MIGRANTS: BETWEEN TWO ADAPTIVE STRATEGIES AND BETWEEN TWO CULTURES
The paper presents factors that lead to adaptive strategies which can be located on the continuum between isolation (ethnic enclaves) and assimilation in host countries. Adaptive strategies of migrants and their integration in host countries depend on: type of migration; origins of migration, kind of migration: family, group, individual, students, employees; qualifications of migrants; short- and long-term migration, etc. These strategies also depend on effective protection of human rights in host countries’ social policy and civil practice. By analysing and comparing the adaptive strategies utilised by different types of migrant in different host countries and coupling their choice with the actual social policy defining the scope of socio-cultural integration, it is possible to identify the objective and subjective factors that influence a successful model of a social or socio-cultural integration
Dwa oblicza życia imigrantów w enklawie etnicznej
This paper identifies the social impact and the pros and cons of immigrants’ life in an ethnic enclave and analyses aspects that are conducive to integration with the host society, as well as those that obstruct members of the enclave to fully integrate. Concepts of social, cultural and migration capitals and the importance of migration networks in the adaptation of immigrants were taken into consideration and the study focused on the relationship between the impact of the enclave and the possibilities of social advancement in the host society. An attempt was also made to show the social effects of the pressure exerted by the enclave on areas of economic, cultural, political self-exclusion.Integration with the host society is contingent upon the existence of a bridging capital and the building of networks connecting migrants with the external environment, consequently enabling their wider participation in society.W opracowaniu wskazano społeczne skutki, czyli blaski i cienie życia imigrantów w enklawie etnicznej, wskazano również na te aspekty, które sprzyjają, i te, które stanowią przeszkodę w integracji członków enklawy społeczeństwie przyjmującym.

Utilizing the qualifications of the Poznań Agricultural Academy graduates
The point of reference for the analysed processes of educating the students
and utilizing the qualifications of graduates should be the level of satisfying
broadly understood present and future social needs. On the one hand one is faced
here with economic, cultural, social and political needs determined by the present
state and developmental tendencies of the society, on the other — the needs an
individual (a graduate and his/her family) expects to satisfy. Somewhere between
the two groups the needs, aims, possibilities, preferences and expectations of institutions
are situated. They are to some extent the reflection and articulation
of macrosocial phenomena, yet they also result from the complex internal formal
and informal structures of those institutions, from their technical basis, organization,
social conditions, the style of management, etc. In view of the research particular
importance should be ascribed to two institutions: the workplace and the college.
The study, conducted in 1987, was focused on a diagnosis of the state of utilizing
the qualifications of graduates of the Agricultural Academy in Poznań (agriculture
with agricultural mechanization and zootechnics: classes of 1970, 1974,
1980, 1984). There were 760 questionnaires. The formulation of the diagnosis was
accompanied by the compilation of a set of objective and subjective factors stimulating the course of professional careers and the factors responsible for the
waste of professional qualifications. The following aspects of a professional career
were taken into account: 1) the consistence between the job and the line and
specialization of studies; 2) territorial placement of the graduates; 3) types of
workplaces employing the graduates; 4) professional stabilization; 5) professional
success (types of promotions). The subject of characterization were also: living
conditions and the adequacy of studies to the performed job. The graduates opinions
were taken into account with respect to the latter issue.
The conclusions have partly a character of hypotheses for they were formulated
only on the basis of the graduates' accounts research. They will be subject
to subsequent verification after the employers' expectations, the needs of the
employing institutions and the employers' requirements with respect to the adequacy
of studies to particular jobs are taken into account.Digitalizacja i deponowanie archiwalnych zeszytów RPEiS sfinansowane przez MNiSW w ramach realizacji umowy nr 541/P-DUN/201
On the possibilities of analysing the effects of education
The analysis of the works of Polish authors dealing with the problems of education,
personality, consciousness or attitudes revals several problems and controversies
appearing in the research practice. The assumption of a given standpoint
on consecutive levels of analysis creates various possibilities of deciding about
the effects of education. Indirect inference as to: 1) the shape of personality on the
basis of declared values, opinions, views, 2) the efficiency of education on the basis
of personality transformations, is sometimes burdened with error; in effect it influences
the accuracy of social prognoses.
The effects of education may be evaluated from macro-, mezzo- and microsocial
perspective by relating them 1) to the aims of particular groups, serving to
stabilize and develop the structure, 2) to the "needs" of global society.
The fact of an individual's participation in different social structures allows to
isolate, on the level of each of the structures, the sets of values-norms characteristic
of each of them, and to analyse only conflict situations (e.g. the appearance, on
a microsocial level, of the norms contradictory with those characteristic of mezzoand
macro-levels) leaving out the situation of the existence of different yet not
contradictory norms. In this way one may avoid the danger inherent in analysing
personality, attitudes, hierarchies of values and interpretations concerning the question
whether isolated values are interiorized or declared, sensed or accepted, as
well as avoid the shortcomings of generally applied research techniques.Digitalizacja i deponowanie archiwalnych zeszytów RPEiS sfinansowane przez MNiSW w ramach realizacji umowy nr 541/P-DUN/201
Structural transformations of future village in students' opinions
In the investigations involving 230 students carried out at the Agricultural
Academy in Poznań, in the period of 1978 - 1979 an attempt was made to determine
attitudes, opinions and views on transformations of future village manifested
among students of that institution.
The followtinig discrimination of villaige socializing factor's was adopted: the
high-grade factors are: the existence of socialized farms and the increase in processes
of cooperation and integration leading to diminishing division between
collective and Stalte farms, The secondary factor's are these forms of productive
cooperation which can strengthen links between farmers i.e. forming productive
groups, agricultural associations and their cooperatives, taking over pre- and
postproductional processes from individual farmers by Sitate or cooperative institutions,
growth of communal self government's participatioin in a Village life. The
tertiary factors of socializing resulted by transformations in a village community
are: loss of bi-oicupationality, increase in educational status of country dwellers,
developement of own socio-cultural base, decrease in migrational processes, increments
of leisure time, change of a female role in a village community, rise of
income, nullifying civilizaitional gaps between city land village.
A large differenciation of opinions was found in the examined population in
the respect of a future structural form of the Polish agriculture. There were
hypotheses formulated and verified on the effect of factors related to a social
background (city, village), parents employment sector, possession, and size of a farm, education and parents membership in the socio-political organizations, and
factors related to the present environment of the examined person, mean grades,
social subjects' grades, membership in the socio- political organizations..
The following three visions can be observed in the examined population in
the relation to perceived domination of a certain type of farms: State farms,
cooperative farms., individual (private) farms, a large percentage of students is
linking future of Polish agriculture with a developement of private farming.
This is a result of noticing errors made in the socialized sector and economic
ineffectiveness of that form of production.
Preffered domination of individual farms is connected with approving of internal
structural transformations of these farms, technical and organizational progress
as well as of improvement of technical equipment, agrarian structure and
increase of self government and integration among farmers.
The highest consent in the examined population is observed with regards to
the tertiary factors of socializing, while the highest differenciation of opinions
is brought atout toy the high- grade factors. A high concurrence of pursuits and
ideas is also found, it is an indicator of a degree of optimism among students.
Agents effecting types of voiced opinions are related mostly to the life position
of the examined students i.e.: type of background community, social background,
parents employment sector, farm possessing by parents, future sector and place
of employment.Digitalizacja i deponowanie archiwalnych zeszytów RPEiS sfinansowane przez MNiSW w ramach realizacji umowy nr 541/P-DUN/201
