Design of on-screen reading experiences based on a characterisation of techonological mediation

This study was carried out in a context in which there is a low presence of digital reading devices, starting from the premise that the use of electronic reading devices implies an instrumental relationship with a technical object that can be characterized as a mediation relationship. The thematic analysis of documented narratives, reading tests and interviews with an intentional sample of readers and editors, were used in the framework of this research, the objective was to explore the pertinence of characterizing the mediation relationships that readers of literature texts on screen establish with electronic devices through their experience. The findings indicate the need to lend support to the reader; this characterization is an important requirement for designing reading experiences. As a result, the mediation relations that readers establish with electronic devices are, in principle, in the first contact, of alterity. The readers observe the device as an otherness, an object with a certain autonomy, capable of arousing admiration.Este estudio se realizó en un contexto en el que hay una baja presencia de dispositivos de lectura digital, partiendo de la premisa de que el uso de dispositivos de lectura electrónica implica una relación instrumental con un objeto técnico que puede caracterizarse como una relación de mediación. En el marco de esta investigación se utilizó el análisis temático de narraciones documentadas, pruebas de lectura y entrevistas con una muestra intencional de lectores y editores, con el objetivo de explorar la pertinencia de caracterizar las relaciones de mediación que los lectores de textos de literatura en pantalla establecen con los dispositivos electrónicos a través de su experiencia. Las conclusiones indican la necesidad de prestar apoyo al lector; esta caracterización es un requisito importante para diseñar experiencias de lectura. Por consiguiente, las relaciones de mediación que los lectores establecen con los dispositivos electrónicos son, en principio, en el primer contacto, de alteridad. Experiencias sobre preservación digital para bibliotecas y archivos: dos casos de estudio en Colombia

This article addresses the problem of preservation of digital documents by means of the study of two representative cases: The first referred to production of digital origin, the second to digitization from printed material, such as the production of digital books of the Fundación Editorial Universidad Católica Luis Amigó and the digitization of the vertical archive of the Gilberto Martínez Library of the Casa del Teatro, of Medellín. From there, a thematic analysis that allowed approaching some general guidelines to guide those interested in the preservation of digital documents of a textual nature was made. The practices carried out by these organizations are exposed and the learning that derives from these experiences is taken into account. Among them are: The importance that preservation is also assumed by those who produce digital content and not only by institutions dedicated to file management; integrate preservation in institutional planning; select the material according to the importance of the documents; the convenience of hiring services from specialized companies; generate preservation and distribution files; keep copies in different physical media and store them in spatially separate places. To preserve digital production, the individual user must resort to different storage systems, especially cloud services and various physical media

El audiotexto, una forma de oralidad terciaria y una experiencia alternativa de lectura

Based on the research “The text-to-speech resource beyond assistance”, it is suggested that reading through voice synthesis applications entails a double relationship with the text: hearing and visual. This article proposes the term audiotextual reading, which is a textual format different from the traditional audiobook and it must be integrated into the category of tertiary orality. Finally, some research findings based on the perceptions of the audiences are considered. The term audioreaders is also suggested in this article. These insights contribute to the understanding of the conditions in which text-to-speech is used as an alternative form of reading experience

Este libro recoge conceptos y experiencias alrededor de la producción de libros digitales en Colombia. En gran parte se basa en la producción digital del grupo de investigación Urbanitas de la Universidad Católica Luis Amigó, pero también integra otros actores como El Sistema de Bibliotecas Públicas de Medellín, un ganador del Premio Crea Digital y experiencias de aula que hacen de esta obra un documento representativo para la comprensión del ecosistema de los libros digitales en los últimos años. La obra se divide en dos partes: conceptualización y experiencias. La primera parte enfoca los principales temas que se han planteado sobre la textualidad digital, y la segunda presenta cuatro experiencias, estrategias de creación, implementación y distribución de libros digitales en nuestro medio. En suma, este documento aspira a registrar un momento importante en la historia del libro digital en Colombia

Peces de la estrella fluvial inírida: ríos Guaviare, Inírida, Atabapo y Orinoco (Orinoquía colombiana)

Data derived from the literature supplemented with new collections made in the Inírida Fluvial Star (15th to 27th February 2008) reveal a species richness of 470 fishes species grouped in 224 genera, 40 families, and 10 orders. Its represents the higher species richness in the Orinoco River Basin. Orders with the largest numbers of species in the Star were Characiformes (237 species), Siluriformes (136 species), Perciformes (60 species), and Gymnotiformes (19 species), with the remaining 6 orders having from 1 to 7 species. At the family level, the Characidae has the greatest number of species (141 species), followed by the Cichlidae (55 species), Loricariidae (39 species), Pimelodidae (23 species), and Anostomidae (21 species); the remaining 35 families have 1 to 18 species. Present data indicate that 4 species are new records for the Orinoco River Basin and 19 are new for Colombia. The species richness by river was: 280 for the Inírida, 238 for Atabapo, 224 for Guaviare, and 82 for the Orinoco. In the Inírida Fluvial Star 335 species have commercial value as ornamentals, and 132 are harvested for food

Piedra, papel y pixel

This book gathers concepts and experiences around the production of digital books in Colombia. It is largely based on the digital production of the research group Urbanitas of the Universidad Católica Luis Amigó, but also integrates other actors such as El Sistema de Bibliotecas Públicas de Medellín, a winner of the Crea Digital Award, and classroom experiences that make this work a representative document for the understanding of the digital book ecosystem in recent years.   The work is divided into two parts: conceptualization and experiences. The first part focuses on the main issues that have been raised about digital textuality, and the second part presents four experiences, strategies of creation, implementation and distribution of digital books in our environment.   In short, this document aims to record an important moment in the history of the digital book in Colombia.  Este libro recoge conceptos y experiencias alrededor de la producción de libros digitales en Colombia.
