Set-Based Concurrent Engineering process within the LeanPPD environment
This paper presents a newly defined set-based concurrent engineering process,
which the authors believe addresses some of the key challenges faced by
engineering enterprises in the 21st century. The main principles of Set-Based
Concurrent Engineering (SBCE) have been identified via an extensive literature
review. Based on these principles the SBCE baseline model was developed. The
baseline model defines the stages and activities which represent the product
development process to be employed in the LeanPPD (lean product and process
development) project. The LeanPPD project is addressing the needs of European
manufacturing companies for a new model that extends beyond lean manufacturing,
and incorporates lean thinking in the product design development process
Protección colectiva contra caídas para trabajadores de la construcción
Construction safety regulations require protection of workers against falls from elevations. The collective fall protection systems, in most cases, allow workers to move freely without wearing individual fall protection gear. The collective systems which prevent falls are preferred over the fall arrest systems. The latter are employed only if prevention of falls is not feasible. Arresting a fall always carries with it a residual risk of injury to the fall victim. The collective fall arrest systems are employed primarily during construction of electricity or telecomm towers. The aim of this paper has been a review of the collective FPS employed in the construction industry.
Comparative analysis of Kotlin and Java languages used to create applications for the Android system
This publication presents the results of a comparative analysis of Java and Kotlin programming languages used to create mobile applications for system Android. The analysis covers performance aspects such as CPU load, RAM load, as well as the compilation and execution times. Aspects such as code structure, availability of libraries, supported databases, popularity and community support were taken under consolidation
Dilatometric investigations of Fe – Cr – Mo – C system
Sintering behavior in high purity nitrogen and mixture of 5% H2-95% N2 of Fe-(Cr)-(Mo)-C system was investigated. The mixtures, differ from chromium, molybdenum and carbon content were prepared in Turbula mixer. Then, using single-action pressing in a rigid die at pressing pressure 400 MPa, green compacts with density level 5.9±0.17 g/cm3 were pressed. Sintering was carried out in a horizontal push rod dilatometer Netzsch 402E at 1120 and 1250°C for 60 min. Heating and cooling rates were 10 and 20°C/min., respectively. After heating, compacts were isothermal sintered at 1120 or 1250°C for 60 minutes an cooled up to 200°C, then isothermally hold for 60 minutes and definitely cooled to the room temperature. Pure nitrogen and mixture of 5% H2-95% N2 were employed as sintering atmospheres. During investigations the influence of isothermal sintering temperature, chemical composition of sintering atmosphere, chromium, molybdenum and carbon content was followed by dilatometry. The aim of investigations was to determine transformation temperatures. It was shown that the dimensional changes occurring during heating and isothermal sintering and the final density of sintered compacts are influenced by sintering parameters and the alloying elements concentration in powder mixture
Pattern Comparator Trigger (PACT) for the muon system of the CMS experiment
The general scheme for the fast, pipelined first level trigger on high pt muons in the CMS detector at LHC is presented. The prototype PACT system was tested in the high momentum muon beams in the RD5 experiment during 1993/94 runs. The obtained efficiency curves are shown
An innovative cost modelling system to support lean product and process development
This paper presents a cost modelling system for lean product and process development to support proactive decision making and mistake elimination at the design stage. The foundations of the system are based upon three lean product and process development enablers, namely: Set-based concurrent engineering, knowledge-based engineering, and mistake proofing (Poka-yoke). The development commenced with an industrial field study of eleven leading European industries from the aerospace, automotive, telecommunication, medical and domestic appliance sectors. Based on the requirements of industrial collaborators, the developed system comprises six modules: value identification, manufacturing process/machines selection, material selection, geometric features specification, geometric features and manufacturability assessment, and manufacturing time and cost estimation. The work involved the development of a feature-based cost estimation method for the resistance spot welding process. The developed system was finally validated using an industrial case study. The developed system has the capability to provide estimates related to product cost and associated values concurrently, facilitate decision making, eliminate mistakes during the design stage, and incorporate ‘customer voice’ during a critical decision making stage
