead and a superconducting lead. Using the time dependent scattering matrix theory, we have derived a general expression for the pumped electric current and heat current. We have also derived the relationship among the instantaneous pumped heat current, electric current, and shot noise. This gives a lower bound for the pumped heat current in the hybrid system similar to that of the normal case obtained by Avron et al
