    High Accuracy Phishing Detection Based on Convolutional Neural Networks

    The persistent growth in phishing and the rising volume of phishing websites has led to individuals and organizations worldwide becoming increasingly exposed to various cyber-attacks. Consequently, more effective phishing detection is required for improved cyber defence. Hence, in this paper we present a deep learning-based approach to enable high accuracy detection of phishing sites. The proposed approach utilizes convolutional neural networks (CNN) for high accuracy classification to distinguish genuine sites from phishing sites. We evaluate the models using a dataset obtained from 6,157 genuine and 4,898 phishing websites. Based on the results of extensive experiments, our CNN based models proved to be highly effective in detecting unknown phishing sites. Furthermore, the CNN based approach performed better than traditional machine learning classifiers evaluated on the same dataset, reaching 98.2% phishing detection rate with an F1-score of 0.976. The method presented in this pa-per compares favourably to the state-of-the art in deep learning based phishing website detection

    Quality of service optimization of multimedia traffic in mobile networks

    Mobile communication systems have continued to evolve beyond the currently deployed Third Generation (3G) systems with the main goal of providing higher capacity. Systems beyond 3G are expected to cater for a wide variety of services such as speech, data, image transmission, video, as well as multimedia services consisting of a combination of these. With the air interface being the bottleneck in mobile networks, recent enhancing technologies such as the High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), incorporate major changes to the radio access segment of 3G Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS). HSDPA introduces new features such as fast link adaptation mechanisms, fast packet scheduling, and physical layer retransmissions in the base stations, necessitating buffering of data at the air interface which presents a bottleneck to end-to-end communication. Hence, in order to provide end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees to multimedia services in wireless networks such as HSDPA, efficient buffer management schemes are required at the air interface. The main objective of this thesis is to propose and evaluate solutions that will address the QoS optimization of multimedia traffic at the radio link interface of HSDPA systems. In the thesis, a novel queuing system known as the Time-Space Priority (TSP) scheme is proposed for multimedia traffic QoS control. TSP provides customized preferential treatment to the constituent flows in the multimedia traffic to suit their diverse QoS requirements. With TSP queuing, the real-time component of the multimedia traffic, being delay sensitive and loss tolerant, is given transmission priority; while the non-real-time component, being loss sensitive and delay tolerant, enjoys space priority. Hence, based on the TSP queuing paradigm, new buffer managementalgorithms are designed for joint QoS control of the diverse components in a multimedia session of the same HSDPA user. In the thesis, a TSP based buffer management algorithm known as the Enhanced Time Space Priority (E-TSP) is proposed for HSDPA. E-TSP incorporates flow control mechanisms to mitigate congestion in the air interface buffer of a user with multimedia session comprising real-time and non-real-time flows. Thus, E-TSP is designed to provide efficient network and radio resource utilization to improve end-to-end multimedia traffic performance. In order to allow real-time optimization of the QoS control between the real-time and non-real-time flows of the HSDPA multimedia session, another TSP based buffer management algorithm known as the Dynamic Time Space Priority (D-TSP) is proposed. D-TSP incorporates dynamic priority switching between the real-time and non-real-time flows. D-TSP is designed to allow optimum QoS trade-off between the flows whilst still guaranteeing the stringent real-time component’s QoS requirements. The thesis presents results of extensive performance studies undertaken via analytical modelling and dynamic network-level HSDPA simulations demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed TSP queuing system and the TSP based buffer management schemes

    Islam and constitutionalism in Nigeria: 1999 constitution and the challenges of Islamic law and practices

    Adherents of the two major religions, Islam and Christianity, sometimes relegate any state law that conflicts with their practice/faith. They would rather obey God than man1. In Geron Ali v. Emperor2, an Indian Muslim decapitated two persons and presented the heads to his religious instructor who asked for only one head. In Ashiruddin v. King3, the prisoner killed his son to secure a divine favour. Religious extremists will not have their religious teachings and practices ‘bow’ to any constitution. This paper, employs the analytical method, using journals, internet based materials, case law, historical records etc., to identify examine faith in the sharia law and the place of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (henceforth referred to as CFRN) in the hearts of Islamic faithful.     Design and Implementation of a Measurement-Based Policy-Driven Resource Management Framework For Converged Networks

    This paper presents the design and implementation of a measurement-based QoS and resource management framework, CNQF (Converged Networks QoS Management Framework). CNQF is designed to provide unified, scalable QoS control and resource management through the use of a policy-based network management paradigm. It achieves this via distributed functional entities that are deployed to co-ordinate the resources of the transport network through centralized policy-driven decisions supported by measurement-based control architecture.     EVALUATION OF TOTAL ANNUAL COSTS OF HEAT EXCHANGER NETWORKS USING MODIFIED PINCH ANALYSIS

    This study presents pinch analysis of some heat exchanger networks (HENs) problems using Hint integration (HINT) software. Three examples reported to have been solved using different approaches by various researchers to obtain the least possible total annual cost (TAC) were solved using the Hint software.  In this work, the use of remaining problem analysis (RPA) contained in the heat integration software was used to carry out matching and the general optimization of the networks for minimum TAC for the three problems solved. The results obtained after solving the first problem using RPA based heat integration gave a minimum total annual cost (TAC) of 237,510/yr.whichisthefourthwhencomparedwiththelowestsolutionthatshowstheminimumTACof237, 510 /yr. which is the fourth when compared with the lowest solution that shows the minimum TAC of 235.400 /yr. in that example. However, the TAC obtained in solving problem  2 and 3 were 562,333/yr.and562, 333 /yr. and 2.881 M/yr. respectively and they are the least total annual cost obtained when compared with what have been obtained using mathematical programming and non-RPA based Hint software. The overall assessment of the various approaches used to solve these problems when compared with the results obtained in this study shows that HINT software is able to obtain TAC that are within the same range as those obtained using mathematically based technique. http://dx.doi.org/10.4314/njt.v35i3.1

    Some religio-cultural practices against the property rights of women and children in Nigeria and specified African countries

    Most African ethnic groups treat women as property to their husbands and could be inherited1 but without inheritance rights at all or with unequal  rights tilted in favour of males2 especially in rural areas3. This inquiry  sought the impediments to the realisation of the customary inheritance rights of African women and children and how to overcome them. Review of articles in journals, internet based materials consisting of reports of  interviews of victims of inhuman customary practices, books, statutes and case law from some African countries was the analytical approach employed in this inquiry. Latest legislative and judicial attitudes were found to be intolerant of these practices but ignorance, poverty, etc. of victims is the setback.     Synthesis and Characterization of Starch-Graft-Acrylamide Hydrogel for Oral Drug Delivery

    In this research, starch was extracted from fresh sweet potato and was used to prepare starch-g-acrylamide hydrogel using free radical polymerization method with potassium per sulphate and N’N-Methylene bisacrylamide as initiator and cross-linker, respectively. The swelling capacity and pH sensitivity of the synthesized hydrogel were investigated in solutions of various pH (1-12). The drug loading and release experiment was also carried out using promethazine (PMZ) as the model drug at 25oC and 37oC, respectively while the release study was carried out in an enzyme-free simulated gastric intestinal fluid (SGF) and simulated intestinal fluid (SIF). The result showed a 905% swelling at pH 11, suggesting increased swelling capacity at higher pH values. Drug loading result indicated 99% of the drug was entrapped by the hydrogel as confirmed by UV-visible spectrophotometry. SIF and SGF Simulation indicated a 24% and 9% drug release for the first ten hours. At the end of 48 hours the release was 96% and 89%, respectively indicating the hydrogel released more promethazine in SIF than in SGF. The results obtained in this work suggest that starch-graft-acrylamide hydrogel is a potential vehicle for oral drug delivery. Keywords: Starch, Acrylamide, Hydrogel, Drug delivery
