Memorable Ecotourism Experiences (MEEs) playa key role in obtaining tourists’ satisfaction and loyalty in sustaining the ecotourism destination. Although, MTEs has been recognised as a crucial area of tourism studies since 2010, but still there is a lack of study that explore all dimensions or constructs of MTEs. Most of the recent studies only tested eight significant constructs and ignored the remaining constructs. Therefore, this study aim to examine the dimensions that influences the memorable ecotourism experiences in Taman Negara, Pahang Malaysia. Subsequently, to propose a MEEs model. In order to fill the literature gap, a pilot test was conducted in April 2018 with a sample of 40 tourists to Taman Negara, Pahang, Malaysia. These preliminary results indicated that 15 out of 22 constructs (hedonism, knowledge, meaningfulness, local culture, novelty-familiarity, involvement, refreshing, destination attributes, service, participation, freeing, adverse feeling, socialization, nature and education awareness) were significantly influencing the MEEs in Taman Negara. The study recommends further studies to be conducted to explore all 22 proposed constructs in a variety of ecotourism sector

The COVID-19 outbreak has caused a global turmoil which restricted movement and consequently, diminishing domestic and international travel. One that is severely affected is ecotourism in National Parks, that involves visiting fragile, pristine and undisturbed natural areas. One of the major concerns for ecotourists in destination decision-making is travel risk that could affect their safety. This study aims to examine their risk perception and how it affects the behaviour of ecotourists in Taman Negara National Park, Malaysia. The data was collected from 406 respondents and analysed using structural equation modelling. It is concluded that risk perception affects tourists’ decision-making, whereby health and safety information preference is the strongest predictor, and media’s influence has a very significant connection. This study has the potential of contributing to the management of ecotourism destinations in times of crisis. It also fills the literature gap on risk perceptions of ecotourists’ during the COVID-19 pandemic

Tourism experiences at tourism destinations are essential to sustain the tourists’ destination loyalty. Studies have shown that the experiences at ecotourism destinations are different from tourism destinations because these experiences cultivate the visitors’ or tourists’ concerns towards both the nature and environment. Although previous studies were conducted in Taman Negara, most of them focused on tourists’ satisfaction, conservation and attractions with limited studies on Memorable Tourism Experiences (MTEs). Furthermore, past studies have also asserted the limitations in MTEs constructs and the literature gap between MTEs, travel motivation, place attachment, tourists’ behavioural intention and actual behaviour. Thus, the objective of this study is to introduce and examine Memorable Ecotourism Experiences (MEEs) in Taman Negara, Kuala Tahan. The study further analyses the mediating effects of MEEs between travel motivation, place attachment and behavioural intention; direct effects between behavioural intention and actual behaviour; and moderating effects of socio-demographic factors of ecotourists and travel characteristics. A total of 387 questionnaires were collected with purposive sampling technique and were used in the analysis. PLS-SEM was utilised to examine the direct and mediating effects between constructs; while Hierarchical Multiple Regression (HMR) analysis was used to evaluate the moderating effects. The results clearly indicate that travel motivation has direct effect on behavioural intention; while place attachment does not has direct effect on ecotourists’ behavioural intention. In addition, MEEs mediate the relationships between travel motivation, place attachment and ecotourists’ behavioural intention. Whereas moderating analysis revealed that the purpose of visiting (leisure, adventure and visiting family and friends) significantly moderated the ecotourists’ behavioural intention; in comparison to age, nationality, own vehicle, hotels and family and friends house which significantly moderated the ecotourists’ actual revisit and pro- environmental behaviour. Hence, it can be concluded that the mediating effects of MEEs enhance the relationships between travel motivation, place attachment and behavioural intention. In addition, this study has introduced seven new sub- constructs (freeing, adverse feelings, sociable, service, planning, education awareness and nature) of MEEs which significantly influence the ecotourists’ behavioural intention. Most of the socio-demographic variables and trip characteristics moderate the ecotourists’ actual behaviour compared to behavioural intention. Thus, the outcomes of the study provide new insights to ecotourism policy makers and stakeholders in designing forthcoming ecotourism plans, policies and regulations. The respective authorities of Taman Negara, stakeholders and service providers should create, manage and practice MEEs at ecotourism destinations in order to enhance ecotourists’ intention to revisit and pro-environmental behaviour. Taman Negara management should also focus on creating additional activities and services to generate memorable experiences and enhance the destination loyalty of visitors or tourists to the park

This article provides an overview of the current literature on memorable tourism experiences (MTE) in the ecotourism sector. Malaysia, as a developing country, is improving its policies in the ecotourism sector to attract more international tourists and to generate national revenue. Thus, creating memorable tourism experiences among tourists was identified as an essential tool to attract new tourists and to keep existing ones as repeat visitors. Even though several studies were conducted on MTEs, there is lack of literature, especially focussing on the ecotourism sector. The literature review used the following keywords: ‘Experience Economy-Progression of Economic Value and Four Realms of Experience,’ ‘Tourism experience’ and ‘Memorable Tourism Experiences.’ The study used content analysis to examine 14 MTE articles. The findings indicated that only four MTE studies were conducted in the ecotourism sector (natural park, boating sector, wildlife and winter tourism) in the past seven years. Furthermore, the analysis highlighted that only seven key variables of MTEs (hedonism, novelty, meaningfulness, local culture, refreshment, involvement and knowledge) were frequently used in these articles, even though the originator initiated 18 variables. Therefore, the study recommends more studies be conducted by including all 18 variables and destination attributes. Additionally, new indicators, such as nature and education awareness should be added to more fully develop the Memorable Ecotourism Experiences (MEEs) conceptual model

Meaningful community participation in tourism is considered a prerequisite for sustainable development at any tourist destination. Due to the growing desirability for development on more sustainable grounds in developed and developing countries, a considerable surge in the emphasis on significance of community participation in tourism sector has been observed in recent years. This led to an increase in the publication of literature on this important and widely recognized phenomenon, both for better understanding and practical reasons. However, there is still no clear picture of the degree and direction in which community participation research in tourism has grown. To address this issue, the current study tried to comprehensively look into the existing state of research in this area of study. This article provides a detailed insight into the literary landscape of community participation research in tourism. A bibliometric analysis of 649 articles screened out of 1434 publications retrieved from Scopus database was conducted. The systematic descriptive and network analysis of bibliometric data using the Biblioshiny and VOSviewer tools yielded some intriguing results. The findings confirm the centrality of community participation in achieving the goal of sustainable development of tourism. This paper while filling the unaddressed gap of the absence of a comprehensive bibliometric study on community participation research in tourism, improves our understanding of the literary landscape and thematic evolution of academic discourse during nearly four decades. Furthermore, a quintuple helix model is proposed to explore and understand the dynamic literary landscape and how it grows and evolves, thus facilitating future research in this area. Management implications: 1. Meaningful community participation is the key to the sustainable development of tourism at any destination. 2. Despite the complexities involved, the potential role of community participation in mitigating the negative impacts of tourism and its contribution towards achieving sustainable development goals cannot be overlooked. 3. Meaningful community participation should be complemented by socio-economic and political empowerment at tourist destinations. 4. The rapid growth in literature on community participation as explained by the quintuple helix model points towards the growing realization among academicians and practitioners regarding the need for meaningful engagement of destination communities in tourism development
