Journal ArticleGuanylate cyclase-activating protein (GCAP) is a novel Ca(2+)-binding protein that stimulates synthesis of cGMP in photoreceptors. Molecular cloning of human and mouse GCAP cDNA revealed that the known mammalian GCAPs are more than 90% similar, consist of 201-205 amino acids, and contain three identically conserved EF hand Ca2+ binding sites. The sequence homology with recoverin, a related photoreceptor Ca(2+)-binding protein, is less than 35%. In situ hybridization in primate retinas shows that the GCAP gene is expressed exclusively in photoreceptor inner segments. To investigate the GCAP gene structure, we probed 10 eucaryotic genomic DNAs with a bovine GCAP cDNA under stringent conditions. The results demonstrate that the GCAP gene has been well conserved during evolution of vertebrate species and that each gene is most likely present as a single copy. By genomic cloning, polymerase chain reaction, mapping, and direct sequencing, we show that the human GCAP gene spans approximately 6 kilobases of genomic DNA, and consists of four exons (> 250, 146, 94, and 800 base pairs) separated by three introns (4.5 kilobases, 370 base pairs, and 347 base pairs). Using human/hamster hybrid panels and fluorescent in situ hybridization, the GCAP gene was localized to the short arm of chromosome 6 (p21.1)

Combined surface tension and buoyancy-driven convection in a rectangular open cavity in the presence of a magnetic field

A numerical study is conducted to understand the effect of magnetic field on the flow driven by the combined mechanism of buoyancy and thermocapillarity in a rectangular open cavity filled with a low Prandtl number fluid (Pr = 0.054). The two side walls are maintained at uniform but different temperatures θh and θc (θh > θc), while the horizontal top and bottom walls are adiabatic. A finite difference scheme consisting of the ADI (Alternating Direction Implicit) method, which incorporates upwind differencing for non-linear convective terms and the SLOR (Successive Line Over Relaxation) method are used to solve the coupled non-linear governing equations. Computations are carried out for a wide range of Grashof number Gr ranging from 2 à 104 to 2 à 106, Marangoni number Ma from 0 to 105 and Hartmann number Ha from 0 to 100. The detailed flow structure and the associated heat transfer characteristics inside the cavity are presented. At large Ma, two counter-rotating cells are formed at the upper half and lower half of the enclosure. As Ha increases, the temperature field resembles that of a conduction type and the streamlines are elongated in nature in the horizontal direction. The upper cell is crowded and stretched along the free surface. The average Nusselt number increases with Ma but decreases with Ha. © 1995

Vehicle Detection and Speed Estimation Using Semantic Segmentation with Low Latency

Computer vision researchers are actively studying the use of video in traffic monitoring. TrafficMonitor uses a stationary calibrated camera to automatically track and classify vehicles on roadways. In practical uses like autonomous vehicles, segmenting semantic video continues to be difficult due to high-performance standards, the high cost of convolutional neural networks (CNNs), and the significant need for low latency. An effective machine learning environment will be developed to meet the performance and latency challenges outlined above. The use of deep learning architectures like SegNet and Flownet2.0 on the CamVid dataset enables this environment to conduct pixel-wise semantic segmentation of video properties while maintaining low latency. In this work, we discuss some state-of-the-art ways to estimating the speed of vehicles, locating vehicles, and tracking objects. As a result, it is ideally suited for real-world applications since it takes advantage of both SegNet and Flownet topologies. The decision network determines whether an image frame should be processed by a segmentation network or an optical flow network based on the expected confidence score. In conjunction with adaptive scheduling of the key frame approach, this technique for decision-making can help to speed up the procedure. Using the ResNet50 SegNet model, a mean IoU of "54.27 per cent" and an average fps of "19.57" were observed. Aside from decision network and adaptive key frame sequencing, it was discovered that FlowNet2.0 increased the frames processed per second to "30.19" on GPU with such a mean IoU of "47.65%". Because the GPU was utilised "47.65%" of the time, this resulted. There has been an increase in the speed of the Video semantic segmentation network without sacrificing quality, as demonstrated by this improvement in performance

Automated Speed and Lane Change decision-making Model using Support Vector Machine

One of the major obstacles that the auto industry must overcome is the rise of autonomous vehicles. The study of lane-changing is an important part of this problem. Previous studies on autonomous vehicle lane changes have predominantly focused on lane change path planning and path monitoring, with limited attention given to the autonomous vehicle's lane change decision-making process. This paper introduces a novel Lane Change Decision-Making Model for autonomous vehicles using the Support Vector Machine (SVM) method. The suggested model employs real-time sensor data to assess whether or not a lane change is possible, taking into account the proximity of other vehicles (cars, buses, motorbikes), and adjusting speed as necessary to ensure a seamless transition. Researching the various facets of lane changes in autonomous vehicles allows for decision-making that is grounded in utility, safety, and tolerance. The implementation of a support vector machine (SVM) technique with Bayesian parameter optimization is used to deal with the non-linearity and complexity of the process of autonomous lane change decision-making. Finally, we compare the suggested SVM model against a rule-based lane change model using the test data. The SVM-based strategy is shown to improve lane change decision-making in a comprehensive simulation exercise, which in turn improves the safety and efficiency of autonomous driving systems. The experiment also use a real vehicle to gauge the efficacy of the underlying decision-making model

Vertical distribution of CH4 and N2O over the tropical site Hyderabad

    Get PDF
Vertical distribution profiles of N2O and CH4 have been measured from Hyderabad, India using a balloon-borne cryogenic air sampler. The samples have been analyzed using gas chromatographic techniques. Results for two balloon flights made in 1987 and 1990 show effects of tropical characteristics like higher tropopause and upwelling motion due to Hadley circulation. These profiles also exhibit perturbations around 25 km height, which are likely to be due to dynamical effects. A comparison with the SAMS data show that the SAMS values for both these gases are higher by a factor of about 1.5 to 2 around 30 km height

Impact of Dopants on the Electrical and Optical Properties of Hydroxyapatite

This chapter deals with the effect of alternating electrical current on hydroxyapatite [HAp, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2] and doped HAp along with their optical response and the processes involved. The dielectric constant, permittivity and ac conductivity were analyzed to have an insight into the surface charge polarization phenomenon. Further, the magnitude and the polarity of the surface charges, microstructure, and phases also play significant role in the cell proliferation and growth on the implants. Besides, the mechanism behind the electrical properties and the healing of bone fracture are discussed. The influence of various dopants on the optical properties of HAp viz., absorbance, transmission, band gaps and defects energy levels are analyzed along with the photoluminescence and excitation independent emission. In the future outlook, the analysis of effect of doping is summarized and its impact on the next generation biomaterials are elucidated
