    Telework in Romania. Current State and Sustainable Socio-Economic Effects of Its Development

    The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the current stage of implementation of telework in Romania and to determine potential positive and sustainable effects generated by its development on a large scale. The research methodology used is based on descriptive analysis, comparative analysis, but also on econometric analysis. The general results obtained show that Romania registers a very low level of telework employees, this being influenced, not only by the low share of those with tertiary education and high skilled professionals, but also by the fact that most Romanian employees do not want to practice this type of work. The results also showed that telework can generate significant economic and social benefits. The potential solutions we have identified for the sustainable development of the telework phenomenon in Romania include investments in tertiary education and awareness campaigns among both employees and companies, regarding the positive effects that can be obtained through telework and business development

    The activity of supply and that of exploitation of the spare parts from the composition of the equipments that realize the preparation of the Jiu Valley coal influence its production costs. In this respect, this paper deals with, during some periods of time, initially determined, the specific costs of the spare parts for the sieves, pumps and pipes, equipments, and also auxiliary equipments that are part of the endowment of the Exploitation of the Jiu Valley coal preparation. The results got can be used to rank and determine the causes which determine the high expenses of some spare parts categories as well as the possibility to reduce the production costs within E.P.C.V.J

    Carbohydrates Impact in Type 2 Diabetes in Cats

    Diabetes is one of the most commonly diagnosed endocrine diseases in cats. Of all types of diabetes, type II is the most frequent one, 80% of the diabetic cats have type II diabetes. Even though it’s a multifactorial disease, obesity was found to be the most important risk factor in developing diabetes, obesity increases the chances of developing this disease to up to 4 times. The study was conducted on a number of 9 cats with uncomplicated diabetes with the purpose of monitoring the effects of the commercial dry food (with a high percentage of carbohydrates) and the commercial canned food (with a higher percentage of proteins and a lower percentage of carbohydrates) on the glycemic index. For this study, we considered the occasional administration of raw chicken and turkey meat because it wasn’t given for a long enough period of time. The diet is very important for diabetic cats because a lot of sick cats enter remission after a couple of months of being fed wet canned food and they no longer need the administration of insulin, but owners are instructed to carefully monitor glycaemia for the rest of the pet’s life

    Archaeological research in Miercurea Sibiului – Petris¸ (Sibiu County, Romania): the Starčevo-Cris¸ level during 1997–2005 (a preliminary report)

    The article presents an archaeological description of the Starčevo-Cris close complexes at Miercurea Sibiului-Petris, one of the Earliest Neolithic settlements in Romania. The site belongs to the early wave of First Temperate Neolithic communities who reached Romania. Each complex is presented through plans, statistical ceramic analyses and some representative materials. White painting is present here in the earlier complexes.Članek predstavlja arheološko obravnavo zaprtih kompleksov kulture Starčevo-Cris na najdišču Miercurea Sbiului-Petris, enem najzgodnejših neolitskih najdišč v Romuniji.     Global random walk solvers for fully coupled flow and transport in saturated/unsaturated porous media

    In this article, we present new random walk methods to solve flow and transport problems in saturated/unsaturated porous media, including coupled flow and transport processes in soils, heterogeneous systems modeled through random hydraulic conductivity and recharge fields, processes at the field and regional scales. The numerical schemes are based on global random walk algorithms (GRW) which approximate the solution by moving large numbers of computational particles on regular lattices according to specific random walk rules. To cope with the nonlinearity and the degeneracy of the Richards equation and of the coupled system, we implemented the GRW algorithms by employing linearization techniques similar to the -scheme developed in finite element/volume approaches. The resulting GRW -schemes converge with the number of iterations and provide numerical solutions that are first-order accurate in time and second-order in space. A remarkable property of the flow and transport GRW solutions is that they are practically free of numerical diffusion. The GRW solvers are validated by comparisons with mixed finite element and finite volume solvers in one- and two-dimensional benchmark problems. They include Richards’ equation fully coupled with the advection-diffusion-reaction equation and capture the transition from unsaturated to saturated flow regimes.publishedVersio

    Solute transport in aquifers with evolving scale heterogeneity

    Transport processes in groundwater systems with spatially heterogeneous properties often exhibit anomalous behavior. Using first-order approximations in velocity fluctuations we show that anomalous superdiffusive behavior may result if velocity fields are modeled as superpositions of random space functions with correlation structures consisting of linear combinations of short-range correlations. In particular, this corresponds to the superposition of independent random velocity fields with increasing integral scales proposed as model for evolving scale heterogeneity of natural porous media [Gelhar, L. W. Water Resour. Res. 22 (1986), 135S-145S]. Monte Carlo simulations of transport in such multi-scale fields support the theoretical results and demonstrate the approach to superdiffusive behavior as the number of superposed scales increases.publishedVersio

    Alterations in Calcium Signaling Pathways in Breast Cancer

    Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women and the fifth cause contributing to death due to the cancer condition. It is essential to deeply understand the complex cellular mechanisms leading to this disease. There are multiple connections between calcium homeostasis alterations and breast cancer in the literature, but no consensus links the mechanism to the disease prognosis. Among the cells contributing to the breast cancer are the breast telocytes, which connect through gap junctions to other cells, including cancer cells and myoepithelial cells. Multiple proteins (i.e., voltage-gated calcium channels, transient receptor potential channels, STIM and Orai proteins, ether à go-go potassium channels, calcium-activated potassium channels, calcium-activated chloride channels, muscarinic acetylcholine receptors, etc.) coupled with calcium signaling pathways undergo functional and/or expression changes associated with breast cancer development and progression, and might represent promising pharmacological targets. Unraveling the mechanisms of altered calcium homeostasis in various breast cells due to the cancer condition might contribute to personalized therapeutic approaches
